My first ever memory of RuneVillage was when I was being recommended to the guides when I was doing a quest. The RuneHQ guide was just too vague, so I tried RuneVillage’s and I was hooked. After lurking and trying to get the gist of the forum as being a 12 year old kid, I joined on May 28th, 2005. That day almost feels like my second birthday. I grew up here – you, me, and many others could say the same thing. With all the drama put aside, RuneVillage was like a second home. RuneVillage gave me a spark - I genuinely looked forward to waking up and seeing what the Aussie’s posted, I wanted to come home from school or practice as soon as possible to see what I had missed, and I loved playing the game I cherished with fellow friends.

I am guilty of not reading every post in the thread, but RuneVillage is dying (close to dead) and most are in agreement. We had some of our best memories on this forum and with this community, but that’s in the past. The spark that RuneVillage gave me and made this forum go isn’t there anymore. I am on this forum maybe every year? The game we loved isn’t what it is anymore and we grew up. There is something to say for keeping the site alive for archival purposes maybe.

It hit me way down in the feels going through my old Goals & Achievements blog. I have actually lost most of those pictures when my old computer burnt out on me. Always back-up your files kids. I couldn’t even tell you where my account is now. I started playing again a few years ago and got hacked. I lost everything – my hundreds of millions that I spent my teenage life getting. I was devastated – pretty much the same devestation that I felt when my Yu-Gi-Oh deck got stolen (both times were utterly devastating). I don’t know where my account is now. I could try and get it back – but it might be best to just leave it. Like this forum.

But most of all – I want to thank so many of you. I had friends in real life, I had friends on my sports teams, but my friends on RuneScape and RuneVillage were different. I go back through my posts and laugh – there was only one place I could run around with my friends and act like complete idiots calling each other noobs and adding -zor to the end of everything. Then on a completely different note, go to the Media Mansion and debate on end about how great the mediocre Wisconsin Badger basketball team was with Applequest. Then go into the Legend’s forum and make wafer/biscuit/cracker signature month and act like complete fools there.

I just wanted to share some of my best memories here because I can and because it makes me happy to reminisce about the times I had here. I used to procrastinate my Honor’s Algebra homework in 7th grade here, so now I might as well procrastinate my full-time job here as well.
My teenager-self loved RuneVillage and wanted nothing more to be the ideal villager. I would obsess about not breaking the cardinal sin of double posting, having the perfect signature and avatar, getting the custom title, and having a high post count. I loved making and writing quest guides. My personal favorite was the Swan Song quest and I still remember doing that one to this day. After writing many of the guides with A5chow – I finally got something that I had always wanted. I logged on one summer morning to a “New Legends and Staff” sticky by A5chow herself. Then under the Legends category, there was my name. I don’t think there was a happier 14 year old in the world at that point. My name was yellow. It was perfect.

There were so many other great memories though – the pictures buried somewhere on imageshack.us or on my photobucket account. The day Lisa/Dimak1/Link Trigger, Damon55/Tucker, and I got our D-Chain from the KQ and sold it for 30 million. The endless summer days at Dagganoth Kings with Alex, Gobberflop, Lisa, Brad, Wes, and whoever else we dragged down there. My endless nights of Barrows using Rarius’ perfected guide and optimal kill count of 13. The job of bringing lower level villagers on their first God Wars trips. The race to be the first to post the Runescape update to the General Discussion forum. It all seems like a blur at this point. One great blur.

So I apologize in advance if your name isn’t here, I’m an engineer – I forget things that aren’t like math, I would love to hear from you too. But thank you to:

Hiker, Henner, Glode, Jackstick, Frogger and everyone else behind the development and administration of this site. You’ve done more for this community than you could possibly imagine.

Ozzie Bond, Rune Richie, Boa, Bartoron, Tom/fusionx2004, Dr. Henry, blackmage, Tucker/Damon55, Donut Juice, Jimmybe and Ranger, Don Toboy, 123king, Janrok, Jaron, Pkingyou/Nick, Tal, Pureshalazor/Willow Guy, Doodlepieguy, Muscular Ape, Stalesoul, Gobberhop/Gobberflop, CAM and I could go on…

If you end up reading this, send me a message on reddit, kmjhawk is my account name. Maybe we can be in email contact and can catch up. I completely overlooked facebook - but feel free to find me there - James Rosenberger. If I ever meet one of you, I can promise you the first beer will be on me!

Cheers and thanks for the memories!

As far as goodbyes go, this is one of the best ones I've seen.

I've always regarded you quite highly and as a lot of fun to be around, Kmj. It's been a pleasure.

tl;dr :smooth:

To be honest it has been a long time since the active Runescape days and I've forgotten most of the people I used to talk to. Rather, I've forgotten how many of them I used to talk to and who they were exactly (individually, I mean). Hell, there a bunch of people in your post I completely forgot existed. So much has happened in my life since then that sadly a lot of it is gone from the memory banks. Of course, what didn't help is many years ago I purposefully yet perhaps regretfully severed pretty much all ties with RV and its community during one of my many phases.

My point being is sometimes I feel bad when I get these types of mentions because I'd struggle big time to make a list of my own and I'd probably forget twenty odd people even after I'd finished. That's not to say I don't remember you at all, of course. I remember you were a long stay on my RS Friends list. I have a vague recollection of you coming to some of my 99 parties, too!

The good news is I haven't lost any of my RS screenshots, so some memories will always be there. Excuse the French, but I have Fuzzy Bunny shitloads of them still actually, from 2003 - 2010.

Anyway, good post, and good to see you pop your head in. Good luck in life.

Good man, we had some great times. If there is a constant in this world it is Arizona and Wisconsin basketball (in that order :P). Best of luck going forward. I don't have a reddit account but add me on Facebook if you have one. That goes for all villagers who I'm not already friends with. Allen Sipe.

I've only ever seen a handful of your posts. But its still sad to think of the things we once loved, and how they have changed so much. And in your case, how they have been taken. Sorry about your account. If that happened to me, i'd be crushed.

Best of luck in the future!

I told you guys that I would miss people. :^_^: I'll miss you too!! Even if you were a noob.

Jaron, Market - Thank you!!

Apple - En route. And agree to disagree. :)

Ape - I'm sure in one of the pictures has Bart and I congratulating "Apeh". Ha.

Henryyyyy - And there are just so many more I know I missed. Which is unfortunate, but I know I got at least 50%. Haha.

Apple made a good point. I hadn't though of facebook. So I updated the post and you can find me if you wish. My name is James Rosenberger and I attend the University of Wisconsin Madison. That should be sufficient. Currently my picture is at Yosemite.

Hey, nice to hear from you again dude ;)

RV is much like second family to all of us. Our join dates are like second birthdays (You always need to make a post in lumby lounge even if it is late :P ) and the site has helped condition us into the adults we are today. Every RVer owes a lot to this site, and for many of us, that debt will never be repaid.

It's been a good ride, but as with any rides, it has to end sometime.

As sad as these posts are, they always make me smile from the nostalgia. Such great times. I still remember doing God Wars with you a few times. Pretty sure I was terrible, but it was fun. :P

Wish you the best man, I'll have to poke you on reddit sometime.

Well made post, I think you summed up what we all feel about runevillage, and about memories. i wish i would have taken 10x more screen shots lol.

It may just be because life is so new and wonderful when you are a kid, but runevillage and runescape will always be in my heart.

One of the better goodbye posts in recent memory.

I feel as if it pretty accurately sums up exactly how I (and so many others) feel these years later.

Good luck in life my old friend.

Just now stumbling on this. I think it's something we all feel, and it's hard to let go of this place. It's like saying goodbye to a part of all of our formative years, especially as the first people in history to grow up with developing these complex relationships with people over the internet. I wish we could all stay in touch as this site fades.
