Yesterday I had orthognathic surgery (Lefort 1 osteotomy, to be exact), for which the recovery process is long, painful, and painful. I'm drooling a lot, and I'll be on a liquid diet for the next six weeks. That's the nasty reality of it.

I'm taking a week off work, but now I'm beginning to think that I really should have asked for two weeks.

I'll still try to be active around the site and in chat, but anything maintenance/admin related will have to be delayed until whenever the heck I feel like it, unless it's a downtime or a serious emergency.


So yeah.

I hope things start getting better for you quickly, Jackstick. Make sure you take it easy. Play some video games maybe?

What kind of foods do you have lined up? Do you have a restriction on using a straw? As a young kid I used to swallow fried rice without chewing it, perhaps that's something you could do as well for certain foods.

Chicken noodle soup (blended), tomato soup, pudding, yogurt, apple sauce, chocolate milk, and water. Protein and water are the most important nutrients in the healing process.

I'm allowed to use a straw, but it's really difficult. I can't purse my lips very well because my top lip is about 3x bigger than normal and it is 100% numb. And when I use a straw I can actually feel my top jaw (and basically my whole mid-face) shifting back and forth. Its such a strange feeling it makes me nauseous, so I'm gonna try to avoid using a straw for at least a couple more weeks.

Well it's been a week, and the swelling has really gone down. My ortho and oral surgeon are really surprised at how fast I'm recovering!

Several areas of my face are still numb, and I've still got some noticeable swelling, but the pain is finally becoming manageable. It was a unbearable just a few days ago. Constant headaches, congestion, restless sleep, DRYYYYYYY mouth, and a terrible hangover-like feeling every damn time I woke up (which would happen at least a couple times during the night; I was lucky if I got anything more than 2 hours of sleep at a time).

If any of you are suffering from dry mouth, use Biotene Oral Rinse!! That stuff works. Use it like 5 times a day. If we ever bring ads back on RV, they're going to be Biotene ads.


I love pizza, but I've been trying to avoid it ever since I got my braces put on last year. Eating pizza while you have braces in is a mess. You end up with half of it in your stomach, and half of it still stuck in your braces.


I get them off in about 4-6 months though.
