On this day, 9 years ago, ThePub was created.

I'm no good at eulogies, so i'll keep it short.

RV and ThePub has been, and still is, a great place and an awesome community. We've had ups, we've had downs (maybe more downs than ups in the past few months) but there's still people here trying to keep the spirit of RV alive. RV as a community has stayed strong for the last 9 years, and i'm sure it will stay strong for the next 9 years.

I'd say this is time for cutting lies cakes, rather than lamenting current down trends in activity.

I think a contributing factor was small administrative movement + strong resistance to change by the staff. Everyone was too comfortable with how everything was, so nothing was done to grow with the changing atmosphere of the internet. So here we stand, stuck in a timeless vaccuum of living history - this is why it has been mentioned that we 'can not compete with other sites'. It's simply a matter of us never having changed anything to match the times and now we're scrambling to catch up and find a way of introducing ourselves into a nonexclusive arena where casual visitors as well as gamers can feel welcome.

I blame it on being too comfortable for too long with where we stand. Now it just seems a crack formed in our vaccuum and we're seeing the reality of our little village.

Reminds me of The Giver.

Yet, atleast even through this, there are still members who are very actively trying to keep the site alive and do everything in their power to increase the overall activity. The biggest factor in making things happen is the will and drive to get off your ass and do it. Yes I'm targetting the ones who see posts, but don't care enough to respond to the post.
