Who here is a fan of the Floyd?

They are EASILY my favourite band... when I first heard The Dark Side of the Moon, that completely transformed my conceptions of music, and is still my favourite album today. Following my discovery of it last summer, I explored The Wall, Animals, and Wish You Were Here, the quintessential albums basically. Love every one of them.

After that I was unsure of where to go, I picked up The Division Bell next... and while it certainly wasn't 'bad', it failed to stick out to me. Then I listened to The Final Cut, as it was the last of the Waters-led albums, and that... that was bad. It's far too... I dunno, it's just a lot of Waters whining, and while that worked to extraordinary effect on The Wall... by losing Wright and cutting out the rest of the band, it just did not work here.

Then I listened to Meddle, and that was another great album. San Tropez is just so deliciously relaxing.

Today I listened to Atom Heart Mother, and aside from the title track which is an interesting track of exploration that I genuinely enjoyed, the rest of the album just feels like... Meddle gone wrong.

Next up on my list is The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, in my further quest to explore my absolutely favourite band's roots.

You should check out Anathema if you like Floyd. They've done a fair few covers that are awesome.

But yeah, Floyd are sweeet.

Picked up Dark Side, Wish you Were Here, and The Wall awhile back. Haven't really had the money to get new albums recently. Good stuff though.

I suggest going for Animals next, and then Meddle. If you like those three you've listened to, you won't be disappointed.

I've really never listened to them before. They're on my list of "Bands I've Always Heard of but Never Actually Tried Out."

I'll give them a spin sometime soon :)

I recommend starting with The Dark Side of the Moon. The whole album, in one sitting, start to finish. That's how I fell in love.

Ive never really been a big fan. But Ill temper that statement by recognizing the brilliance of Dark Side, and that Wish You Were Here is my favorite song of all time. So ya, not too shabby. :P

If you like Wish You Were Here, you might like a few of the songs on Meddle. I find they're sort of in a similar style to that song. Namely Fearless.

The Final Cut is yeah, pretty bad as a standalone album. Insert it into the proper places in The Wall and it fits much better.

Ummagumma is a lot like Atom Heart Mother, so you might want to hold off listening to that one for a bit. Same thing with A Momentary Lapse of Reason being like The Division Bell. Decent album, not as their best, but still worth a listen.

A Saucerful of Secrets is pretty good, I'd say go for that after listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Obscured by Clouds is very good as well. I'm not sure where it fits in comparison to other albums, but definitely a fantastic album.

I listened to the Piper at the Gates of Dawn..... Barrett's voice reminds me of the Beatles... and it really didn't feel like a Pink Floyd album XD

Not sure if I like it yet, need to give it another listen.
