Avatar is going to win like 5 Oscars...

But I'll be PO'ed if Up doesn't win best animated film. ;)

I don't know who I'd rather see annoyed - the Avatar fanboys if it loses or the cineastes if Avatar wins. 10 nominees for BP is far too many though. It doesn't help that the first year for the expanded category was a fairly terrible year for movies.

I agree, ten nominees for Best Picture is way too many--combined with the weak year you mention, this is just an abomination. I mean, The Blind Side? Seriously? It was a feel good movie, and pretty decent, but worth of a best picture nod? Nah.

I liked Avatar, and it'd be great to see a Sci-Fi movie win a major award for once, but I don't think it deserves best picture. I'm rooting for Up and Precious to do well in any category.

Hurt Locker or District 9. Because I didn't like Avatar.
Also, Christoph Waltz should win Supporting Actor for Inglourious Basterds. He was the absolute best thing about that movie.

And what the hell is this 'Precious: Based on the Novel...' thing? Just the title, posters, and premise sound Fuzzy Bunny stupid. Do we really need to know (in the TITLE) what novel the movie is based off of, and who wrote it? Who the hell is named Sapphire anyway?

Yeah, he was great. BJ Novak wasn't too shabby either, but that's totally bias on my part. :P

Couldn't agree more. "Based on a true story" is usually extraneous enough, but at least you can say, "Oh, at least it has to be somewhat truthful" I couldn't care less if it was based on a novel or an old story your grandmother told you. It's a waste of text made for the credits.

I'm hoping Avatar and Up win, they're really the only stand-outs for me. Avatar was terrific and Up was animated eye candy with a charming storyline. District 9 didn't impress me all too much (hype) and I've been meaning to see The Hurt Locker.

I hope Inglourious Basterds slays Dances with Smurfs Avatar. It is the better film, after all.

Thank God Avatar didn't get nominated for Best Original Screenplay. That would have annoyed me to no end.

James Cameron doesn't need awards for Avatar.

He made 2 (technically 1.7 if you count movie budget) Billion dollars off it. If that isn't award enough, I don't know what is.

For the first time, I'm actually torn in the Animated Feature category. I've seen all of the movies nominated, and they are all fantastic in their own right (except Coraline, that movie was rather subpar). I actually really hope that Fantastic Mr. Fox or The Secret of Kells wins. Up was fantastic, and I loved it, but the former two movies were mind-blowing.

Other than that, I'm rooting for Avatar in all the visual categories and the Basterds in all the other categories.

Also, Up for Best Original Score.

I just think it's awesome that Up got a best picture nod. Pixar said in interviews that seeing Wall-E taken off the best picture list last year was pretty saddening, and that their goal was to get Up on that list. They probably won't get best animated (haven't seen Fantastic Mr. Fox, but from what I heard, it'll sweep it), but I expect them to get best screenplay.

Inglourious Basterds deserves something, but I doubt they'll get it (except Christopher Waltz). I'm a huge fan of that movie.

As for Avatar, I haven't seen it, don't care to, and I hope it doesn't sweep everything. I get that it was a good movie, but from everything my friends have told me, it's not a particularly original one in any way shape or form. I can see art direction awards, but not much else. Then again, I haven't seen it, so I shouldn't be talking.

James Cameron is the biggest jerk ever. Avatar and Titanic are number 1 and number 2 as the highest grossing films of all time. This guys made like $5Billion from his movies. He can go die now.

I thought District 9 was the best movie of the year so... That should win I guess. Meh.

Why so much hate for James Cameron? Both of those films were thoroughly enjoyable, if not entirely original. Also, change one word in your statement and you get something totally different.

I saw Avatar. Impressive visuals - not deserving of Best Picture.

I'd say Up in the air deserves something, with it's witty humor and all.

Regarding Avatar, everyone seemed to be more impressed with the bloody eye candy instead of the plot, heck, that's what the adverts were pretty much saying as well. I didn't see it, didn't want to see it, and my good irl friend said he wasn't really impressed with it.

Glad Waltz won, he was awesome.

I don't mind Hurt Locker winning either, I loved it. Best Director probably should've gone to Cameron even though Avatar was subpar in the writing/story department.
