Well, I can't seem to find a topic that was discussing this but I guess it disappeared because of the roll back.

I haven't seen it yet but so far the reviews for it are really great. Apparently it's all new 3D technology so it will be different from your typical 3D movie experience. Will be watching it on Tuesday (bought tickets in advance).

Has anyone watched it so far? Is it living up to its hype?

When people talk about 3D in movies I'm always confused

Are they referring to the fact that it's animated in 3D, or that you have the glasses that actually make it seem like there's a third dimension?

I'm hopefully seeing it pretty soon with my friends.
Hope it can live up to the hype.

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

Saw it in IMAX-3D at the midnight release. Was awesome and exceeded my expectations greatly, although I had pretty low expectations to begin with. Was visually stunning, especially the planet they were visiting. The planet was beautiful.

Saw it about an hour ago and my god it was amazing. Some of the most spectacular visuals I have ever seen from a movie, and it had a good story.

was I the only one who really hated that Army guy by the end of the movie?

I saw it, it was very good. To say the effects were some of the most spectacular youve seen is an understatement. It was far and away THE most spectacular. They alone were worth the price of admission. Additionally the concept was also an A+. Where it falls off was the fact that the story was a bit cliched, the characters were a bit hollow, and the dialogue was a bit cheesy. But really those last 3 dont detract too much from the movie. It was still extremely entertaining and engaging. And despite the long run-time, I was never looking at my watch. 9/10 for me.

I haven't seen it, but the fact that they called it "Avatar" ruins the chance of a movie adaptation for a certain TV series by the same name. :(

I may see it, I've only heard positive about it. I want to see Sherlock Holmes and It's Complicated more, though. I'll definitely end up seeing it in theatres eventually, however. Somehow, I have to.

the best film of the year for me, despite the easy "save the forest" backbone story, there was MANY more storys, the graphics are visionally stunning, the characters are so ingenious, and the 3D version well bring it to life.
i think its a MUST!!! see to the cinema, which is suprising cause for me i thought nothing could top transformers 2, which in its own was epic for me.

I saw in in 3D yesterday but IMAX was sold out so I didn't get to see it with the cool screen. Besides that it was still the best movie I have ever seen in my entire life. I liked it that much. For me it's all about the visuals and effects and it was stunning.

Lol, just saw this today and this pretty much sums it up for me.

Let's just say it was the best version of Pocahontas I've ever seen.

It's still being made by M Night Shyamalan, unfortunately lol. I saw a teaser trailer for it ages ago, it looked terrible.

If even people who aren't familiar with cgi are impressed by the effects, then you know it's something spectacular.

I watched it today, and just thinking about all the work that went into something like this makes my head go boom.
Story line wasn't the most original one out there, but it's definitely a movie that everyone should see.

This movie was AWESOME! Especially in 3D. A lot of my friends were complaining about a weak plot line, but good action scenes, but I disagree. It really shows human nature and their desire to take what we want, without thinking things through. This is also very representative of what the white people did to the Native Americans a hundred and fifty years ago.

It's not weak, just overused and predictable.

Quoted for truth. The film, without a doubt, is amazing considering the visuals, and, without a doubt, the execution of the plot was well done. However, I felt like I've seen the basic plot many times before (Dances with Wolves and The Last Samurai).

Science fiction films that should get more of a nod than Avatar are District 9 by Neill Blomkamp and Moon by Duncan Jones.
