So i saw this movie friday night, and i thought it was decent...it felt more like the original then the last 2...i did miss davy jones and the flying dutchman though...and it was weird not seeing all of the cast from the last 3

Hidden:
-I dont fully understand WHY the spanish were really in this movie...they served no real purpose...the fight at the end with them wasnt really necesssary to me...

-Blackbeard wasnt nearly as ruthless as i expected...davy jones was a FAR superior villain...i mean he turned his back on barbossa...what happened with him was so predictable.... "The one legged man will kill him" ya...there was only 1 legged man in the movie...

-No black pearl..what in the hell is this? how could they not include the pearl? i was hoping jack woulda taken the little bottle and let it out or something in the middle of the movie...a showdown between the pearl and the queen annes revenge...

-No ship battles..not a one...lame

-The fight between the 2 "jacks" reminded me a LOT of the first fight between will and jack in curse..just..worse

I want there to be another one..just cuz...the pearl shouldnt be in a bottle..they could have a DECENT story about that...

Oh..was i the only one who saw the flying dutchman in one of the bottles? i know it wouldnt make sense...but i coulda sworn i saw it...i woulda killed for a pause and rewind.

I saw this as well at an early show on Friday. I liked it, but was glad I hadn't paid to see it (the girlfriend treated me). It was quite pirate-ey, and jack sparrow-ey with all his nonsensical escapes and turns of phrase...but it lacked the other two key cast members.

I didn't enjoy barbossa in this movie at all. A member of the royal navy? What the hell?

I have to agree that Davy Jones was a far better villain than Blackbeard...hell, Lord Beckett was a better villain than them all, IMO.

By the way, the Spanish were in the movie simply to chase after the fountain of youth. It did seem pointless, but the English needed someone to compete against and historically, the Spanish constantly battling them for land and exploring prestige isn't far off at all.

I also expected them to unleash the pearl during this movie...I'm disappointed that they're dragging this out.

The best part of this movie, as usual, was Johnny Depp. Everything else was "meh".

I heard it was a good stand-alone film like the first. I'd really like to see something other than the obnoxious spectacle that was the last two films, so I might go see this some time.

-Ya barbossa was iffy until towards the end of the movie...i dont understand how he was a privateer on a mission for the king in the other movies...i mean he was captain of the pearl for what? 10 years? and was undead...and then dead....and then brought back and helped SAVE the pirates from the navy...it doesnt make sense to me....

-And beckett was just the guy you were supposed to hate..he was just a pure villain..so in that sense yes he was the best, there was no pity towards his character like there was for barbossa in the first one...and definitely for jones in 2 and 3.. both of them were better characters to me because they had a story as to what drove them to being the bad guy... beckett was just some Fuzzy Bunny..and was damn good at it

-Blackbeard was blackbeard...you only know he was feared because of how the characters acted..they didnt really give him much backstory..you had to know who he was going into the movie....he only really showed his ruthlessness when he first made an appearance..after that he was just kinda..lame...you knew what hed do..what would happen to him...

I really enjoyed On Stranger Tides. The plot was easy to follow, and the cast was quite enjoyable. I would say that it is as good as the first movie.

I saw it and got my ticket for half price too which lessened any negatives I felt about the film slightly.

The only parts I really didn't like was the change in Barbosas character and the little side-plot relationship between the Priest and the Mermaid

Honestly this is just a start to an entirely new trilogy. The movie was brilliant as far as story-telling went with plenty of plot twists to keep on the edge of your seat.
Just because a movie doesn't have a billions dollars in CG effects doesn't mean it's not good :?:

I saw this last Friday. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What really shook me a bit is Barbosa becomes part of the British Navy. But all in all, I loved the movie. The ending was spectacular. (I laughed a bit at Penelope yelling at Jack in rapid Spanish.) I also hear that they will make a 5th and 6th movie, but with Barbosa as the new Blackbeard, they should be fun.

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

I agree. They built him up as such a horrible, evil person... but he's kind of lazy at being evil (if that makes sense), and doesn't really seem to know how evil he's supposed to be. Everyone around him is like "OMG BLACKBEARD HE'S SO EVIL OMFGGG" and he's just like "Hmm? Oh right, yeah... I'm evil, etc."

I was actually disappointed with this movie. All of you made me feel like it could be a very good movie going into it and I got my hopes up too high.

Hidden:
Critical errors: subplot of priest and mermaid, Blackbeard being unaware of his evilness, overdeveloped Barbossa plot and character development. Other than that it was alright, but dang if those things didn't kind of ruin it for me.

And I was so hoping for another good trilogy completely unrelated to the first three. ;-;

I kind of liked the sub plot between the missionary and mermiad. I thought it was kind of sweet. Also, the mermaids were so awesome in the film! They're no "Little Mermaid" types, that's for sure!

If they do make a 5th and 6th one (which is most likely, depending how well this one does) I will probably most likely see it. I like this franchise so much. xD

Just saw it today in 3D. It was good. Good action with the sword fights some funny parts. Was like WFT Barbosa in the Royal Navy?! Not seeing the Pearl but hearing the story about what happened to it. I like that Blackbeard had Magic. The mermaids were Crazy! Nice way how to get to the Fountain. Sad missed Will & Elizabeth :(

Well, first of all, he wasn't a Priest, he was simply a missionary. A Priest is ordained, while a missionary is just a lay-person who decides he wants to spread the word of God. And what was to hate about their relationship? I thought it was a good sub-plot that added depth to the story a bit, while also leaving things open for the next movie.

And this was relatively unrelated to the first three. Some of the characters are the same, of course, but it differs greatly.
