Okay a couple of my friends have asked for some music. One, M, is looking for some rave music, house, techno, trance, anything lively with a lot of euphoria, and long mixes are even better as they want a 3-5 hour driving mix. My other friend, L, isn't a big fan of heavy music and is looking for something more calm, mellow, and maybe even a bit psychedelic, along the lines of Sphongle, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc, they don't want any mixes but the more songs/artists the better since they're off on a day trip with M and want something to put on their MP3 player for the trip.

Any suggestions for either or both of my friends? I didn't have much to suggest them since most of the music I suggested is stuff they already listen to.

Tell them to get some Aphex Twin. The "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" album is a great place to start and should be a good compromise between L and M's different tastes.

For Friend L you could suggest Donovan, Syd Barrett's solo album (since he's into Pink Floyd he should enjoy this), the Zombies, some Byrds albums (Fifth Dimension and Younger than Yesterday are the closest to psych albums). It's not anywhere near psychedelic, but he might like some Kinks album if he's on a car trip (nothing much else to do but listen closely to lyrics). I'll second Apple's suggestion as well.

Good suggestions guys. Also, raottu, I almost forgot about Aphex Twin, I'll mention that to them. L is a huge fan of the Byrds but I haven't heard him listen to them in a while so I'll mention them as well as your other suggestions too.

I'll mention Traffic too :P

Just to add, I got a few artists/genres they both like:

M:
Trance
Techno
House
Drum & Bass
Liquid Funk (also known as Liquid Drum & Bass)
Psytrance
Dj Tiesto
Cygnus X
GiGi D'Agostino
Paul Oakenfold
Tomaz & Filterheadz
ATB
Delerium
Pendulum
Black Sun Empire
Pzylo
Infected Mushroom
Deadmau5

L:
Rock
Psychedelic
Trip Hop (e.g. Kid Cudi)
Ambient
Psytrance
The Beatles
The Byrds
Pink Floyd
Grateful Dead
Sublime
Oasis
Bob Marley
Sphongle
Entheogenic
Possibly also Aphex Twin, I'll ask

Linked him to them and he definitely likes them and will be adding them to his playlist for the trip.
