Saw it last week, was shocked that nobody started a thread on it.

It was pretty amazing in the artistic department, and I thought the acting was great all around (for once though, I don't think Depp was suited to a "crazy guy" role).

Alice totally caused the Opium Wars.

Depp and Fry were the best for me, not a bad adaptation of the books, not amazing though.

Didn't care for it. Leave it to Burton to take a place that's supposed to be colorful and full of magic and turn it into another dark, dank, emo-loving piece of nonsense.

I did see it in IMAX, though. That was cool.

I saw it in 3D, it was the best, the story revolves around drug abuse, mainly Opium and LSD. I thought there was some good acting, but the Mad Hatter wasn't mad enough for me ( he needed to be more obsessed with tea ), i loved the Chesire cat ( He's my favourite ). The Red Queen was such a Gangster, killing everyone.

Trippiest movie ever. The first 20 minutes we all kept cracking up at every random thing that happened.

Cheshire cat was funny.

I also found it funny when we all simultaneously realized that the blue caterpillar smoking weed was voiced by Hans Gruber.

The Chesire cat has always been my favourite character in all versions of this story.

It's a hookah, but okay. And yeah, I lol'd at that too.

I was impressed by the Jabberwocky references in the beginning and the way it began. I thought they did very well establishing the film and keeping the trippy yet simultaneously intriguing storyline going for that first half, but I felt that the plot fell apart when the Mad Hatter reminisced about the destruction of Wonderland. There was too much focus on the graphic but not enough on making the storyline rich enough to follow. The writing and script was the worst part. There could have been so many cooler Lewis Carroll and original Alice and Wonderland references, but I felt that they didn't go all the way with the film.

A really good example is the checkerboard scene during the fight. I was totally expecting a really sweet, chess-match style battle, like in Harry Potter 1 except more badass, so I was pretty bummed out when it was only the Jabberwocky vs. Alice. Another example is the whole Knave of Hearts part. The part where his eyepatch turned black when he was out doing the Queen's bidding was a nice touch, but I still feel like they could've done so much.

Tim Burton went far enough to make it intriguing, but he left it at that awkward intermediary where you either go for it entirely or you pull back a bit, making the film not as fun as it could have been.

Well, Alan Rickman sounded stoned and the whole movie is an allegory for drug use anyway, so...

Sorta, I wouldn't doubt that you could interpret it that way. I don't know Carroll's literature well enough to make a call on what his book was actually talking about.

The books had nothing to do with drugs (or at least the first; not too familiar with the second). He told the first story to a little girl named Alice and her sister that he was taking on a boat ride, and transcribed it later at Alice's urging.

On the topic of Burton, he didn't write it, someone else did. I agree entirely on the writing being crap though.

I stopped caring for Tim Burton when this Burton/Depp/Bonham-Carter love triangle started. Burton needs to start giving other actors a chance. Depp isn't even that good.

You know what, I'll second that as well. Depp almost seemed cocky as the Mad Hatter. It wasn't the strength that he gave in the first Pirates movie, which I thought he did quite well in.

I agree completely with this. They've always kept that team up and it seems to be quite popular now. But, it'll go out of fashion in due time, you know? They'll get tired of the same actors over and over and over again.

That love triangle is mostly between Burton and Depp, no? Bonham-Carter came into it a few years ago, right? I don't know. But, all in all, :lmao: at the comment.

The triangle won't end anytime soon. Bonham-Carter is his wife.

I want there to be a film were The Terminator, Pedobear, Alien, Predator , Techno-viking and Chuck Norris fight, and there is random laser battles in the background, with Metallica playing all the way through it and at the final scene Miley Cyrus and Paris Hilton fight to the death, Tim Burton kills them both. Bonham-Carter being Miley Cyrus and J Depp being Paris Hilton, but he doesn't realise who they are until after he's killed them, then right at the end of it he's crying in the rain, and then you see The Terminator sitting on a chair saying something random like 'We're all special in our own way' then Techno-viking blows his head of and says 'He won't be back'.

Saw it after being wary, and childishly upset that the Cheshire Cat wasn't purple and pink. (The only element from Disney I really missed.)
Loved it. :D And loved it enough to see it again, in 3D.

Definitely fun to see. ^_^
