Kanon is written by the same guy who wrote Clannad (Jun Maeda), but it's kind of stupid and not nearly as awesome. Like if Clannad is a good piece of chocolate in a box, Kanon would be the weird one with purple stuff in it and you're not sure if you want to keep eating, but you do anyway because it kind of has a good aftertaste.

AIR is also written by Jun Maeda. I'm only halfway through it (it's the only one on my lists that I haven't fully completed), and I've almost dropped it because it's ridiculously boring. But it might get good later on. I dunno, Pyro can shed some more light on that. I'll probably finish it this weekend.

You didn't directly mention them, but I removed Paprika and Akira because I know you've seen those, and the Evangelion movies because if you've watched the series then you've probably watched the movies too. Despite being kind of low on the list, Metropolis is definitely worth watching. Hōkago no Pleiades is basically 30-minutes of why-the-hell-am-I-watching-this, but it's kind of fun.

Definitely watch Summer Wars and Black★Rock Shooter if you haven't already.

Clannad (Movie), however, sucks.

It took long enough making my list as is. Make a post from my list and remove what you've seen and I'll give you a short rating at the end of each one.



Kanon is good but it really is the exact same as Clannad. I have a slight suspicion that people are going to like whichever one they see first more and find the other one stale. But I know for certain that After Story beats Kanon by miles.

AIR is terrible. If you want to enjoy the stories in AIR then play the visual novel. I will warn that the visual novel is an adult game, but I can't recommend AIR's anime for any other reason than it gets blogged about often and other things seem to reference it occasionally.

I liked the Clannad movie. I felt it really paled in comparison to the series, but I still enjoyed it. No one else here seems to agree with me that it was still good, but everyone here also watched it AFTER the series. I watched it between the two seasons and really enjoyed it.

.Hack//Signs - Player is trapped inside of an MMO. Has one of the best soundtracks ever. 5/5 and can be watched dubbed.

.Hack//Legend of the Twilight - succesor to above. There's another one but I couldn't remember the title and never ended up watching it.

AIR - Play the game. The anime isn't bad necessarily but it wasn't really enjoyable either.

Baka to Test to Shoukanju - Idiots and tests and summoning things. People are put into class according to their grades. Their latest test scores become the power of their familiar. It's like

Yu-gi-oh GX but focuses more on humor than battles. I loved this show and it was only 13 episodes. Watch it.

Black★Rock Shooter - OVA It's hard to really explain. It's just 50 minutes long as I recall. Give it a go some night.

Blue Gender - Guy is cryogenically frozen until a cure is found for his disease in the future. He ends up being awoken in a future that involves giant insect aliens attacking his planet instead.

Bokurano - Group of children are tricked into becoming pilots for a large mecha and must fight to protect their home. This is an AMAZING series and I was really wanting more in the end. Only issue is that it has a couple slow moments but it really is great.

Canaan - Another great show. This one is extremely hard to explain as well. It's good and it keeps a mostly realistic setting as well. I guess all I can really say about this show is... SUGOI

Case Closed (considering it this since I never watched the Japanese episodes.) - Look up Detective Conan. Case Closed was the localized version that got canceled in the states. Detective Conan went on for much longer. A student is turned into a child by some drug and solves murder mysteries.

Darker Than Black - Contractors use abilities for missions or self gratification. Their powers have a cost, though. Some contractors have simple harmless prices to pay. Other contractors inflict damage to themselves after.

Darker Than Black - Gaiden - short side story OVA series. I'm not sure if it aired after or before Gemini of the Meteor but I know it takes place before it.

Darker Than Black - Gemini of the Meteor - Same as Darker Than Black but this one has a new cast of characters and a more centralized story. Darker Than Black has a new story arc every two episodes. Gemini of the Meteor is one continuous arc.

Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya - Haruhi movie. Watch after Season 2 of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Escaflowne - I don't remember anything about this anime other than giant robot, guy with wings, years of yaoi fangirls obsessing over it later.

Eureka 7 - I think the Japanese version is called Air Gear or something. People surf on air and fight with giant mechs. Not the greatest thing in the world but it was ok for there not being anything else on TV at the time.

Evangelion 1.11 - Blu-ray redo of Neon Genesis Evangelion

Evangelion 2.22 - See above. There are two more parts on the way.

G-Gundam - OH GOD WATCH THIS IT'S SO TERRIBLE YET SO GOOD YET SO BAD YET SO AWESOME. Each country has a representative fight in a tournament using a Gundam. The winner becomes the ruler of the world until the next tournament.

Goku Sayounara Zetsubou Sensei - See Sayounara Zetsubou Sensei below

Gundam SD - chibi gundams. avoid.

Gundam Wing Endless Waltz - Movie based on Gundam Wing. Should probably watch Gundam Wing first.

Hamtaro - Was a show on toonami about cute little hamsters. There was seriously nothing else on. I'd watch it while playing RuneScape. You don't need to watch this.

Highschool of the Dead - Zombies take over the world. Some highschoolers have to survive and find shelter. You might be better off reading the manga. I don't think this one is getting a second season.

Hōkago no Pleiades - The makers of Gurren Lagann and Neon Genesis Evangelion BRING YOUUUUUUU --- a car advertisement in anime form. They were 5 minute long episodes that were uploaded to the internet. It's only about 25 minutes total.

Inuyasha - avoid avoid avoid avoid avoid. This show drags on forever and is mostly filler. Sadly the filler tended to be better than the canon plot.

Kanon - Same people as Clannad. Watch this. It's a great show. The only issue is it almost feels just like Clannad. On the other hand it's just about as good. Jack only hated the first half because he didn't like the character it focused on.

Kara no Kyoukai (The Garden of Sinners) - 5 movies technically. They're all different and I'm still confused BUT IT'S REALLY GOOD STUFF.

Kikaider - I'm not even sure if I should recommend this or not. It was neat, though. It's practically a less childish megaman series.

K-ON! - Highschool girls in a music club. It's really good I swear. There's just no cool way to describe it. It's honestly one of my favorite series and I look forward to the movie.

K-ON!! - See above. I cried a little when it ended. I wish there was more.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes - It's like Naruto if the show focused on Sasuke. It was really good around the middle but since they didn't get a second season they animated the final fight from the manga (I think that's what they did... it was really random and seemed pretty final) and then gave it some open end. It was pretty good before that, though.

Lucky Star - Seinfeld the anime as told by highschool lolis. 6/5

Magipoka - search "liru" in google and you'll know why I watched this. The show is amusing at best. 3/5

Nyan Koi - Guy is cursed by cats and has to help them or he'll turn into a cat himself. He's also allergic to them.

Okami Kakushi - Town of "gods". They're basically wolves that are tempted by the scent of humans but if they become attracted to one and make a move on them they're assassinated.

Okami-san to shichinin no nakama-tachi - Group of people take on menial jobs for people. 3/5. Would give 4/5 if not for the narration.

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Guy has a younger sister that's always preppy and is condescending to him. Turns out she plays adult dating sims and reads doujins and wants someone to talk to about it so she turns to him.

Read or Die (OVA) - Special agents with special powers. WAS SO GOOD. Avoid the anime, though.

Rurouni Kenshin - This show was canceled and it saddened me greatly. A manslayer from a previous war has turned to a peaceful life and vowed never to kill again. He fights to protect his new friends. This was my favorite show up until it got canceled because of the filler getting low ratings and the manga taking too long to come out and save it.

Samurai X - OVA series for Rurouni Kenshin. Shows him in the war as a manslayer. Was great.

Sayounara Zetsubou Sensai - Teacher that is always in despair and wants to die. He teaches a group of children that cover just about every stereotype in the book. Was a hilarious show and I wish they'd make a 4th season.

Shin Chan - oh god how did you not see this on Adult Swim. This isn't something I could ever tell someone to watch in one sitting. This is a sitcom you catch on TV and laugh at how stupid and crude it is.

Sora no Otoshimono - Pervert wants to live a peaceful life but then a large breasted angel falls to earth and causes him a headache. This was actually pretty good.

Sora no Otoshimono - Forte - Season 2 of above. I look forward to the movie.

Soro no Woto - Watch K-ON!. This is basically a military version of that.

To Aru Majutsu no Index - Guy with misfortune gets more misfortune as he's stuck with a small girl that contains 103,000 grimoires. She's constantly being targeted and he ends up being the only one that can help her. He doesn't have any abilities of his own thanks to his right arm that cancels out magic effects.

To Aru Majutsu no Index II - Season 2 (3 kind of) of above.

To Kagaku no Railgun - Side story of Index that aired after the first season. You'll want to watch this before the second season.

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni - DO NOT WATCH THIS SHOW. The first 3-4 episodes were AMAZING and I thought it might end up being my new favorite show. It degraded from murder mystery to girls in bunny suits shooting lazers and missiles not too long after that, though.

Working!! - Group of strange characters working in a restaurant. Basically a comedy sitcom. It's probably one of my favorites.

World Only God Knows - This show is a biography of my life. Please watch.

Yosuga no Sora - This is a weird one. It has 4 different stories and will go back in time to continue off from one point but go in a different direction. It's basically a romance anime but the character will pick a different girl each time. If you watch this then keep in mind this has sex in it as well as incest.
