I love these opinions. Hatsune Miku is from Final Fantasy? I also laughed heavily at the "Ooooooooooooooooohhh that's how type made 'ni-on' cat.", I am confused about the older looking girl in the grey top, What happened to Rock 'n' Roll? Were you alive when Rock 'n' Roll was about?

Oh my god, this get's better, Hannah Motona is a hooker!!!!!!!

The 6 year old is my favourite of them, in about 3 videos she is dancing to the music.

I think there's an interesting point buried in this. What is "real"? Just because Hatsune Miku doesn't exist physically the way fleshies like us do, does that make her music any less real? People will have to face this issue directly more and more as cyberspace is more closely integrated with real life.

Also, I'm actually slightly surprised that not a single kid actually recognized Hatsune Miku. She's one of the more recognizable Japanese characters, and given how much Japanese media has crossed over into America, you'd think at least one of the kids would recognize her.

I also laughed at the "autotuned to heck" comment, because it's basically autotune singing the entire song.

I don't know actually how much Hatsune Miku appears over in America, but she's non existent over here in the UK. The only signs I see of her are when I go to the London Anime expo twice a year and the VERY OCCASION reference to her in NEO magazine. So I didn't surprise me that people don't know of her, especially 11 year old kids.

Don't forget, the people that made these videos can't pronounce Nyan (apparently "Ni-yan") cat, and that thing was insane.

I still love this version though:

Amagami SS. Please say you have watched this Jack. It's subbed by UTW if you haven't. They have also subbed the BD's with extra scenes.

Btw, the rule used to be we can't link to such sites as those as it's err... bad, are we still not allowed to?

That is possibly the stupidest thing to take from this.

The best way to think of Miku is as an instrument. The music is not "her music" but the composer's. Let's rephrase what you just said:

Just because Synthesized tunes don't exist physically the way fleshies like us do, does that make music containing them any less real?

All songs that you hear are composed by actual people, DECO*27, cosmo-P, ryo, Koman, fatman-P, and many others. These people have actual musical talent and are behind what's created. Vocalodi songs aren't commissioned or anything like that, I think only a handful of the songs ever created are considered "official", and at the concert that was shown to those kids, the "official" songs made up only about 10%, if even that. The creative aspect behind Vocaloid songs are just regular people with a fondness for music, and the only real connection between them is their choice in how they expressed the vocal aspect of their songs.

Got to agree with Thyker here. Are these songs real, yes? Is the talent real? Well maybe not the singing, but the instrument accompaniment was played live and someone had write the music and lyrics, so yes, there is real talent there too.

Just because a computer is singing the words (that's all it actually is), doesn't make a song less real. That would be like saying that Rebecca Black's song wasn't real (although can you class that as a song?), as 99.9999% of it was autotune. I'm sure Britney Spears wouldn't be far off too, as I'm pretty sure she isn't really able to sing, at least not live, without heavy retuning.

...I agree with your opinions, but there are obviously people out there that don't. I wasn't saying that I'm doubting that the music was real, but I feel that a large amount of the population would feel that a Vocaloid isn't "real" music. However, at what point do you draw the line? I myself expect completely computer-composed music to be created sometime in the not-so-distant future; is that still real? Also, I was trying to get at a larger issue; how the feeling that things that happen on a computer as opposed to in the outside world are less real; as everyday life becomes further and further meshed with cyberspace, these sorts of questions will become common.

...You know, forget it. That's a topic better suited for the debate forum. I wonder how the kids would have reacted to a Volcaliod that was not obviously one (I believe a J-pop group actually did something like that recently).

A few weeks ago my co-worker took the human genome and set it up so that when it hit certain parts of the genome, it would change the pitch or tempo of something and create music. Sounded like something out of Silent Hill, I'm told. Is it still "music"? It was about as "creative" as artists creating work from fractals.
