I now have a WiiU(yay?). I want to use it for party games. Like mario party, super smash, or marioland.

I have so many questions with the controllers! Mine came with a WiiU gamepad.
1-does this act as the (primary?) controller for all games?
2-should I get a 2nd game pad?
3-does the gamepad work with ALL games? Including games from the first Wii? Or do I need Wii remotes to play old games?
4-what are the advantages to getting a WiiU pro controller? And does this thing work with ALL games?
5-what is the difference between Wii remote and wii remote plus? And i'm thinking of getting 4 of these. Is that a good idea?

Cool! Add me; my Miiverse name is JaronOrchard. :D

1) For all Wii U games, yes. Although you can use other controllers, the Wii U Gamepad is used for everything from navigating the system menus to playing games (with or without TV).
2) No. As far as I'm aware, they're expensive, and right now there aren't any games that really use two Gamepads.
3) All Wii U games, obviously, but it probably won't work well with the original Wii since it's not an easily-waveable remote. For instance, try to imagine playing Zelda: Skyward Sword, which requires swinging your Wiimote like a sword. You can't do that with a Gamepad. You'll probably need Wiimotes.
4) I don't have any experience with this, sorry, but my guess is that it's sort of like using a Gamecube controller for your Wii U. That kind of thing. We play Super Smash Brothers Brawl a lot around here and use the Gamecube controller ports on my original Wii, but the Wii U doesn't have any. I assume once the new Smash Bros game comes out, it might be popular? It works with some games, but not all.
5) The Wii Remote Plus is just a Wii Remote with the Wii Motionplus Attachment built into it. These days, I would highly suggest getting the Wii Remote Plus since most games require the MotionPlus add-on. And, although it would end up being expensive as the Wiimotes are not cheap, I would say it's a good idea, yeah. You may need Nunchuk attachments as well. All of this depends on how you plan to use your Wii U--don't buy 4 Wiimotes if you only intend to ever have 2 people use the system! But I got Nintendoland with my Wii U, and it is a complete blast. You need the Gamepad and 4 Wiimotes to play 5-player games on that and oh my goodness it's great. So if you plan to play 5-player games, you'll need 4 Wiimotes (and probably 4 Nunchuks). It all depends on your game preferences.

I also recommend Super Mario 3D World as a great 4-player co-op game; we just beat it 100% last week and it was a ton of fun.

Hope this helps; enjoy your console! :D

Nintendoland. yes. haha that is what i meant to say earlier instead of 'marioland'

thanks a ton for all the advice! i will end up getting 4 wiimotes and 4 nunchucks, rather than 2. cause that way I will rock all those 5 player games when some friends come over.

if i remember correctly there was a boxed pack that sold a wii remote with the super mario 3d world game. so that is 1 controller taken care of :P

i'll add you after this thing finishes its updates.

I might get a WiiU when the price drops. I need to get an XboxOne, and a new Desktop first. I plan to get all the new systems... Eventually.

Well..I could have gotten used/cheaper ones, but they weren't black to match my other wiimotes and the wii itself. It seems vanity has gotten the best of me again.

Yeah, they arnt that bad thr. I ended up getting a 'pre owned' system that was still new in the box for $180. So I thought i'd take advantage of that :P

And spiro, I actually intend to get all the controllers a different colour. Then I can watch as I pit my friends against eachother. "Dibs red!" "No, I want the red one!" "No me!"

Then all you have to do is take the red one in the confusion.
