Looks amazing. Too bad I haven't owned a Gameboy since Color.

Though pokemon has always pulled me towards buying the most advanced gameboy, it still seems silly for me to purchase a gaming system for one game.

Based on the starters, they look more like pokemon are supposed to compared to previous generations IMO, so as long as the others are up to scratch I'll be pleased :)

However, I'm also a bit disappointed because I was hoping for a R/S/E remake.

Interesting! I wasn't expecting them to stray from the color/gemstone naming conventions.

The starters look alright, except for the fire one...
I'm more excited to see this movement to 3D over anything else though.

Agree 100% with all of this post. I personally had great trouble remembering what types a lot of the Gen 5 pokemon were, whereas I had no trouble with 1, 2, 3, and 4. And I was also greatly hoping for a R/S/E remake. Perhaps that will be the second RPG for the 3DS.

This is why I've been holding off on purchasing a 3DS, the lack of a true Pokemon RPG. Now I'm pretty much going to be getting one before the October release of X & Y.

Remakes have always followed these two rules:

1) Remakes skip over a new system. Red/Blue/Green/Yellow were on GameBoy, skipped over GameBoy Color, and were remade as FireRed/LeafGreen on GameBoy Advance. Gold/Silver/Crystal were on GameBoy Color, skipped over GameBoy Advance, and were remade as HeartGold/SoulSilver on DS. So, since Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald were made for GameBoy Advance, it makes sense that they'd skip over DS and be remade for 3DS.

2) Remakes are never the first Pokémon game on a system. FireRed/LeafGreen came after Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and HeartGold/SoulSilver came after Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. So it's possible that the next Pokémon game after X and Y will be remakes of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.

Well, that's assuming this trend continues. And how long should it continue? Do we want remakes of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and Black/White/Black2/White2 on the system that comes after 3DS?

Somewhat related, here's an interesting chart showing all of the Pokémon games on each system so far:

Grass starter Pokemon all the way, always!

Though in this generation the Fire one does look best.

My hatred for 3D technologies is being put to the test here. I don't know if I will bring myself to bite the bullet and get one. I guess I have almost a year to decide though.

Yes, completely agree. Blaziken is probably by far my favorite pokemon, but that combination is really starting to get stale.

My personal favourite was Infernape. Emboar as a Fire/fighting type just seemed forced, it didn't make much sense to me.

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

Since it takes place in France we'll be able to flee from trainer battles, right?
