In terms of membership and other payments for the game. I almost had 2 years of membership over the past 10 years i was playing, so around $110. Didn't buy runecoins or spins.

Yeah, they got a couple hundred from me too. Its been a couple years of membership. And certainly no squeal spins or yadda yadda from me.

I subscribed in December 2004. I finally quit somewhere in late 2012, I do believe. At $5 a month, that's $60 a year, over nearly eight years, so well over $450 in the end.

Except that subscription rates have changed wildly over the last 5 years. I first subscribed in the middle of 2004 and being Australian and paying by phone it was around $15 for me back then. I've never been subscribed for a solid long period of time so I can only estimate, but I think mine would be around $350-$400 AUD.

I also don't subscribe for long. I think 2 consecutive months was the longest i've stayed a member for. I was on and off and spent most of my time on f2p.

They've changed wildly, but I believe two things have held constant:

1) Whatever price you subscribed at was your set price. RS membership rates went up as years passed but I never paid more than $5/month, ever.
2) Pay-by-phone prices were always outrageous for some reason. I think in 2004 they were $10 USD if you paid by phone.

I'm sure Jagex stated that if you don't cancel, you will get to pay at the older rate. Since i ancelled a lot, i ended up paying $5.95 and 7.95.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the set prices. Pay-by-phone was always more expensive but I was way too young to have a debit card back then.


There used to be more of a difference back then. Hell, when the financial crisis hit in 2009 we were down to just above 0.60 USD for 1 AUD. Now we've back up to an almost 1/1 rate and sometimes even go above it. We just pay more for everything in general though, boxed games off the shelf are usually around $100 at release, but our national minimum wage is so high compared to our cost of living that it evens itself out compared to other western countries.

That still sounds weird to me. But British pounds does too as many new videogames are 40 pounds instead of 60 U.S dollars.

I've spent approximately 540 USD on Runescape - 6 years subscription and once I bought the big package of rune coins for the sake of getting extra bank space.




Australians have always paid a lot more than anyone else but no, the australian dollar doesn't have that low value.. aussies just get screwed by jagex who claim there are certain expenditures in publishing the game to the australian market. I rockon it's a crock...




They have changed it, now you get the discounted price if you have been subscribed for 12 months.

AFTER you have been subscribed for a year, so the first year you're subscribed, you pay the higher price.
And obviously that only applies for paying by credit/debit card.

But yeah, you can totally get to pay the dicounted price

I think I may have spent... uh. Roughly $125, between my membership costs and a few gift cards I'd bought for people? I used to keep all the cards I bought for friends on a keyring, but now I can't find it.

It would be hard to calculate for me, I joined in 03 and was a member from 04-07 and then on/off for a few years. In the early years I didn't have a debit card (£3.95) so paid by text (£5). I used to get given £10 for top-up on a PAYG sim, and it would give me 300 free texts every time I topped up and I never used them all and barely phoned anyone. In the end it meant half of the money could be used to pay for RS, so really I didn't pay anything for the first 2/3 years. In total I reckon I've spent around £60 on membership at most.

I first became a member in the fall of 08 and still am a member...but I somehow pay 7.95 a month, I was sure it was still at least 5.95 then. I must have had a lapse at some point.

Anyways I'm sure the figure is over 400 USD, over the course of five years.
