I decided to log onto classic today for the first time since RS2 released. I couldn't help but smile at the crappy graphics and began to reminiscence. I was just wondering if there are any active classic members. As rare as they may be, I just figured there must be a handful who actually play it regularly still after so many years.

I go on every once in a while. Like once a month or so. I'd certainly play more if there were people to play with

I attempted to play for a couple hours the other night, but it is just so extremely empty. I saw 4 people total after traveling to most of the major cities, and I'm confident that all four of them were bots.

I even spent about an hour keeping one of them locked in the Edgeville jail as it helplessly tried to pickpocket the guards outside.

I have access to the Veteran server and the last time I played it seriously was at the last reopening. Of course Jagex have stated that they don't plan on opening RSC again, so I doubt there are many even outside the village who still play it regularly besides the clique of veteran players who never stopped in the first place and are in the possession of hundreds of millions of GP and most of the remaining rares. Botting has become particularly bad since the final reopening because of the absence of any mod presence on the servers.

Below are some screencaps of Mod Maile appearing on the server a couple of days before the final closing. It's plausibly the last time a jmod will ever appear on one of the servers and I don't have many other pictures of the final reopening so I just thought I'd share.

You might also want to check out the RS official forums if you want to interact with other RSC players since the RSC section still exists right at the bottom of the page. Also there are other ways of experiencing some RSC nostalgia even if they're not very good.

By no means do I have hundreds of millions of gold or any holiday items anymore  10 years and counting for me! I don't plan on switching to RSC from RS2, but like Market Man6 said, I would play more if I had people to play with.

Tried to play a bit more tonight, still boring.

It's been a long-standing note on my RuneScape to-do list to finish the Legend's Quest on RSC. Still need to get the levels for it, and do Temple of Ikov + Family Crest (plus get the levels for those).

So I'll probably be playing for a few hours here and there every so often.

Why play a fake RuneScape when I still have access to the real classic?

I noticed the server list when I went back to the classic page after you said this. I attempted to log into the Veteran server and it said my account was not a veteran RSC account. I created my RuneScape account in September of 2001, how am I not a classic veteran?

To access the 'Veteran RSC' server, you had to have logged into it during a certain time period they had it open. Having a 10 year old account myself, I happened to miss this period, and cannot log into that server either.

I don't understand. I would think that time period would be any time before RS2.

They didn't keep all the account records from that period to avoid strain to the server and because a lot of people were botting on RSC.

To access the veteran server you have to had been a member and logged into RSC at any time from the 4th of August 2005 to the 15th of January 2006 (the time that RSC first closed). Not a very hard thing to do at the time for anyone who actually bothered to read the front page news.

It's hard to accept that though, considering my history with the game. I just began member's a little over a year ago. Before that, I was always a free player. Last time I checked, you had to be a "Veteran" to buy the Veteran cape, and you had to be a "Veteran" to use the Veteran server. I had no issues getting my Veteran cape on release day and I have been a member less than 2 years, I just don't see how the server should be any different.

My account has also existed for almost 10 years now but I also have no way to prove it having missed out on the bunny ear/scythe drops back in the day due to computer time restrictions and mild ignorance. Having missed events that were only available for a limited amount of time in the past is just something you learn to deal with.

I have old holiday items though. Plus, before the whole Jagex wont support Runevillage scenerio (I wont get into it...) my account could be validated to at least January 24, 2003, the date of my Runevillage account creation. Obviously, anyone using RV at that time used it solely as a Runescape forum 99% of the time. I still do.

I was speaking more in the context of not being able to prove it to other players besides them taking my word for it (until the 10-year cape comes out of course, even though that only requires my account having existed for 10 years and not since 2002).

Jagex knows exactly when both our accounts were created which may be exactly the same date depending on when they started keeping records of account creation (this date is currently unknown by everyone except Jagex themselves). They don't care whether or not you have access to the veteran server because they think you should be playing RS2 instead.
