Subscription numbers have been dropping. At the end of last month it was at 504k, now it's at 493k.

Pretty significant but still a high number of subs. More than i expected.

Bots are still in the game and they still sell gold cheaper than the price of Bonds. It's true that bots mostly disappeared when 2007scape was released, but that's because there was a new game they could feed off and their coffers of gold in EoC were plenty full.

Personally I'm gonna stay in RuneScape until ESO is released, which should happen before my subscription runs out. There's no way to know whether it will succeed or not, but either way I will not be coming back to RuneScape after that.

yeh i have rarely been on runescape for the last 2 months, i got so many games to finish off thanks to steam sales and humble deals.

I still need to finish of GTA 5 and try the online part, i will be playing ESO to i played about 30 mins of it at Eurogamer expo and enjoyed it.

Every single Fuzzy Bunny update is "This is the stone that broke the camels back" and yet the camels back is still not broken.

You compare subscription numbers from the end of summer in the northern hemisphere (It's not unreasonable to assume some children don't get P2P during school time) and when Jagex explicitly works at getting rid of gold farming and botting... And call it a failure for Jagex.

Also your claim that it's now going to be used to buy success is pretty ridiculous - What's to stop someone buying gold now?

Anyway, your decision. Have fun with WoW!

Simon hit the nail right on the head. This game isn't a game anymore, it's become a business model. And the new head honchos are going to wring as much profit as they can from it, then ditch the game. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if *tomorrow* they pulled the plug on RS, said "Fuzzy Bunny you" to us all and scampered off with their bags of cash.

Except that I've logged in about once a week in the past few months. I had said previously that I'd likely retain membership until the end but this development has made me think twice. The new skill isn't any fun, and it's completely worthless.

There is still a new skill to compliment divination. It just might be as boring and useless as divination is.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest (not that I'm playing any more), a lot of games are doing this now. Meh. GW2 does it, although that's a slightly different situation since it's the main source of their income due to no subscription fees.

It gives peoples with lives and an income an alternative method of achieving things in the game they previously couldn't, and it's more money for Jagex of course.

As an aside, some people think spending real $$$ on in-game $$$ is sad but it's hard to take that opinion seriously when you're playing mmorpgs 16 hours a day (not directed at anyone here).

Thats actually a good point that I never thought of.
I forgot there are people that pour 16hrs a day into RS. These bonds would save them some time and they could achieve their goals faster.

Then go outside ;)
