Just a random thought that occurred to me;

*The KBD is considered a push over these days. He's hardly worth killing anymore.
*f2p has always lacked a "boss monster"

So an easy way to fix both of these? Make the KBD lair accessible to f2p.

Imagine how challenging the KBD would be on a f2p world. No antifire potions, no super potions, hell - no prayer potions! It would have to be a group event, and it would make a great addition to f2p.

The only problem is that there's a lot to be desired as far as rewards go, since the KBD wouldn't drop Dragon Bones, Dragonhides, or any other members items like the d med or visage. So there's an interesting approach to take in making him worth slaying; A new f2p-only drop. (Meaning it's only obtainable on a f2p server, not that it can't be used on a member's server.)

A quick idea for this would be a Dragon Cloak that offers further resistance to dragonfire, ice breath, and the KBD's shock breath. (Not offering full protection in any of these cases, but reduced damage/effects.) Only being able to obtain it on a f2p server would keep it rare and worth the challenge.

This is just a really quickly thrown together idea obviously, but basically I think giving f2p access to the KBD would be a refreshing new spin on our favorite dragon. :^_^:

Other than that... why didn't anyone think of this sooner? O_O

i agree that this should be put in there, maybe make it drop just large amounts of noted raw materials?

Says who? A level 138 or a level 80? Many people consider General Graardor a pushover. The Kalphite Queen is hardly worth killing anymore. Should they be added to f2p?

They get their taste of a boss with Elvarg, if they want the real deal they'll subscribe.

Jagex is a business. In my opinion, they're too generous with f2p already.

Kikori- I realized the aspect of poison being a factor when posting this. They could honestly either add the poison status to f2p (with the kbd being the only f2p npc that *can* poison, and still restricting weapon poison to members), or they could just remove poison from the f2p KBD's arsenal. It would still be a huge challenge to kill in f2p even without poison effects.

As far as the cloak goes, keeping it to free worlds is to insure you can only get the drop by killing it the hard way. The players that dislike any sort of challenge will complain, but they could go ahead and cry. lol

Paidea- Level 70s can kill the KBD like it's nothing these days. Your comparisons make no sense - Graardor has worthwhile drops, and the KQ is in a members-only area. (Where as the KBD lair is in the wilderness where f2p can already get to.)

And your view on f2p is extremely cynical. Elvarg can hardly be considered a boss. If anything, giving f2p access to the KBD will cause them to want to try the KQ, Drag Kings, etc that much more. As it is now, the KBD isn't worth existing aside from its chance of dropping a visage. It's not so much a matter of generosity towards f2p than it would be healthy for the game.

Jagex has made it clear that they view f2p as a game in itself rather than a "demo" - The argument of "f2p already gets too much" is pointless and honestly invalid.

I'm sorry, but the average level 70 player cannot kill the King Black Dragon "like nothing". Point acknowledged that Graardor and KQ are in members areas - but Graardor is a pushover and the KQ has no worthwhile drops. The idea is that just because they're "broken" doesn't mean Jagex has to "fix" them. Just because the KBD is "broken" doesn't mean Jagex has to remedy the situation.

What could it hurt, right? Well, "Awesome, I just killed Elvarg! Now I want to slay more dragons!" -> "Oh, no dragons in F2P. I guess I'll subscribe". As opposed to "Awesome, I just killed Elvarg! Now I want to slay more dragons!" -> goes to the KBD.

Simply put, just because a monster is antiquated doesn't mean it should be exported to F2P. There are other ways of creating a "healthier game" than giving F2Pers outdated P2P monsters just because hardly anyone cares about them.

Interesting idea. I've never actually faced the KBD, though as a lv 83 I should have no trouble according to Goten. I think it would be a nice addition to F2P (either that or making Elvarg less of a pushover).

Well, not going to elaborate here, or make a new topic, but some ideas floating through my thoughts include: stricter policy on trolling/internet bullying, "break" checks (You have played 6 hours straight! Please take a break...), readjustment on the speed at which prices of items can spike up or down, more small "tweaks" to minor grievances...

The only real flaw I see in this is that you can only get it on a free world. I'd make it obtainable on both free and members worlds.

Member* level 70s can have superior equipment, many potions at their disposal, better prayers, better food, and special attacks. That's why THEY can solo a King Black Dragon.

Free players would have to collaborate, Sora.

Maybe accounts that are made specifically for boss slaying and such. A normal member level 70 can't do that.

(I'm not arguing for or against; just though I should clarify that.)

I managed to kill one King Black Dragon at 106 combat.

Give it to F2P, in my opinion.

I've always been opposed to updating f2p.

It discourages people from subscribing if they can get new content in p2p. I actually almost locked this topic out of habit because we used to not allow topics saying we should move member content to F2p <_<

I've never killed the KBD personally and I'm level 87 combat. I'd hardly call it a pushover, but this topic makes me want to try it and see how well I could do. I always figured the reason no one cared about the KBD anymore was because it's major drop (dragon med) is only 60k on the GE now.

I also wouldn't want to see the scorpions before the KBD get their poison removed... That just feels like they'd just be making things easier. Maybe we could add poison to f2p and tell them that if they subscribe they can get the antidotes XD

So poison was up in the air, not dead set.

Also, limiting what a player can do with something that comes from a large group (i.e. one of many minigames, one of many bosses, only a few out of many cities...) is an introduction, almost a teaser, which intices players to want the rest. The King Black Dragon is probably the poorest dropper compared to the bosses you have to group hunt, so it's of very little consequence to declare it the "teaser" boss to free players who would have a damn good challenge to try and beat it. That challenge, if it's too much or beaten and more is needed, could easily be sated by playing on a member's world to have the potions needed to make it easier or have the new bosses open.

I can't help but think that Elvarg already serves that purpose though. I remember when I killed Elvarg the first thing that came to mind was "I want to kill a stronger dragon." And I know back then, if they were coming out with updates just for F2P I would have sat there and waited for F2P to get that other dragon...

There's not a lot of content between the F2P quests and the KBD either on free servers... Users generally want to switch to members to get content after they've finished the f2p quests and I don't think moving the KBD to f2p would change that in a positive way... I think the KBD being in f2p would add the idea that there's still something more to do and then people would stick with f2p until they had killed it... and without much content to help them reach the level to kill the kbd (and the ammount of people that would start flooding in there just because it was f2ps greatest attraction) would deter people from getting membership until much later and many of those players might give up on the game.

Really I think it'd just be sad to see this happen, too... I remember all those ads using KBD as one of member's biggest things.

I've been considering alot of things about this topic. An average level 70 in f2p has 60 defence, thats enough for corrupt dragon, but the food is limited at anchovy pizzas, but that heals 22. Potions are limited to Strength pot.
So i went to the Kbd, with full rune, anti-dragonfire shield, team cape 33, amulet of strength, corrupt dragon scimmy and 1 Strength pot and 27 Anchovy pizza, i got him down to half health, if i had full corrupt dragon, i still would've died, and it wouldn't be worth the cost.

Btw im 110 combat in p2p, 102 in f2p
