That's not gonna happen. A lot of people are unhappy with Jagex here, and rightfully so, but all of their actions only prove the game just keeps attracting more and more players.

I can't pretend I'm going to cancel my membership because frankly, I'm not. This is a heaping load of BS but Jagex still has a pretty good product that I enjoy.

I would never defend them on this front, because there's no word for it other than 'wrong', but I'm going to paypal it or get prepaid cards. Even more so, you guys should note that there's another line of defense if someone does this and gets your info: your goddamn bank. I know if I went into my bank and told them someone had unauthorized access to my account, something would be done about it. Moreover, I have identity protection insurance that I know would cover something like this.

In short, it's bad. Really bad. But I'm not gonna let it drive me away from doing something I like to do. Jagex's attitude is nonsense, but it is our responsibilities to protect our information. Whether that's my way, or your way of removing your membership, we all win in the end because we're safe.

Meanwhile I've pretty much cleared out 99% of my bank and, once I get the spaces filled with as many free-play possible items as I can (using just less than 4 mil, wish me luck!), it's a subscription cancel for me.
I highly doubt I was getting back into the game to start with. This behavior's pretty much it for me. Looking back, I'm kinda glad we didn't end up with majority votes for the RVET to get into Runescape events.

If a member is paying by credit card, and the credit card information has been saved with Jagex, there is no identity verification between clicking the in-game "buy spins" button and confirming the transaction. This means that someone with unauthorized access to a RuneScape account can turn up to $200/day of the rightful owner's money into Squeal spins. Since there is no option to disable spin purchasing on an account, it is also possible for children whose parents pay for their RuneScape membership to spend their parents' money on Squeal spins without their knowledge. These issues have provoked accusations that Jagex is violating laws concerning customer data protection. Jagex has replied with reminders to keep your RuneScape login information secure.
Additionally, they changed their Terms and Conditions[1][2], effective 2nd April, 2012 to avoid lawsuits by adding a line in the Subscription section:

"We reserve the right to charge you for any unauthorized use of your subscription by third parties."

I would laugh if I wasn't genuinely disgusted.

Jagex officially has no shame whatsoever.

Is that legal in every country they operate in? I know it's legal in the UK and I suspect the US but that is a seriously questionable practice.

What the Fuzzy Bunny? Did EA buy out Jagex or something? I knew it had gotten bad there, but holy Fuzzy Bunny.

11 Days later and the official forums are still flooded with ongoing complaint threads while Jagex still hasn't (and most likely never will) made an official response addressing the concerns of the clear majority of the player base.

Just saiyan.

What is this? A p2p MMO who went on record for being one of the most anti RWT game out there is starting to implement microtransactions?

I'm definitely never renewing my membership again unless they take that update back.

Considering the guy in the video gained 509k exp from 300+ spins ($80US) that seems about right for 75 spins if not a bit unlucky. Generally it's better to trust the larger sized sample of data but the difference here is only around 27k exp.

Basically it can be assumed from this data that $100 US worth of spins = 600 - 625k Experience.
Assuming you got unlucky and every $100 US you spent got you 600k experience, it would mean 1 million experience would cost $167 US and to gain 13,034,000 experience it would cost about $2150 - $2200 US.

Any player who is willing to cough up the money and spend about 5-6 hours (approximated guess) clicking on the wheel and lamps can now gain the amount of experience it requires for a skill to go from level 1 - 99 in under 24 hours. No previous skills have to be leveled up beforehand, no in-game money has to be spent and no quests/tasks have to be completed for a player to utilize this method.

^ And that, while awful in itself, is only the beginning.

Experience has shown us that RS players tend to get accustomed to even the worse updates that Jagex put forth. Now that they've put their foot in the microtransactions door, it won't be long until you'll be able to purchase in-game items.

165k RC xp actually. I think. But I'm level 92 in that already.

I'm in no danger of my money running low, so yes and no. I was interested to see the sort of rewards I'd get. It's mostly trash.

Yeah.. It seems my calculations were actually a bit low. I just noticed while the guy in the video gained 509k Runecrafting exp, he also gained 941k total experience.
