Thanks for the suggestions you guys!

@Thr: Ooh, I really like Varenite.

@bluecoat: Got it, thanks!

@Market: Hehe, yeah, it's tough. Brontium, for instance, really reminds me of Strontium, which is a periodic element. And I don't think I'm going for anything corny--Sparky suggested that too, like "sharptite" or something. He also suggested going with all the normal suffixes of -ite, -ium, -ous, etc., but after doing some research it looks like only -ite is the real one for ores and whatnot (adamantite, runite, etc.) whereas -ium and -ous are more often used for chemical compounds. There are obviously exceptions, though, like how Avatar used Unobtainium, so we'll see.

New release!

Okay so ever since my last update in June I was adding a bunch of stuff; mining (it's gotta work for multiple players online, mannn) and an inventory revamp and a completely new area and all of the new tile textures that go with that territory. I wanted to finish up a few more things before a new release (bat enemies, throwing darts, smithing bars into items), but unfortunately, as summer wound down I found myself making less and less progress. Now that I'm back at graduate school, I haven't really worked on Crissaegrim much at all, and it doesn't look like I'll have a good chance to anytime soon.

SO.

Yesterday I created signposts and a miniature Barrett Station, which was always going to be the name of the world's central hub. There's a new release, and here's the list of patch notes from my website:

Updates:
  • Inventory revamp with expanded space! Press E to open the new inventory dialog, which allows you to see, rearrange, or drop any of your 30 items
  • Certain items (such as party poppers) are now stackable
  • Items that enemies drop when your inventory is full now fall on the ground instead of disappearing
  • Your inventory is automatically saved and loaded, so your items will be there when you come back
  • New area: Morriston Mine! This vast cavern in a mountain contains a new mining area and a deadly spike pit
  • New activity: Mining! Grab your pickaxe and dig three different types of ore out of Morriston Mine
  • New activity: Smelting! Use Morriston Mine's nearby furnace to smelt those ores into bars (which, at the moment, do nothing)
  • New area: Barrett Station! This hub of the world connects all of Crissaegrim's prior locations together
  • New object: Signposts! Press F to read them (also in this update: new dialog boxes)
  • Various other minor fixes and improvements

(hint: beating the clock tower again is a good idea)

Feel free to check it out by going to http://poorshark.com/game/! And thanks to everyone that ever played Crissaegrim. :D I don't intend for this to be the end, but I also know that my priorities have already shifted Crissaegrim pretty far back. We'll see what happens!

So I've not played this for months and I'm going to hop on and see all these glorious changes.

Oh man Jan, you just got zinged by Riptide. How much does THAT suck?

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.
