So I decided to work on getting my mining level up after several years of neglect and while I was mining at the lava flow I saw this little beauty. I remember reading somewhere that there were only 100 in the game? If so, has anyone else seen one of them or something just as or even rarer in Runescape?

I guess alot of people were upset when they did this, as it so similarly resembles the scythe they gave away back in classic days.

They were indeed given away at RuneFest this year, but we weren't being told there that they would be so rare (we were even told not to rush it since we had all the time we wanted). It was part of the "Deathcon" thingy where we had to combine the information that was spread around the event with the information that was available on the forums. Only the first 25 players (if I recall correctly) got the golden scythe. Anyone that arrived later than those (including me) only got the Sock Mask.

Actually possibly less. 25 of the redeem cards were awarded to people at Runefest, but it's possible that not all the winners actually redeemed their scythes.

I dunno how I feel about it, personally. I think it's cool that there's such a rare item in-game, but the fact that it was only available to a select few of Runefest attendees is.. eh. I live in the US and have little spare cash, there's no possible way that I (or any player like me) could attend Runefest. It's a bit upsetting that real life monetary status is a factor in obtaining these items.

But hey, it's pretty ugly so whatever.

Never even knew these existed.


Not to mention that this is a recreation of an item only dropped in Runescape's true golden days. Nothing is sacred to the new owners of Jagex.

Meh. I'm indifferent to them. I think it's kind of neat, tbh. I do think that all the RF attendees should have gotten one though, but that will never be me, so it goes...
