2013 started off fairly normal. Work resumed after the holidays and my boss and I went to conklin, alberta. I spent several weeks up there in a 10day on 4day off shift marking boundaries of areas to be cleared.
After that we spent a few weeks in brooks, alberta doing some prairie work. Spotting future wells with clients and surveying right of ways.
Once the work in brooks was done we returned to calgary to do some work around the city. At this time my boss booked some holidays and took off for a vacation. The field coordinator called me and said to take my boss' truck and equipment and get right back to work

So for the time being, I was acting crew chief and had a helper of my own. We finished up the city work just in time for my boss to return from vacation so I gave back the truck and the equipment.
The office must have liked my city work because as soon as i returned the equipment, they called me and said there was a truck of my own waiting for me at the office. I picked it up, they gave me a helper and off we went to conklin. The summer greeted me with a surprisingly large construction job. We were contracting to an earthworks company that would take a hilly 55 acre field, move over 65,000 cubic metres of earth, and form a foundation for an oil storage facility. I learned tons of things while on that job! There were hoes, dozers, rock trucks, packers, and scrapers all running around building berms, roads, ponds and leveling the rest. My job was to tell them how close they were to design. Which spots needed more dirt, and which spots were to high. I enjoyed watching the site transform. But eventually, the ground froze and work had to stop.
For the rest of november and december I looked at houses when I wasnt working around calgary, or making trips back up north.
Eventually I found one that I liked, went through TONS of annoyances to get a mortgage. Got the place. Moved in on the 30th and are in the process of unpacking

So far, 2013 was one of the best years! After working over 4000 hours, I threw the earnings at a proper investment

How was the year for you guys??!
