I will be taking care of, and exercising four Arabians mares for this guy and his wife, about three times a week from 10-1pm. I went over their house, and they asked about my experiences with horses, and went over what is expected of me. My parents have also met up with them (I do no drive at the moment) and they seem really nice, laid back, and willing to teach me other barn chores. The guy even offered to help me learn how to drive, so I can get my license! I have to say, I am extremely excited and glad about this opportunity. It is somewhat of a miracle that I was the one to take his order last Wednesday at my primary job. I will still be working at Panera, but I hope to slowly move away from there as I gain more experience working for this guy.

Just had to share because it was one of my lifelong dreams to be working with horses somehow, and getting some kind of a career in the Equine Industry. I also hope this opens up new doors for me. :)

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

Congrats!! That is awesome :D

If you find that one day you want even more, then you should check out spruce meadows in calgary. There are tons of stables around there with lots of jobs available.

Congrats! I rode a horse only once in my life, and I wish I had gotten the chance to do it again.

So far, they're going to start me at about $9/hr, but it may be more with the more experience I gain from working with the horses. He and his wife are also looking to purchase some sheep, so I get to learn a bit of sheep handling too. If I prove to be good, more hours, and more pay will come my way, as well as more experience. He wants me to focus on the work horse he has chosen for me, due to her calm nature. She will be the main one I will be riding, and exercising I think, with the other mares following suit, if I prove to be good. However, riding/lunging training, will most likely not start until the weather is a bit warmer, and 'til I get to know the horses really well. He wants me to bond with each of them to get to know their personalities. Lol, if I had a choice, I would love to be at the place all day!

It's always nice when someone's doing something they love. How's it going?

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

Lol well so far, was not able to go to the barn Wednesday or today due to bad weather. The guy called me on both occasions, saying it was better to stay safe. We're planning and hoping that next Saturday will bring out good weather, so he can show me around and start on safety procedures, bonding, etc. I was pretty bummed, yet touched that he and his wife care about safety in snow stormy weather. I am really hoping that next Saturday will be nice so I get to spend time with the mares.

I'm late to the party, but as someone who also recently landed my dream job, all I can say is a really heartfelt congratulations :). Not very many people end up making a living by doing what they love and I'm happy for you that you've found that! :)

Thanks, guys! You know, this job has been really fun for me. I am learning something new every day I go to the barn. I think I am getting the hang of the routine that goes on at the barn, and now my boss is training me to ride bareback. So far, I have progressed to the trot, which is pretty awesome. It has been a bit tough, balancing my time between the horses and Panera, but it is working out. He even gave me some homework; to try to read a chapter a night out of the book he gave me, and to take notes. Also, he wants me to start working out to develop my muscles better. I am getting to know each of the horse's personalities, and I love being able to spend time with them, whether it be grooming them, feeding them, or learning to train/ride bareback.

So far, the job is going pretty well, although due to the snowstorms, I wasn't able to go that much during Jan/Feb. Hopefully getting back on track with going at least three days a week again for this month, and future months. The girls can be good some days, and then a little antsy other days, probably due to the weather, lol. My brother is also starting to go with me to help out at the barn, which has been grand. I am happy that my boss likes the work my brother and I do around the place, and am looking forward to when we finally get sheep on the property. The sheep should be on the property by around August/September. As far as learning how to train/ride, that has been put aside too, due to the snow and weather, but now that all that crazy stuff has finally calmed down, we may be able to work on my skills with training and riding. It has been pretty busy, with balancing Panera and the barn, and I do come home tired a lot sometimes, but at the end of the day, it seems worth it. :)
