I'm thinking about getting a gaming desktop, since my laptop can't handle anything fun and I got paid yesterday. Anywho, I'm not looking to spend a ton of money, and the setup I'm thinking about getting is already kinda pushing it price-wise. I want to get something tiny, because if I get a desktop I'll be bringing it with me to college and I also like the idea of having a small yet powerful gaming computer.

Here's what I have so far:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116506
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813157311
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231428
Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130625
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136769
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817151093
Water cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835106188
DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827135204
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811112348

The subtotal comes out to $857.91, and I'd be fine with lowering that a little bit if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

But yeah, I think this desktop will be a very nice improvement over my ThinkPad, which has been kinda bugging me for a while and can barely play TF2 without overheating. I'd consider getting an even cheaper hard drive for now, because hard drive prices are still through the roof post-Thailand flood and I may get an SSD a little bit down the line once they come down in price. I think I may also just throw Windows 8 Release Preview on the desktop because I don't feel like paying full price for Windows 7.

Despite having a hate for touch screens, and many questions about windows8. I am kind of excited for windows8 ....maybe this will be when touchscreens stop being awful garbage.

That's a nifty little build you got there, however I would drop the water cooler. You're not buying a K series processor so the overclocks are not going to be as gaudy. A good air cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ would more than do the job. You could always just pirate Win7 if you really needed to. Certainly looks like it would be convenient for LAN parties and whatnot.

So, it turns out there isn't actually anywhere to mount the water cooler in this case. I wasted $63 for nothing. :-s

Anywho, the only change I made was getting a 560 SE instead of a 550 Ti. I finished building the computer today and I'm now installing Windows 8 Release Preview. :D This build was a total pain in the ass, but at least I somehow managed to fit everything (except for the water cooler) in.
