Bought a boat today. 115HP of raw power. This thing will flat out GO. Top speed is above 65mph (previously owner had it clocked at 63mph and it still wasn't redlined  ). Going to be using it for bass/muskie fishing. Just have to get it registered and titled now. Got one hell of a deal.

Nah. Either a Chevy 2500, Ford F150, or Jeep Liberty. I COULD tow it with my neon, it has a hitch!

I have six.

1 for towing
1 for the winter
1 as a rarity
1 I'm selling
1 for the girlfriend
1 for racing

Think I got "most" situations covered.....minus muddin'

Took the boat out today.

I've transformed from an ass man, to a bass man. Between myself and my buddy we caught 37 largemouth bass. Out of those, we had 10 that were over 5lbs each. Wacky rigging with a blue/black swirl YUM Dinger. I'm telling you, fish DRILL this bait. I beat my personal best bass at least 4 times today. My buddy broke his pole on a 6lb lunker. We just cut the broken part back to the next guide, and fished on. He caught another 10 fish on a "broken" rod with 8lb mono. I used an Abu Garcia Revo matched to a St. Croix flippin' stick spooled with 50lb braid and a 17lb fluorocarbon leader. Big bass through weeds........cake walk.

All released to grow and become bigger bass. Only caught a handful, maybe 5, less than 1lb. The fish were eating bluegill like mad, as we had two bass with bluegill half down their throat when we caught them!

New boat = win. We're entering a local bass tournament in mid-August. $100 to enter, top prize $2500. w00t

Anyone who wants to learn to fish this style, it's super easy. Use Senko style worms (I prefer YUM! Dingers) and Gamakatsu 3/0 wide gap octopus hooks. Bend the worm in half, hook through the center. It should form a U when dangled. Cast out, let it sink to the bottom. Now raise your rod tip 2-4' (depends on water depth). Let it free fall back down as you take up slack. Most hits come on the downfall, so watch your line. You'll either see it jump or start moving to the side. Reel down, set the hook HARD. You'll miss quite a few until you get the technique down. Using braided line makes this super easy as it has NO stretch, but is very visible under water. That's the reason for my fluorocarbon leader. With braid you can feel the bass "pecking" at the bait. Hell, you can feel bluegill nipping at it 50ft away. It's such an easy method to fish, and it's near impossible to fish wrong.

Or just use a net. Eh, though that's not "sporting", nor is it allowed for sportsmen to begin with. Then again I used to be an artisan fisherman (now there's a dying industry in this country), which was my first and one of my longest-standing lines of work. Probably explains why I'm not the nautical sort anymore. Something about standing knee-deep in herring and having ropes of slime pouring off of my hands turned out to be wearisome after a while, apparently.

Still, angling is a hell of a way to get dinner.

Whelp. I sold one of my cars (in the process of selling the other) to make room in my garage for the boat. She needs a new transom, so I'll be laying fiberglass for a week in August. It's fine for now, but will need replaced by end of summer.

$500 to do it myself, $2500 for a professional. Screw that!

Indeed. Plus ill know 100% for sure the boat is structurally sound and can handle the 115hp motor. And the new transom will last 20+ years.

You know, Muffin had a boat for a little while, and I was there when he got it. The old man who gave it to him gave him some wisdom: "There are two greatest days in a boat owner's life- The day he gets his boat, and the day he gets rid of it." Don't get twofootitis.

Also, nice job on those bass. They don't get nearly that big that easily up in these parts, so we don't always bother.
