Hey all, I don't know if its possible or not, but is there any way to run a VM on a USB? I mean like plug in the USB and have the VM boot up right inside a window, obviously I wouldn't be running a huge OS like Windows 7 or OSX, but something small like a linux distro that is ~300MB.

If this is possible, how?

thank ye kindly :)

You can run a VM, using a USB drive as the virtual disk, but I don't think you can run the entire VM on a USB drive itself unless you plan on installing the appropriate VM framework on each operating system you plan to run it on, which doesn't seem likely.

Virtual Machines are pretty OS-dependent, and many implementations require frameworks to be installed (helper services that give access to the host machine's devices, for example) on the host machine (several require root privileges). You can look into something called QEmu, which may work, but I haven't personally used it. But as for an OS-independent implementation, it is well beyond reasonable realms.
