Why can't they make drink containers out of something sturdy like metal or some kind of hardened resin. That would probably hold up to a straw better.

No, sir. The problem is the straw. It's too strong. They should make the straws from paper or weaker plastic. >:}

Veto. In my opinion the problem is the material of the "penetration spot", for lack of better word xD It is too strong, thus forcing the user to put too much pressure on it before it pops.^^
