There was a topic here regarding smoking, decided to make one about another bad habit: Gambling.

How many of you gamble here? I suppose many of you aren't old enough to get into a casino or buy lottery tickets, but I know a lot of underage people play poker at home, gamble online, etc.

Personally, the only form of gambling I indulge in from time to time is sports gambling. I put money on hockey games, makes them that much more interesting to watch and follow. So far I'm up a little bit, but not enough to live off of :P Never been a big fan of casinos, or lottery tickets/scratch tickets.

I know people who have made lots of money playing blackjack at the casino, even going as far as to win enough to finance a large portion of their post secondary education. But then again, not everyone is that good/lucky, I know some are down several thousand...

Does anyone here know anyone with a gambling addiction? I have a family member who lost tons of money on horse racing... it's getting better now, but it's hard to imagine how someone can gamble away thousands and thousands of dollars on some horses running around..

nah i don't gamble, closest i come to it is when i was 16-17 used to play the Slot Machines. Mainly because i knew that you could hold down a button to slow down the bonus option and select any thing you wanted from 6 nudges to moving your pay out to one tier higher. Used to end up walking out the place with a pocket full of lose change, so much so that i had to hold my pants from falling down.

My grandfather had a serious gambling addiction before he passed away, it was terrible.

I gamble fairly often, which is really stupid because I -never- win. Stupid Blackjack...

I like playing Blackjack and Poker. I've been in a couple Greek Life tournaments and gotten kinda far sometimes. I don't do/understand slots.

You can at least count cards with blackjack, tip the odds in your favor slightly.

I've only played slots a couple times, and yeah, I cant say i really like them.

I had a friend put a grand on the Miami Heat to win NBA championship last year, guess how that turned out :P

I open TF2 crates.

I also won about 2000 HKD in Macau playing Baccarat and Blackjack, at the small tables of course.

Also do Texas Hold'em at school tournaments and sometimes with the family or friends, but that's for fun and little money.

There's a casino right down the road from my place, and I go there occasionally for promotions and for free birthday money. I spent some of my own once, lost about 30 bucks, and probably will never spend my own cash gambling again. I'd say crane machines are another form of gambling, lol. I've lost quite a bit of money on them.

I like playing cards, but there are no human dealers at my casino. All there is is slots and video poker, neither of which are any real fun. My cousin had a serious gambling problem for a hot minute. His brother gave him several thousand dollars to hold for him (for whatever reason) and he went and lost everything. I had never seen this man cry before in my life, but he did that day. Watching him go through all the stages in rapid succession (denial, rationalization, realization, repentance...etc etc) was a train wreck. I lost a lot of respect for him because until then I had always thought he was a level headed guy in control of himself.

I get my gambling fix in video games, mostly. Where I win and lose fake cash that doesn't matter at all.

I absolutely hate gambling. I've done it a few times before, and by the end I feel stressed out even if I win.

I occasionally play poker and blackjack with my family. (I'm terrible at both.) And I don't plan to do any serious gambling in my future. Maybe some just for fun stuff with friends, but never in a casino or anything.

I've never been to a casino, but on occasion I enjoy decimating the pocket money, etc. of friends at cards. It's usually poker at this point; many people are reluctant to play blackjack with me these days. People will literally leave the room if I ask who's for blackjack...

Been to Las Vegas, was too young to even enter the casinos. :3

I would probably try my luck on special occasions, but it feels like it's a waste of money.. and just a greed challenge.

Having worked 6 months for a company in the online poker industry (not providing poker room itself, but things surrounding it), I started to play a bit. Prefer playing live rather than online though, and have played several times here at the casino in Gibraltar. It's more of a social thing for me than about the money. More or less +-0 over it. I don't play an awful lot and wouldn't risk a lot of money on it, just every now and then. :)

Though next weekend I'm actually going to Tallinn for a poker tournament after winning a package there worth $1400. :P

Would never play the "luck based" games like slots or roulette though. And while black jack might include a little more skill, I'd still avoid it at a casino. When playing against the house you know you will lose money in the long run. When playing against other people it's more down to skill in the long run, which at least for me makes a difference.

I don't typically gamble other than scratchcards. As bad as the odds can be, the system I have come up with usually nets me a minor profit. I'm about $250 in the green off of scratchcards in the past year alone.

As a summer intern, the company I worked for had monthly poker nights. I decided to join in on a couple, and both times I came away with the most cash. Buy-in was $5, and the two times I played, I ended the night with $22 and $26.

I do enjoy blackjack, though I don't actually go to the casinos for it.

Living in southern California, and having the Pala Indian Reservation 5 miles from my house, (which has about 5-6 casinos) plus all the other casinos in the area, I have about 20 Casinos I can go to around here. I usually dont gamble anymore though.. Lost alot, but also won alot, I won $250 off a penny slot one time.

Times are too hard though for me to be throwing money away like that for entertainment. I have found much cheaper ways to entertain myself.

I used to have a gambling problem. The most I'll do now when I actually go is $5 blackjacks here and there but very seldom at that.

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. It used to be that any day I got a tip while working, I'd spend $1 from it on a scratch card before heading home.
Only ever won free tickets, gave up that habit pretty quick.

That's why I never do slots or anything. Poker is a very good social game, in that it focuses more about manipulation and understanding your opponent than any cards.
