I saw a picture of Kony yesterday on a website. I was wondering who he was. This video helped explaining, and it brought back memories of a documentary that I saw about the situation in Uganda, back when I went to church. I think that this is a smart idea, if enough people are involved with spreading the word.

Fuzzy Bunny that. too much work, besides i've done my part... ive created AWARENESS. and that alone makes me a Fuzzy Bunny hero! WAKE THE Fuzzy Bunny UP SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVISTS. Problems arent solved via tweets and reposts and spam... if anything, im curious to see the energy bill wasted on it.

Well really the problem with this kind of activism is that nobody (including the activists) usually knows what the hell they're supposed to do once awareness is raised and it's a known issue. Then again, people are lazy, and it's not like Western Society has managed to magically undo some of the utter hells on earth in other parts of the African continent before this came along... Most people, really, and truly, do not care. If they did, Fuzzy Bunny like what this campaign is talking about wouldn't happen to begin with. Unfortunate fact of the world...

This is also an oversimplified issue; even Tim Buckley said that people should do some damned research.

Even though it is quite annoying, it's amazing how fast this thing spread. I first saw the video at 9am yesterday with 52k views and by 6pm it was at around 15 million. It's now 12pm the next day and it's at 40 million views.

Honestly I've never seen a meme or video's popularity expand this fast.

Honestly I don't really care about Joseph Kony. He is after all only one individual, and while stopping him will do some good, it's not going to magically solve every problem in Africa.

I'm supporting this effort because I'm interested to see just how far it can go. I think it would be inspiring to see the government taking action because the people asked for it, which is something we don't witness very often these days.

Also it's prettymuch just a scam to gain public support for America moving into Africa to take advantage of their newly-found oilfields.

The hour-long documentary was made in 2004, released in 2006 and then cut into the shorter version we see today. It couldn't be more outdated. Kony went into hiding in 2006 and hasn't been active since, all the atrocities described in the video are things of the past. Obviously this doesn't mean he shouldn't be arrested but he's hardly a threat anymore. He's just a hermit much like Osama Bin Laden was for so many years. Much like Osama he's also the new figurehead that all of America's hate is being directed at.

As much as I don't like these generalizations, it wouldn't surprise me .

If the government agrees to send troops there without needing much encouragement from the KONY 2012 movement, then that would raise my suspicion.

Did you find that hour long 2004 video?

The oilfield thing is just pure speculation.

Other than that, however, well... A huge mass-publicised sob story being a load of attention-seeking horse Fuzzy Bunny? How very unusual...

And to think my scepticism has caused innumerable people to think I'm a dick.

I've looked but can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet. It should be noted it was made in 2004-2005 and then released in 2006. Back then youtube was barely popular so if it was online at all it would've been embedded on a former version of the invisible children site or something like that. They probably just cut out the chaff to make the documentary more watchable.

Eadwulf wrote:

You have a point here, however there are two crucial oil discoveries in Uganda that should be considered along with their timings. Back in 2006 when the documentary was first released Tullow Oil made 5 oil discoveries in Uganda and since then have been working on ways to extract them. Now only a few weeks ago in late February they made another discovery in the area as well as selling off most of their Ugandan oil contracts to multinational corporations that the US could possibly have a hand in.

So in a way you're right, we're just working off speculation here. However the actions that the US takes in the coming year will make their motives clear.

Let them continue to kill each other. Eventually they'll just (hopefully) wipe the continent clean. No more "food for Africa" programs, TV ads, etc. All you do is give them enough energy to procreate more....

Let the oil driven nations kill each other off and I'll be fine with the outcome.

I'm serious. All these ads do is make us (well, not me, but general populations) feel sorry for these people when we have nearly the same problems here. Children starving, we got it. Violent crime? Got that too. Poor leadership? Bingo. Keep the money where it belongs, in your own damn country. Fix your own home before trying to fix an unfixable country. Do you seriously believe we can fix half of Africa and most of the Middle East?

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

If we supposedly have similar problems here, then why don't I feel sorry for American kids?

You do have a point, the USA is a Fuzzy Bunny hole. I'm sure the leaders receiving the millions of dollars in foreign aid from the USA don't have the same viewpoint as me though.
