I don't have any sort of links or anything, but I distinctly recall articles with scientists talking about finding seashells on certain mountaintops that couldn't have occurred without the Great Flood, for one.

Without knowing which mountain you are referring, I can't say for certainty. But some mountains were raised from the sea millions years ago through earth's tectonic movements. So it is not impossible to find seashells on certain mountaintops.

Well, just to add more info to the abiogenesis discussion, I recently read an article in New Scientist that showed evidence that underwater thermal vents, where life is thought to have originated due to high nutrient content and temperatures, also generated electric currents. And, as anyone who's seen Frankenstein's Monster knows, how do you create life? With lightning.

Mt Everest was formed when the Indo-Australian Plate collided with the Eurasian Plate 70 million years ago, the region that is the Himalayas was at that time known as the Tethys Ocean. So Mt Everest was grown out of the ocean 70 million years ago, finding seashells that dates back to that period would not be surprising, finding seashells from a more recent time would be interesting.

Again this is the weakest argument you could possibly use.

Besides, the bible says Jesus climbed a mountain and looked at the four corners of the world. Last I checked there's no corners on a sphere.

That's petitio principii. You're using passages from the Bible itself as proof that the Bible is correct.

Anyone else appreciate the irony of this statement in this topic

"Again this is the weakest argument you could possibly use."

Since the topic initially started with a list of ten fallacies?

good thing it wasn't an arguement. Zizi asked which mountain top they had been found on so i told her. and ya it brings us back to the how old is the earth arguement which like i stated earlier is just argueing in circles. Im not posting on here to debate i was simply letting zizi know which mountain top its on.

What I mean by that is that there are more than plenty of Christians who don't go around saying that the earth is as old as the bible says it is and other such nonsense. I personally only take the bible as a book of moral standards and the stories examples of such.

We don't seek out argument to force feed people our religious views. Instead we rely on our faith that life is happening and maybe, just maybe, there is something beyond it. I keep my faith every day hoping that if I die today there may be something beyond instead of nothing.

What was the need for assuming I was being arrogant?

That's like me saying, "don't worry, not all of us are like Mikeboy, he believes in invisible men in the sky." Is that fair to you?

First off wolff has done nothing but use the christian religion as flame bait which I completely disagree with and thought "hmm maybe he isn't the greatest representative of my religion."
I in no way came off arrogant but your response is nothing more than trying to bait me into argument. Congratulations your appeal to my emotions struck home and nothing has been contributed to this debate.

Not only did you come off as arrogant the first time, you're continuing to make yourself look like a pretentious douchebag.

That's cool. Let me put it this way then.

The reason I posted at all was to inform people that the standard being set in the debate for the religious side was not in fact the most widely accepted . See wolff had turned the debate into the exact debate that leads other Christians away from debates about their religion. If me getting tired of hearing the same crap over and over again about religion and responding such is being arrogant and pretentious then screw me. I know the comment was short but it had a point. Not everyone shares the same views. Here's a good example, who do reporters seek out after a tornado? They don't seek anyone out is the answer. The people that go to them are the absolute nuttiest people in the whole town, so they can get their 15 minutes. That's exactly what we get when we debate religion. The people who want the attention. We give it to them when we bite back. Then all that people ever see of the debate is the irrational argument.

Well if this is your religious view then I guess it is perfectly fine with me.

Well, I, for one, am well willing to debate Christian philosophy. For example, one of my favorite topics is that of the dynamic between Lucifer and God.
(Note: obviously, for this discussion I think that we can debate the contents of the Bible the same way we can discuss any other work of fiction.)
I find that Lucifer (which, in Latin, literally translates into "bringer of light" or "morning star") is rather similar to Prometheus from Greek mythology. I actually see Lucifer as the good guy and God as an omnipotent (or is he?) Big Brother. God created the angels and archangels as absolute servants, incapable of questioning his rule, and created humans as dumb and naive as newborns, forced to remain so for eternity. However, Lucifer broke his chains of servitude and lead a revolution against God, and, when he failed and was banished, managed to gain a victory by granting humanity knowledge, much in the same way Prometheus gave humanity the gift of fire and culture, elevating them from animals; for that, Zeus chained him to a rock and had an eagle eat his liver out every day. Any thoughts?
