What's everyone think about the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington?

For those that haven't heard of it

Does this mean everyone will finally shut up about 420 blaze erry day? Because that's the only argument I'd support for legalising it.

It is a smart idea to an extent. It will generate income for the states that do legalize marijuana. Texas should do that but it is such a conservative state.

I think it's a good idea. Ever look at how much is spent on "The War on Drugs"? Now imagine that money spent elsewhere, like on public education or community development projects. Look at all these people in jail for simple possession, it cost more to house them then the fines levied against them! In other words, we are losing money.

Legalizing it will provide a CRAP LOAD of tax income to local, state, and federal levels. I know a lot of pothead friends, even though I've never smoked before, and they are willing to pay a huge tax just to get legal weed.

Now I have no problems with jailing traffickers of weed. Keep sales to state approved stores ONLY. Buy/sell it outside the store, you're still busted and just pay a heavy fine, no jail. The 21 age limit is fantastic as well. I can see Ohio legalizing it by 2020.

Exactly the government would benefit from it as much as the potheads. I don't do any type of drug or plan on it, but it would greatly help out the economy besides them just buying/selling and then wasting OUR money for jails/prisons etc.

I also agree that the government will benefit from legalizing it. It will definitely bring a lot of tax income, then the government can use that money on public education, health care, etc. It is also a smart move to make it so that a person has to be twenty one or older in order to buy it.

I don't see why marijuana is so bad, but it is about time. Take a look at Netherlands who made it legal way back in the 70's, 40 years later and there doing fine in fact it increased tourism.

I could see Americans going to the state just for that fact like people do with Amsterdam, If Colorado becomes a hub for marijuana tourism, demand at marijuana stores would not only increase, but those tourists would also spend money on hotels, restaurants and rental cars ect

In California, it won't have as beneficial of an effect, because most of the weed is grown by drug cartels who won't be too keen on taxes. They'll get pretty violent with people who grow it legally, methinks.

In addition, California is inefficiently run. Most of that tax money would go into pockets.

Third thing: I get migraines from the smell of the stuff. If it's legal to smoke in public, then I'm kinda screwed. I'd have to move, it's that bad.

It wouldn't ever be legal to smoke in public, at least in Washington.

It would probably be way more strict than alcohol and smoking cigarettes, since you know, second hand high and Fuzzy Bunny.

People will abuse it legal or not. Just legally they have an excuse to do it around non-smokers as well.

It would help the economy to legalize it because people would pay the taxes for that just like they do for alcohol and cigarettes. It's just "bad" for the people within the economy just like the others.

I would love to see it legalized and sold in a way similar to Amsterdam. Walking into a café and asking for different strains of marijuana off a menu without any chance of prosecution is a really weird, yet relieving feeling.

The way I see it is, currently in these illegal markets people are being sold marijuana that isn't necessarily good quality, has passed through many hands and could be growing mould and/or harbouring bacteria. I for one would be more than willing to shell out a few more dollars for well grown, quality marijuana that I can be sure is free of contaminants.

Don't know if this is allowed so feel free to remove it if its not, but the most expensive gram of marijuana I bought in Amsterdam cost no more than $20, double what one would pay around my parts but its worth it knowing that care has been taken while growing, and the quality is through the roof.

Also it seemed like a gram in Amsterdam turned out to be way more than a gram here. There a gram would fill a king size paper, here a gram fills a regular paper, which I bet has something to do with the growing process.

I was reading somewhere that if marijuana was legalized the price could be a few bucks per ounce. Which is apparently around the cost of other plant materials. Obviously this won't happen though. It's going to be taxed.

Quality is a good factor is legalizing it, but there wil still be those people that care more about quantity than quality and those will most likely pay more for more. People will do anything for what they are addicted to.

Probably due to the fact that people want more for what they are producing. If they produce efficient amount they could afford to have a larger portion and vice versa.

The price may drop some, but not much and the tax wouldn't be sufficient for the amount people buy.
