Forgive me for being a fan of this long running British series but this is my favorite show. I'll try to be a short as possible so please be patience and induldge me.
Doctor Who first aired on Nov. 23, 1963 with the lead spot portrayed by William Hartnell. The series lasted until 1989 and nothing new was seen until the TV movie in 1996. The series recieved new life in 2005 when it returned to the air and continues today stronger then ever in popularity.
Whle I know many of you may not be interested in the classic run of the show from 1963-89, I do believe you should give it a look, it is well worth the time. Yes the special effect are cheap but it was a low budget show. How low budget, well back in 1963 to pay for 1 episode they had a 2300 british pound budget to pay for everything (actors, scripts, sets, costumes,etc...) Keep that in mind before you bash the show for its cheap look.
One of the greatest tragedies in the shows history is the 108 missing episodes. From Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_who_missing_episodes Quote:
The Doctor Who missing episodes are the instalments of the long-running British science-fiction television programme Doctor Who that have no known film or videotape copies. They were wiped (or "junked") by the BBC during the 1960s and 1970s for economic and space-saving reasons. There are 27 incomplete Doctor Who serials, with 108 of 253 episodes from the first six years of the programme missing. Many more were thought to be lost until copies were recovered from various sources, mostly overseas broadcasters.
Fortunately we have the audio of the lost episodes thanks to fans.
Quote:
Doctor Who is unique in that all of its missing episodes survive in audio form, recorded off-air by fans at home. Stills or short video clips have been found for several missing episodes.
The show also has many photos taken by John Cura and some can be seen here:
http://tragicalhistorytour.com/?page_id=320Thanks to the audio and photos with some surviving fragments of film from the edit rooms of various locations, we have had some reconstructions created by fans of the show. One fan, here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/johnnyfanboy has worked hard to bring these stories back to life visually for fans such as myself. While a photo snap reconstruction may not be the best way to see this lost story, I do love the time and effort he has gone to to bring these stroies back to life.
His latest Recon is the Power of the Daleks. The first story of the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton, Power of the Daleks is perhaps one of the greatest Dalek stories ever done and I mourn its loss. I hope someday they may animate this missing masterpiece but until they do, all we have is recons, audiobooks, and books of it. I hope you will watch the recon and more importantly, please send johnnyfanboy a thank you if you enjoyed his recon. He does them outt of love for the show and nothing else.
Links to the majority of the recon will be in the next post since I wrote so much in this one. Hope you will enjoy this.
PS: He includes a recap from the previous episode with the first regeneration and a segment about how the Daleks ended up on the planet.
