Some demonstrators are planning to occupy retailers on Black Friday to protest "the business that are in the pockets of Wall Street."

Organizers are encouraging consumers to either occupy or boycott retailers that are publicly traded, according to the Stop Black Friday website.

The goal of the movement is to impact the profits of major corporations this holiday season.

"The idea is simple, hit the corporations that corrupt and control American politics where it hurts, their profits, " states the Occupy Black Friday Facebook page.

A few of the retailers the protesters plan on targeting include Neiman Marcus, Amazon and Wal-Mart.

Their website states the following:

"Keep in mind that we are not occupying small businesses or hardworking people—we must make a distinction between the businesses that are in the pockets of Wall Street and the businesses that serve our local communities.

We are NOT anti-capitalist. Just anti-crapitalist.

Below is a shortlist for publicly traded large businesses to Occupy or to boycott on Black Friday. Luckily, most of them don't have good presents anyway. If you want to see the top 100 retail businesses for 2010 to boycott, click here.

On Black Friday, Occupy or boycott:

- Abercrombie & Fitch [ANF 45.85 -0.62 (-1.33%) ]
- Amazon.com (yes, we have to stay away from Amazon, too!) [AMZN 192.34 3.09 (+1.63%) ]
- AT&T Wireless [ATT 27.04 0.15 (+0.56%) ]
- Burlington Coat Factory

- Dick's Sporting Goods (I was surprised, too!) [DSG-FF 28.935 0.055 (+0.19%) ]
- Dollar Tree [DLTR 77.09 1.40 (+1.85%) ]
- The Home Depot [HD 37.10 0.04 (+0.11%) ]
- Neiman Marcus

- OfficeMax [OMX 4.49 0.09 (+2.05%) ]
- Toys R'Us [JPM 29.41 -0.50 (-1.67%) ]
- Verizon Wireless [VZN 94.30 -0.40 (-0.42%) ]
- Wal-Mart [WMT 56.85 0.19 (+0.34%) ]
Solidarity!"

This is not the first time the demonstrators have taken action against corporations by using their money as weapon for change.

On Nov. 5th many demonstrators participated in "Bank Transfer Day" and moved their money from banks to credit unions.

HAHAHA. The first, I love. The second, people live there. Not likely to effect anything.

Occupiers should just go get a job and perhaps a life :awesome:

Once upon a time ago there was a person who was literally trampled to death by the insane mobs of Black Friday shoppers. May god rest his / her soul, but I can not help but wonder. Is there no fear in these groups that they'll just be run over in the same way?

Very rarely do I agree with Snake's interpretation of political / economic events, but... "Dis gon b gud".

The best quote I've heard about these kids.

"If these occupy___ protestors keep trying to slow commerce, where do they expect the tax money to come from to pay for the parks they're filling up?"

Yeah... I would love to see this! Black Friday is still going to be one crazy day, where crazy shoppers get their shopping on. I would have to agree with the gifs. xD

That's actually a completely misrepresented event, I recently learned from reading an article on Cracked...it also makes the term "doorbuster" incredibly distasteful.

Anywho, the story was that a mob of shoppers was pushing against the closed/locked double doors of a store...perhaps it was walmart, but I cba to check. They apparently started to bow inwards so some staff pushed back to keep them from breaking. One of the doors broke, and a worker was crushed beneath it. shoulda known that was gonna be a bad idea. *shrug*

As per the topic at hand, the .gifs were priceless. And I don't care about corporate greed or these goddamn idiots, I'm getting my christmas shop on tomorrow night/Friday. There are many kids at my university who would probably support this, and lemme tell you, if any of them get in my way to finding epic deals, I will be handing out ass kickings like stocking stuffers.

Haha...there was some really insane raging on facebook, of course some people were accusing the occupy movement of this, and others were defending the movement saying it wasn't them. It was possibly one of the more intense internet arguments I've seen, as even teachers from my university were getting involved.

I was baffled to find this, I live in Marquette, MI; which is a little city of about 20,000 people. I couldn't believe this kind of thing could or would happen here...my girlfriend went out to finish some shopping and came back and told me she couldn't get into most stores she wanted to go to as they were closed due to the threats.
