I've decided to leave the community to its current path.

As much as it pains me to say it.

Chat has gone its way.
I try to sit in there waiting for people to visit seeing that soooomebody is in there. But it's a lot of waiting.

I think part of the issue is that it's not as convenient. In the old days, RV chat was easy, simple, it served as a common ground that we could get on and chat while playing... GASP... runescape. But now, everyone has skype and RV chat isn't as easy to leave open. It's a little big, doesn't really tell you when people are on... not really easier than something else. So I proposed we could set up a common skype room or something. It's more secure than IRC or whatever. And I'd wager almost everyone has it. And you can come and go quite easily I think.

The chat is also one stipulation that set a harsh requirement on our bandwidth and whatnot. So dropping it in favor of a cheaper option could be beneficial to our finding cheaper hosting options.

The Skype "room" could also help bring back old members into the fold that wandered off and still have skype. That way they could remain part of OUR community while moving beyond the old Runevillage name.

I also agree with integrating the forums better.
World of Tanks does this in spades.

Anything they post on the website will have something at the bottom
"Comment on this"

but it doesn't lead to comments. It leads to the forums, the forums then link directly to the article!
This creates a link between the two. Thus linking the community to the main page.

To keep a main site interesting, you basically just need new content weekly or fairly often. Doesn't need to be spectacular, but just new. Shows that we're still alive. We don't have a game we made like world of tanks, but we can come up with stuff.

Either way, better linking to the forums will better link the site to the forums and vice versa.

Demon, correct me if I'm wrong... but are you essentially suggesting the option of moving our community to a new site, owned and operated by you?

In essence, it would end up that way. The alternative is to let the site die as planned and the community hopefully stick together through alternative means.

If you oppose, why not make some changes to the site yourself? You've opposed nearly all of these options I've outlined since I've known you. o.-

Actually the popular alternative is to keep the site around as a small, basic forum with far less financial and maintenance obligations.

If you want to create your own site then you're more than welcome to do that, but the Global Announcement section is reserved for RuneVillage announcements, not for your own initiatives.

Well, statistically speaking, slightly more than a giant suckusaur. A dire one.

I dont understand the point if its not runevillage anymore. There are plenty of existing communities we could move to if we wanted to, whats the point in building a new one?

I would like it if we just kept this board, but a new one will be welcome for those who are interested in also going on it

I see no problems in people starting up new sites and encouraging RVers (who are interested) to join. Though i still don't think RV should just be axed for a new site. If anyone wants to put in effort to create a new site, with new content and a fresh new goal, i'm sure at least some RVer's will join you, but from personal experience, it takes a hell of a lot to even get a new community started, let alone rejuvenate an old one.

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

Huh. I don't understand what happened here since you deleted your original post, but from the way this all sounds, you're basically doing the same thing Frogger tried to do many years ago. It didn't work then, either.

Apple hit the nail on the head. What you've gotta realize is that we all value having grown up on RuneVillage. If RV is going to die, then RV is going to die, and as adults (for we have grown up, correct?) we have to learn to move on. Those that want to stay connected will find ways to do so.

(But challenging the owner of the site and making your own global announcements behind his back is way not cool, man. Not even Frogger did the second one.)

I didn't make a global - I don't have that power. I don't know who did that.

Personally, I think it's a good idea to let the village die, rather than keep it going. We can, on the other hand, have a spiritual successor some time in the future.

To clarify, the original intent was not to 'take away' people from the village and create a branch off. Too many people have tried that and failed only hurting the site further. My intent was to show Jack that his narrow view on the site and its development potential is flawed. In all the time i've known him, he has very rarely accepted any changes from something he decided on. I don't know if it is pride of what he calls it, but it simply carries the same sense of movement, or lack thereof, that all past management has shown. No action or follow through. Thus, the site has become what it is. The idea was to show there are ways to fix the site. I only mentioned a rebranding because so many people had supported it.
