Since RuneVillage opened its gates in 2002, its villagers have gone through incredible feats to gather and organize data about JaGeX Ltd.’s RuneScape in order to provide the most accurate, thorough guides. Its founders envisioned a family-oriented site where all could feel comfortable and safe while playing a mutually enjoyed game. At the time, this seemed to be a fascinating way to bring a community together and share simple tips and information about the game to enhance game play in a way which JaGeX Ltd. had not yet found the time or energy to provide. As such, the community of villagers began to grow and the data steadily accumulated in Guides and Databases compiled by its users volunteering their own time to build.

However, as the years went by and the user-base which had previously played RuneScape with a childish fervor aged and were introduced to the working world, the steam which had once powered the village’s behind-the-scenes team grew sparse and the content flow slowed steadily until 2008. A rumor was stirred among the community about a revision of the site taking place, dubbed RuneVillage 2.0 in which the dreams of the founders were to be met with catchy new sights and much more content in a convenient, easy-to-read manner not yet seen in any fan sites. Yet even as the steam flowed steadily with a renewed effort as new staff were brought in and occasional enthusiasm blown into the community through ‘teasers’ and the like, the project soon fell into the same decline RuneVillage 1.0 had seen.

Despite this, we’re finally ready to open the gates to the beginnings of RuneVillage 2.0 for the community and let it grow with us through these hard times. While we would have preferred to release a fully furnished site with flashy images and wet data fresh off the press, due to recent occurrences this is no longer entirely possible. As some may know, RuneVillage was issued a Copyright notice from JaGeX Ltd. in relation to RuneScape. Within this notice, the community was instructed to remove the content displaying in-game images as these were the property of JaGeX Ltd., RuneScape’s owners.

Therefore, RuneVillage 2.0 is being released without RuneScape guides or databases until such a time when JaGeX Ltd. decides to make their content open to us again. However, this comes in the light of a recent community decision to expand into other games, taking a generalized gaming course and thereby requiring a new setup of how our content is managed and displayed. With that in mind, the community leaders have decided to use this opportunity to take the first step in a new direction with the release of RuneVillage 2.0 by allowing the site to grow with the community as we did so many years ago when the village was only a pile of boards and nails.

As a community, RuneVillage is stronger now than ever in these strange times, but you’re all invited to join us in taking a fresh breath on the other side of the hill where RuneVillage 2.0 is steadily being established.

RV 2.0 is looking great, thanks for the hard work guys. I do hope that Runevillage still keeps backup copies of all the past Runescape guides, databases, Classic etc. for archives even though we cant display it till further notice and also to preserve the hard works of those contributors. And what on earth is Jagex thinking by issuing the copyright notice to the Village while the others fansites can still display their contents, this is so crap, surely there is some form of legal way around this ??

No content from our past has been lost and may very well be added back in the future given JaGeX doesn't push another power-trip over on us.

But rest assured no efforts have been wasted by any guide-writer, database-editor, or general Contributors. We still have this information in reserve pending our decision on how next to move forward.

Looks nice, but could being a bit more consistent with the forum theme. Specifically the quick links bar....

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

That's the kind of suggestions we've needed from the Web Team.

Edit: Changed. Thanks for the input. :^_^:

Shiny. :D
Great job guys!

Although it sucks we had to remove our guides, a lot of people really worked hard on 'em.

Looking sweet! Glad to see it's finally been released with the visions of the team. :)

Well done, Website Team!!

I'll probably flood the Submissions forum with tiny things one of these days to help make it look even better. 8) In the meantime, one suggestion; the parser for the Community News box doesn't notice line breaks, so words just run into each other. Perhaps a double-space like it were any other sentence?

Gotta be honest, it's extremely underwhelming in comparison to the "full release" we all worked our asses off on. I suppose it's nice to see at least part of RV2 be officially released though, so well done to those of you who sorted together this "lite" release.

Also, I was unaware that Jagex is disallowing us use of ingame images or guides. That pisses me the Fuzzy Bunny off, no two ways about it. RV was founded by a sex offender, big deal. He stepped down from his position as admin almost immediately once it came to light. He's not a factor anymore. But that one little thing is supposed to allow Jagex to discredit, restrict, and flat out deny the countless hours' work of villagers over the span of 8+ years?

It hasn't been said enough, and I want to make sure it comes from my mouth at least once;

Fuzzy Bunny. YOU. JAGEX.

I've been trying to decide if I should renew my RuneScape membership for the past week. This revelation does it for me - I officially quit RuneScape. I'm finished with my Player Moderator status as well; Jagex can take my crown and go to Hell. I know they won't notice or care, but it's one more veteran to the list of loyal players they've managed to drive away, and I can take some form of solace in that.

I cannot accurately describe to what degree I take Jagex's actions personally, but holy Fuzzy Bunny am I done with that company and anything it produces henceforth.

Edit:
Player Moderator Resignation (1500 character limit) wrote:
I would like to resign as a Pmod. I will explain why, and perhaps the Jmod who reads this can pass it on to whichever department may care.

I am a veteran player of over 8 years and 6755 hours of playtime. I've been a member for the majority of that time, and a Pmod for years. As far as loyal players go, I've been one of the most. More importantly, I've been a part of the fansite RuneVillage since 2004, with countless hours of effort put into guides for their site.

It was discovered that RuneVillage's founder, Thomas Watson, is a sex offender. Jagex removed RV's Gold-level Support due to this. After our community got over the shock, we agreed that Jagex was right in their decision, but felt that it was handled poorly by not trying to resolve it in private.

Watson stepped down as Site Admin and gave ownership to the staff, leaving our community and the site. He has not shown any sign of himself since then, and our new leadership was hopeful to regain our Gold Support with him gone. But we soon found out that this wouldn't be the case, with Jagex only threatening copywrite lawsuits unless we removed every RS image (and in relation, our guides) from RV.

This is unacceptable. Watson is no longer a part of RuneVillage, and yet the community of RV is being devalued, restrained, and forsaken. There are many veterans like me who have only played RS for so long because of RV, and yet all of our hard work is now worthless.

I want nothing more to do with this game or this company.
