Hey there!

Today we release our connection with RuneScape Radio on our website. RuneScape Radio is an online radio service that tries to focus on the RuneScape players. Their motto is "We play everything", which means they play all sorts of music, usually depending on which DJ is playing. They are trying to expand to more and more fansites and we think this may prove to be interesting for you guys.

On the top right corner of every page on the site, you're able to see which song is currently playing, as well as a link to the radio page, where you can listen to the radio station and discuss the current music playing in a shoutbox.

For those interested: you can also apply to become a DJ on the radio station if you'd want to. A bit of knowledge of how SHOUTcast works is of course an advantage.

Is there any reason this is beneficial over something like Pandora/Last.fm, or was this established just because?

I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy, but it just seems like an opportunity for teenage kids to hop on the site as a DJ and play their obscure Norwegian metal band that no one really cares about.

For your first part Pandora or Last.fm are both 24/7 radio and they do not pay attention to their listeners. The major Difference is we could have RuneScape Related talkshows or ingame events and have it be featured on the radio for example "2011 RuneScape Gathering" we will have a few DJs on a skype call getting famous Rs players to call in and interview them along with commandeering the event. We would also have our own events and whatnot the possibility are endless.

For your second part not all of our DJs are Teenagers because RuneScape players differ from many ages.

For your third part, that person is a DJ but isn't it states clearly that only people with a gold star near their name is a DJ that person was breaking our rules by making their name be one of our DJs, future moderation will change this.

A couple people have posted that they were interested in becoming a DJ, there is no garentee that you will be accepted and once you do we will have a trial peroid which will test if you are able to continue as a DJ from that you will be chosen rather or not you will be allowed to stay as a DJ.

I would love to apply for being a DJ, i am very open minded when it comes to music, i like everything from the latest hits on the radio to Irish punk rock! I have used shoutcast before and i feel that I would be very suited for the Job!

Sooo wait. This isn't a RuneVillage-run feature? I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything about this. (I realize that Glode's post explained this now that I've read it again - I was just waking up when I skimmed over it the first time).

Why exactly are we hooking you guys up to our site? Seems awful intrusive considering you haven't even made much of a presence here. Not to be rude, but this just seems very sudden and... well, confusing. And considering that 2/5 of your posts here are in concerns to your radio site, it kind of strikes me as you being here for business rather than pleasure.

I don't mean to sound hostile or anything, I just can't really say that I approve of some other site coming in and plastering their name on every page of RuneVillage. I'd be in favor of a RV Radio, but this kind of bugs me - Especially considering that we can't even moderate the content being played on the radio. I can already imagine the DJs playing songs that drop the F-bomb, which is obviously not suitable for RV.

This is going to bomb, just saying.

What? That's exactly the opposite of Pandora and Last.fm. It's all user controlled so they play what the user inputs and similar artists. As for your second part, I've been apart of the Runescape community for about 7 years and seen many attempts at this all which have tanked. But I do wish you luck and thank you for plugging yourself on my forum for which you've never been apart of.

As others have stated, you have no interest in the forum itself. Don't you need some sort of license to play copyrighted songs anyway? I recall a radio attempt awhile back that was shot down for this very reason.
