Recently, I have been thinking about Runevillage and the activity. Just like most users, I presume, I see how there is not a lot of activity here as before. It's a bummer to see that a lot of people just don't want to be here anymore.

But there is a lot of people who might possibly be looking for an awesome forum to be a part of. Well if that's the case, why not make a Runevillage Advertising group?

What I mean by this. This would be a group of Villagers that are strong supporters or Runevillage, who would want to spread the word of Runevillage. This could be down in many different ways. This could be done by posting on Runescape forums, talking about RV in Runescape, making videos, and a lot of other ways.

If we make a group, a lot of this can be done with the group leader's permission or whoever would be in charge. And of course, if this goes through, we will think of rules for the group.

Thoughts?

I would advise against advertising RV on other fansites; Both out of respect to them, and so that we don't get a bad rap among the fansite community.

Making videos would be a great idea, and one that's been suggested in the past.

As far as advertising in-game goes, we can't go around shouting "Go to RuneVillage for guides!" or anything like that - While we may be a Jagex approved fansite, that's still advertising which is against the rules.

We can, however, talk about it in-game - So if you see somebody asking for help on a quest or something, you can mention "RuneVillage has a quest guide for that" or something along those lines.

So really, if you want to "advertise" ingame, just make casual mentions of RuneVillage when appropriate.

When it comes to Runevillage, of course we can't just advertise on someone's site without permission...same with ingame and stuff.
But when it comes to possibly advertising RV Army, then we could advertise on other sites, if allowed, for clan recruitment or something.

Simple idea. Organize a day where Villagers meet up in a populated world in Lumbridge. Give away free armor and weapons, and tell them it's all donated from the Village. Encourage them to check our our forums and Clan Chat.

In fact I've done stuff like this before... But I never told people about RV when I've did it. I'm currently trying to organize another event like this and I'd love to get the rest of the village behind it.

I've known RVET to host fun events. I haven't seen an event like so to recruit people to RV.

I quite like the idea of getting a group together to pretty much market RV to RS. We could get approval from jagex to do an event (it seems they've been itching to help fansites). If it gets big enough we could even make it an annual thing. It's very true that activity has dwindled over the past couple years and there HAS to be a way to fix that. A group to brainstorm ideas could be fantastic.

I'd really like for the Urban Dictionary definition of RV to change.

The annual giant RV Christmas drops that amassed huge donations were a big hit for site advertisement, however those died with the RWT update. There may be a change soon though...

Nothing against you Tanks - I know from working with you as a member of the staff and the RVET that you're a hard worker and take your job very seriously - but personally I think we should give SanityCore a chance to lead this initiative. He seems very eager to give this a shot, and has some pretty neat ideas.

It would be a group effort, like most things around here - so if anyone else out there has some ideas they'd like to try, or just want to help out in some way, then they're more than welcome to join the group. But in terms of leadership, organization, planning, structuring, etc. I think that responsibility should go to SanityCore, if he's confident that he can handle it all.

That's if hiker approves this new group, though! Remember, this would require a subtle approach in the form of YouTube vids, special recruitment events, etc. Really, anything to put our name out there and get people to want to join, but in a way that is respectful to RS and the rest of the fansite community. As long as that balance is maintained, there shouldn't be any problems.

I hate to say this, but we really need to finish 2.0. If we expect to keep up with other sites we MUST have a look that competes. This includes maps, guides, and the like.

The only recommendation I have for the group is to limit the number of people involved. It's never helpful to have a ton of people all shouting the same idea over and over again. It would be much better off if when we do need input from the village as a whole we just post it in Lumbridge Lounge.

I'm more than down with helping. I've recently left a marketing job to go back to school so I do have some idea on what is needed to get your products word out. Hopefully Hiker likes the idea as much as we do.

While I agree fully, Mike, there's a problem. Lack of people willing to help out. We don't have enough Coders for 2.0, we don't have enough people writing Guides. We lack people willing to put in time and effort to make everything go quicker and speed up. If we had a team of coders working on 2.0, and people constantly writing guides, we'd be in great shape. What we have now works, it's just not enough.

Understood, but we should be able to find a way to get people interested in helping out with getting things going. I witnessed something about two years ago. I asked to help with the guides team and was completely ignored. I sent PMs to all the leaders and got nothing in return. This was if you remember when we were pushing the "help the village join the teams" mantra. I don't know if it was a personal thing, but we really shouldn't put anyone away from helping out with the village. I can more than guarantee from my experience in scouting that if someone asks what they can help with you give them something to do and they stay around. If we can't find a place for someone immediately then we can at least move them around to someplace where they do work and let them do their thing.

Maybe this group idea could work in our favor in that aspect. Get interest sparked in people that may have lost it. I know I've gotten a bit more active with the prospect of getting things moving again.

Edit: Is it also taboo to ask another fansite for help? I know when our scout camp had trouble with retention of staff we asked other camps around us what they were doing to keep people on board. We could even ask them if they have a coder that can give us a hand with 2.0. Everyone likes extra work items in their portfolio.

Good job guys keep that discussion going strong. This is probably the bane of my existence here. Instead of saying that something will never happen maybe we should ask. How hard is it to ask? And yes thyker I did do that, why? Because it's not been talked about for a while, and it's really something that we promoted heavily and people looked forward to. Maybe if we all knew where it stood then I wouldn't have to bring it up.

Lets just keep this on the path of trying to figure out ideas of how we can get the village's motor fixed.
