I posted a message in a reply to someone's thread and received some notification that my post would be reviewed first before being displayed. Does this happen after every post? Or is this just for new accounts?

Everyone's first post needs to be approved. It is a security messure to keep spam-bots from advertising and such. Now you can post normally. :)

Welcome to the Village!

with so few new members and so many moderators that policy sounds kind of silly

Oh trust me, it has been handy already against spambots. Also, the Welcome PM that is automatically sent to new users explains this measure. This rule also prevents new users without any verified posts to send out PMs to other users to prevent spamming as much as possible.

Greetings,
Glodenox

I'm sure it has also had an effect against new members, why not just use something like mollom

Well, since Mollom is made by Belgians, I may be more inclined to have a look at it :shifty:

Sadly enough nobody has written a MOD for phpBB yet so it can use their message-checking API... I'm not putting this as a high priority thing to me though because we still have our mods for a reason. I will try to look into it when I have time though and have just posted a topic about it on phpBB's site.
There are a few technicalities and limits that I'm seeing, but I already thought of ways to circumvent those, so it may be a viable option.

Greetings,
Glodenox
