Just noticed this, was posted last week

http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/f ... 5,60722617

Quote:
As well as our officially recognised fansites above, we’re working with a number of Silver level fansites with an aim to move them to the Gold level, allowing us to offer them much more support. The Silver fansites we’re currently working with are:

Runevillage

Would be pretty good if we could get bumped up into the gold band.

I'm quite disappointed with this to be honest. It seems like the already established fan sites will continue to be given access to all areas while ones like us trying to make it into the next section face an uphill battle due to less support.

Why would you come here if you know that a gold or platinum site will have more exclusive content?

Bronze and Silver
Quote:

Bronze
* Initial advice/pointers from the fansite support team
* The fansite starter pack (if applicable)
Silver
* Occasional feedback and announcements from the fansite support team
* Support in removing RWT/gaming adverts from your site (if applicable)

Gold and Platinum
Quote:
Gold
# The website will be officially recognised by Jagex and included on the recognised fansite list
# Support with events (advertising on the forums, the official Jagex Twitter account and Facebook)
# In-game JMod support with events (when possible)
# Syndicated staff interviews
# Syndicated concept art
# Occasional exclusive staff interviews
# Occasional exclusive concept art
# Occasional merchandise from the Jagex Store for competition giveaways
# Access to the hidden fansite admin forum on the official RuneScape forums
# Advice on search engine optimisation
# Possible invitations to Jagex and Jagex's future events

Platinum
# Guaranteed invitations to Jagex and Jagex's future events
# Regular exclusive staff interview
# Regular exclusive concept art
# Regular merchandise from the Jagex Store for competition giveaways
# Update support (exclusive staff interviews and concept art following the launch of large updates
# Advertising support or management from Jagex (if applicable)

Reminds me of the Rich get Richer while the Poor stay Poor.

You may lock this if its already been discussed :)

What components go into determining placement on this list?

We meet silver as of current.

Quote:
Silver
# These are safe websites who understand the basics of supporting players
# These websites do not support Real World Trading and block adverts for any such services
# Jagex are acknowledges whenever any copyrighted content/images are used
# These websites have a friendly atmosphere and encourage players to help each other out
# These websites are a good resource for game-related help and offer a number of frequently updated tools and guides

For gold we need the following

Quote:
Gold
# The website owner(s) focus solely on the game they are supporting. They understand that gaming adverts will push players away from the game and their fansite and block/remove these from their site

There must be some sort of hidden criteria because I believe we meet those do we not?

Wow. Jagex is so loving, eh? Grading/ranking fansites... Playing favorites... That's pretty unfair.

I'd laugh if we're silver because of our "Other Games" forum. Silly Jagex afraid of a little competition.

I get the feeling that it's due to our site layout and outdated guides, though. I really wish we had more help in those departments..

I hope that since we have some stickies/a forum labeled "other games" they count us off. If that is I am saddened.

Btw goten way to post that right as I'm posting this.....

We should see if someone could send an email asking exactly why we aren't on that list. I believe Hiker has contact with Jagex somewhat frequently.

RV:
-Guides aren't up to date.
-In-game events? Ha. It's been years since I've seen one with more than 5 people showing up.
-Community base: Is it even expanding? I see the same people, no incoming new players to the forum.

There's some problems that could be addressed.

Where have you been? :?: Most of our RVET events get 12-20 players.

Couldn't agree with both of these more.

No not really.

I'd say the grading system doesn't help us at all to be honest. If I was new to Runescape and happened to see the official fan site list I certainly know which one id join based on their grading system. Why join a silver when you can join a platinum?

This puts us and others in the silver bracket at a complete disadvantage. Those sites have earned their rank, I'm not knocking that. Its just smaller sites like ourselves aren't going to be able to break into the top ranks as things stand. Word travels fast in Runescape and I'm sure new players will tell their friends to join them at a platinum site because they have exclusives with Jagex.

I just wish they could include stuff for the lower ranked sites and actually give people a reason to check them out rather than just basically saying join the top fan sites.

Hopefully Hiker or someone could ask Jagex to have a look at their system and perhaps change it otherwise the future looks bleak.

This rating system would of been better off being hidden apart from to the site owners etc. That way new players have the freedom to make a choice and at least click http://www.runevillage.com. If they don't like what they see that's fine. At least we had a fair chance at them signing up.

How on earth are Sals realm ranked Platinum? Their guides are hopeless.

I agree with everything that has been said about it being unfair, by the way.

After all the please help us globals i have seen i assure you that there are very few people that would want to join simply to help the village. This is mostly because the group seems to be such a downer. When i think about joining the Guide Writers i think about hearing "great guide, we'll be sure to add it to RV2" and "good job, now i need this other guide done by 4 tomorrow", or even worse "here is your assignment". That may not be the way it is, but you really don't paint a very positive picture of your group.

Perhaps a better approach would be to open up the group and allow any villager to submit a guide, and give awards to people that do good work, like a villager of the month or something.

actually, jagex has told me that if we remove the google ads, they will move us up to a gold.

at the same time, i've been invited to submit a request for RS ads to run on the site, but that is not guaranteed, and is up to the ad dept. based on visits and click-through rates...

right now, our click-throughs are pretty low, although not totally in the basement...

but the occasional check from google is nice... especially when i think of months' like this one, where we have a hosting bill due again shortly, and it looks like i'm going to get stuck for $80-$100 to pay it...

so i've not removed the ads yet... but it looks like i'll have to fall to the jagex blackmail and take them down, and hope they buy some ad space with us.

and i'm not happy with the platinum arrangment either.. don't know exactly the difference between that and gold...

I'd like a mod to contact me with ways I can help out. Can't do code (used to be able to, but I am like...7 years ago rusty). I'll help w/ guides or whatever. Tell me what you need. I'll help with whatever I am capable of, and will help w/ multiple things (you know...without a job at the moment, and need to feel productive :) )

I think this has a lot of truth to it. I remember seeing a statement from someone who quit a user group on RV (maybe it was guide writers?) because he felt unappreciated. What did the people reply with? "That's the way the world works, man up." I said it there and I will say it here, RV will never develop into its full potential if it adopts that attitude. Why would someone want to help out when they're going to be treated badly, like they are at their day job which they want to escape?

I joined after lurking for a year because I saw nice and invitational topics and events from players like Boy Hits Car and About2getpkd.

I mean not to troll, and obviously my statements were incorrect and are not prohibiting RV from getting higher ranks on the list. But I would not say to disregard them, for they are still things that can be improved on.

I'm fairly certain that user is Simons Pure, and his reasoning was completely BS, to be blunt. :?:

The groups themselves are very welcoming and open to new members. We constantly find ourselves helping out/thanking one another for their contributions to improve the guides on the site. More often than not, you will see the most thanks coming from the people you are working with inside the groups than you would otherwise.
As far as "That's the way the world works, man up.", that's pretty far from the actual quote -- I believe Rory had it in his signature at one point. The quote itself was something along the lines of: "You get plenty of thanks within the group, man up and help RuneVillage.".

There has only been one 'please help' global, and that's because we really do need help. For the past seven months it has been, more or less, the same eight users working on writing, editing, coding, and uploading the guides.
As far as your thoughts of what you hear when you think of joining the Guide Writers, they could not be farther from what actually goes on.
No assignments have been given out to any of our writers, nor are the writers pressured into getting more than one guide done in quick succession.

Pretty much everything that DC1 said. :-s

The Guide Writers team is extremely appreciative. Do what you can when you can and you'll get a thousand thanks for it - Not from the users, of course, but from the team. If that's not enough for you (like what seemed to be the case for that user you mentioned, Purez), then they're probably getting involved with the site for the wrong reasons.

Point being, the Guides Team (as well as editors/coders) are anything but demanding.

:?:

So you can have a pop-up ad and ads on every corner, some going to a different game, and be on the platinum list?

Without a doubt. The problem though is that we're at a loss for coders currently which is causing a lot of delay time. :(
