View unread posts not working on Globals.

Every time I click one of the globals, instead of being taken to where the last post I read was, it takes me to the top of whatever page the last read post was on.

Is anyone else experiencing something like this?

EDIT: Corrected the grammar in the title because I'm paranoid about that.

I've experienced that for aaaaaages, and especially recently. ...Apparently I've never thought to actually bring it up, though. I didn't figure it was fixable, so I've never mentioned it. :awesome:

Hmm, I hardly ever use that feature, so I can't say I've noticed that already. I'll try to take a look at it once I see someone has posted in one of the globals.

I just managed to try it out and it seems to work just fine

The only thing I did notice is that I didn't get to the latest post because there was an image loading, which pushed the last post a bit more down than where it initially took me.

I can't easily explain it or reproduce what happens, but there was a recent global where after practically every other new post was made, if I clicked the "View Unread Posts" icon next to the topic, it would take me to the very first post in the global--even if the topic was two or three pages long. What's more, all of the post icons themselves would display as red (as in unread), kind of like the topic was read, and then as soon as someone posted, the entire topic was unread. Kind of odd to be honest.

That is quite odd indeed... I can't immediately think of something that could cause that...

Perhaps it only happens if two or more people already replied to the global or something. I'll do my best to see whether I can reproduce it any time soon.

Same exact thing as Jaron. Maybe it's browser-related, although I doubt it, since it happened to me in both Opera and Firefox.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but for the record, it has nothing whatsoever to do with edited posts. ^_^

We dont have any Globals atm, but when admins edit a post, the "last edited by" bit isnt added.

When we next get a global topic, Post on it and PM another admin (glode maybe) get him to edit the post.

That will make it happen again.

While its NOT a new post, you press "go to new post" and because it has been edited, and PHPBB3 tracks ALL posts there could be "new" info there, and is therefore classed as a new post.

tbh it doesnt even need to be a global - set a post up somewhere else if you want to test

I'm fairly sure RV isn't set up that way, I guess. I edit a bunch of topics all the time in behind-the-scenes forums (and sometimes in public ones if needed) so that things stay up to date, but never once have they displayed anything as a new post, and my name is indeed added to "Last edited by".

It's happening to me right now on two of the three globals (not the RVET one, but the other two) if that's of any help.

Spelda recently posted on the "Reminder on some rules for posting images." topic, and now every single post in that topic (all the way up to Glod's) is marked as Unread (aka orange.)

Hmm... Either way, I can say I've experienced what you guys experienced and I've been looking at the code and been unable to tell what's causing it

The problem for me is that I'm not fully aware of how exactly the "unread" system works in phpBB. And as long as you don't understand that, it's quite tough debugging it

Either way, it seems like a bug to me and I think I'm just going to report it to phpBB.

EDIT: hmm, it seems to be working correctly now indeed... Odd...
