I'm somewhat curious, would anyone be in favor of making this an actual forum rather than a usergroup?

I'm currently the A&M Shrine leader and, while I do enjoy having it as a usergroup, I get the feeling that it would do well as an actual forum. It gets plenty of activity and I'm constantly having to approve usergroup requests because - go figure - anime and manga is a pretty popular topic of discussion around here.

Opinions?

I think it would be cool. Plenty of our users are anime-watchers. There's already Media Mansion, but... I dunno, I feel like anime discussions just wouldn't fit in to that forum as well as some of the other topics in there, y'know?

Anyway, I think it's worth a try.

If it's active I see no problem.

Perhaps if there were a few forums removed then I'd be inclined to give this a shot.

You do realize that Car Enthusists, Anime & Manga Shrine, Scouting for the Masses, and Tech. Elite are always displayed on the index page, regardless of your membership status in those groups. So turning the Manga & Anime Shrine into a forum would change nothing in the length of the index page.

You have the ability now to minimise categories, so you can significantly shorten the length of the index if you so desire.

I was referring less to the usergroups being removed, more to other forums being merged/removed.

I vote no. I've seen the bull crap that anime/manga gets on this, and other forums. While opening it up to everyone would be good for activity, I'm not sure it would be the right kind of activity.

TL;DR, if someone's interested they'll join. Keep it that way

Not exactly. Otherwise we could say that with category minimising we should now have 100 open forums, as if you don't like them you can simply minimise them. Right now I think the forums are stretched a bit thin...too much toast and not enough butter to put on them. If we consolidate and remove some forums, I'm prepared to take a chance on a public Anime forum. But I'm reluctant to add another forum when we already have too many forums for our level of activity.

While I'm not sure about the opening of the forum for public posting, I'd at least like to be able to read the contents of forums before joining.

I say open the forum to everyone to join if they want but keep it as a user group.

It's not mainstream enough for RV. Needs more gags.
