I'm doing Desert Treasure at the moment and I'm using the RV quest guide. When I was following the Blood Diamond part, I used a halberd to fight Dessous (as the guide recommended). However, this strategy does have a huge disadvantage that the guide doesn't mention. If you're fighting Dessous using a halberd and you're attacking him from the other side of the fence, he'll teleport to the other side and melee attack you, even if you're not using protect from ranged.

Also, the guide makes no mention of what armor to wear for the Blood Diamond part. When I first tried fighting Dessous, I assumed that Proselyte armor would work well, since it provides a large prayer bonus. However, I was terribly mistaken. Even with protect from magic on, Dessous constantly hit double digits on me with melee, and I have 70 defence. The second time I fought him I used barrows armor, a rune kite shield, and a whip. This equipment worked much better than the Proselyte armor and rune halberd setup.

Furthermore, my suggested inventory would be as follows:

Pot of blood
4 prayer potions (4)
1 super set
The rest of the inventory being food -- I used monkfish to fight Dessous and used about a dozen monkfish, so swordfish or higher will get the job done.

In regards to the first correction, does Dessous teleport instantly to your side of the fence when attacking with a halberd, or are you able to get in a couple attacks before the teleport, reposition yourself on the other side of the fence, and then continue to attack him for awhile before he teleports again?

You're able to get about a blow or two off on him before he teleports across the fence next to you. Unless you have a dragon halberd, an amulet of glory, and gloves that give you offensive bonuses, I would suggest not using a halberd. He's just too hard to hit with a rune halberd, and halberds hit so slowly that there's honestly no way to kill him with one. If you use a halberd and barrows armor then you might be ok, but it's still pretty much impossible.
