I don't know if RV has, or if someone has suggested it already. I was thinking we should have a teamspeak line.

I am not sure how much they cost or if they are free.

This came up before and it was a no due to the fact it would be too hard to mod. You could always make an Un-Official one but for an Official its more than likely be a No unless its changed from the last time this topic came up

Just join the Skype group, it's unofficial, but quite a lot of Villagers are active in it.

The main problem with teamspeak is that it takes up a lot of bandwith for a server, thus we need a good and fast server. We don't have a server sufficient to host a Teamspeak line at the moment.

Second, it would need to be moderated day and night. There isn't a way to keep logs, as there is with chat. If someone decides to run amok, you have no way of telling he did when there is no mod online. On the chat, we have the chat logs, and they can serve as evidence against someone who breaks the rules.

I know there are people hosting Teamspeak lines for runevillage, but those are not official.

Well, we could get a dedicated server for around $2000 give or take a little, so we could just run a donation campaign until we have enough for one.

If everyone gave $2 (thats £1 and 1.5 euros), we'd have enough.

We've had a donation campaign going on for awhile, bringing in money is easier said than done from what I've seen.

That's assuming 1000 people want a Teamspeak server, and also that those 1000 people have the means to pay. Neither of which is the case.

It's hard enough to get that kind of money for the main site. There's absolutely no way we'll be able to raise it for a teamspeak server

You actually think 1000 people will donate? There aren't 1000 active Villagers, first of all, and most of RVers are kids with no means of paying

Again, actually there was awhile ago a time of the year where a large donation campaign was run, I wasn't active around that time, but I'm under the impression that it was closed due to lack of money it was bringing in, I may be wrong in saying this, though.

We did used to have a number of "Big Pushes". These were made because of necessity...Hiker was simply running out of funds to keep RuneVillage up. He used a "Big Push" to generate the additional publicity to encourage donators. He then reused the idea a couple of times when regular donations just weren't providing enough support for RV. We haven't had one in quite a while.

With regards to an official TeamSpeak server, that won't happen in the foreseeable future. Having unofficial servers amongst members of RV is fine though.
