Welcome to the Guide to Reporting Autoers, hopefully this guide will cover all the information you need to know about reporting, and ridding RuneScape of this horrible scum, that plagues us more and more by day.
Table of ContentsSection I: What is an Autoer, and why is it Illegal?
Section II: The Importance of Reporting
Section III: Different Kinds of Autoers
Section IV: Tips and Techniques to Report Autoers
Section V: How to Report Autoers
Section VI: FAQ
Section VII: End
Section I: What is an Autoer, and why is it Illegal? An autoer, or a macroer, (referred to as autoer in this guide) is an account that uses Third Party Programs to control their character, and do repetitive tasks that usually either allow them to skill quicker, or allow them to harvest large amounts of gold. And, as I'm sure you're aware, using a Third Party Program in conjunction with your account is illegal. (See
this Knowledge Base article for more information)
What does an autoer look like? Usually autoers wear the default clothing, or something very close to it. (Example; they only change the hair) Often they receive items from Random Events, and they wear them.

Not only do you identify an autoer by their clothing, you can also also identify an autoer by their Combat Level, or their user name. For the majority of the time, the Combat Level of an autoer will be relatively low, usually between 3-10. An autoer's user name usually is either random gibberish, or something Asian. (Example; 8234283jjjss or Jinguan334)
Another definite is seeing many accounts with the same user name. (Boopl33, Boopl44, Boopl66, Boopl88, etc.)
Section II: The Importance of ReportingMany of you will look at this guide, sigh, and just think, "Well, they're not bothering me! Why should I waste my time?" It's true, they may not be kicking you in the shins, and bothering you directly, but they're bothering the game you play, and they're bothering you indirectly.
Are you a woodcutter? A green dragon slayer? An essence miner? A fisher? A flax picker? The list goes on, you can, and will be all easily affected by autoers. By harvesting such large amounts of items into the economy, they thus make the economy itself very unstable, making item prices drop, and heighten. You may be very content to know that right after you sell this batch of dragon bones, you can finally get that Santa Hat you've been striving for months to get, but then you notice, dragon bones dropped 400GP! You're wondering what the hell happened. Autoers.
Here's just an example of how many there can be, and this isn't even the highest.

So my friend, do what you can to help RuneScape be rid of this hellish plague, Random Events obviously aren't doing it. So, report, report report.
Section III: Different Kinds of AutoersAutoers are used for many different tasks, all illegal. These tasks range from picking flax, to killing Green Dragons, to mining Rune Essence, and many other differing objectives. With this guide, we'll explore all the different kinds of autoer scum RuneScape unfortunately holds, and where to find them. The areas where they are found will be circled in
yellow.
A) Woodcutting Autoers
Description: Woodcutting autoers are possibly the most plentiful kind of autoer that exists on RuneScape; they can be found almost anywhere where trees are. Upon chopping a full inventory of whatever log they're chopping, they will run to the bank, bank the logs, run back, and continue cutting. This process is repeated, giving you time to report them.
B) Rune Essence Mining Autoers
Description: Rune Essence Mining Autoers, what can I say, they're another VERY large problem. They were such a large problem, that Jagex actually had to change Rune Essence to Pure Essence in P2P, so the autoers would have a harder time.
Tip: Outside the Aubury's Magic Store (where you're teleported to get Rune Essence), is a level 6 Mugger. Attack this mugger, and lure him into the shop. Then, close the door, run out, and he will start attacking the autoers, potentially killing them.
C) Fishing Autoers
Description: Fishing autoers aren't as much as a threat as other autoers, such as woodcutting are, due to the fact there's nowhere near as many. But don't forget to report them, because there still is enough to pose a threat, and hurt the cost of fish. In F2P, they're found commonly on Karamja docks, fishing lobsters or swordfish, while sometimes, but rarely, by Blurite Cave.
D) Arrow Buying Autoers
Again, Arrow Buying Autoers are a kind of autoer that isn't a large problem, although they still are. When looking for autoers to report, these should be near the bottom of your priority list, as there are many more kinds of autoers that pose a larger threat. But keep in mind; all autoers are a problem, no matter the amount. (The same principle applies to "Rune Buying Autoers", autoers who sit in Magic Shops and buy out the runes.

F) Green Dragon Autoers-Image-
Description: Want to do more than just report these scum? You can also kill them with RuneVillage's official topic:

Section IV: Tips and Techniques to Report Autoers1. Find the autoer's user name by right clicking on their character. Once you've found out their user name, you can do several things:
A) Write down their name on a piece of paper.
B) Right down their name in the chatbox.
C) Add them to your Ignore List, so their name stays there for future reference.
The reason for having to remember their name, is often their names are very confusing, such as, "023jj7134fil" which isn't the easiest thing in the world to remember; and when you're reporting them, you don't want to waste your time putting in the wrong name by accident.
2. Unfortunately or fortunately, Jagex implemented a timer to stop people from spam reporting, and this can interfere with the efficiency of reporting autoers. The timer signifies that you can only report once every 60 Seconds. You can do one of two things.
A) Report, then wait another minute, report again. Such as when you're doing another activity. This is less efficient than other methods.
B) Report, log out, log back in, report. This bypasses the 60 Second timer, and allows you to report the autoers much quicker. And this is not abusing the timer, I've already asked Jagex about it, and they say it's perfectly fine.
3. Write down all of their names on Notepad.
Follow this link. Scroll down and click on "Other comments".
Write "Suspected Rule 7 Breakers" at the top.
Copy the list of autoers and paste it into your message.
Click on "Submit message" at the bottom. The list has been sent to Jagex, yay!
Thank you to ZinyX for this special tip!
4. Are you the type of player that really prefers to concentrate on skills instead of running off and reporting autoers? Well, that's okay as well, but the little secret is: you can do both. Instead of skilling in a remote area, take the Firemaking skill for example, firemake in a F2P world using the Draynor bank, thus you'll have many autoers to report, and at the same time you can firemake. This can apply with other skills.
5. Irritate them. Lure an NPC to attack them for instance, it makes it a lot harder for them to work, but reporting is always a better option, as it will usually ban them.
Section V: How to Report AutoersThis image will show you how to report autoers.

As you can see, type in their user name, and then select
7: Macroing.
Section V: FAQQ: But what about Random Events! Aren't they supposed to stop all autoers?
A: Unfortunately, Random Events do next to nothing, it's very easy for an autoer programmer to rewrite the script to get around a Random Event. So no, Random Events do very little, we, the community, are the only ones that can stop them.
Q: This guide is great for F2P players wanting to report autoers, but what about members who are wanting to report autoers?
A: Well, you're write, this guide was based on F2P, as I was F2P at the time of writing this guide, but the basic elements of this guide can be applied to P2P as well, such as how to report them, and the tips and techniques. All you really need to do is change the area in which you report them.
Q: Why report them? They're not bothering me!
A: Oh no, maybe not directly. But by harvesting these massive amounts of various items, it makes the prices totally unstable, and if you are a woodcutter for instance, this could sabotage your income. So no, they're not coming up and kicking you in the shins, but they still are damaging the game, and you indirectly.
Q: Where can I get more information about
Rule 7: Macroing? A: See
this Knowledge Base Article, it covers all the information you need to know.
Q: What happens after you've reported them?
A: Usually, Jagex will see the report, and ban the player, but with the amount of reports they're getting, don't expect to see them just disappear, upon the report. Or even an hour later. Also, don't waste your time reporting the autoer over, and over, and over, report other ones for increased efficiency.
Q: Do Player Moderators have an edge with reporting autoers?
A: Of course.
Q: I have questions, how can I contact you?
A: You can always PM me!
Section VII: EndCongratulations, after reading this you are now a player equipped with the tools to help RuneScape become a better, autoer free environment. As well as this, you no longer have an excuse not to report them, so go out and report this scum!
