right now Im doing the quest, and it said that I'd only need 8 planks, well, so far Ive needed 25
10 for cats, 5 for fixing the stairs and 10 for setting up a crate.

edit: and instead of needing 45 nails, you need 50, you use 10 nails when building the stairs, and 40 for setting up the crate.

Well, first of all, I believe that the 8 was supposed to be an 18.

Second of all, when I edited the guide originally, we had several people telling us that the amount of planks the guide said (25) was too much, as people were really only using 18. I tried it myself, and sure enough it was only 18

It just might be that you use extra planks and nails for the stairs if your construction level isn't good enough...
