Jackstick came into Rv Lounge today and we all started conversing about helping Runevillage out and in what areas this was possible. One area a lot of people on focus on is the lack of guides however I am going to try and focus on the problems with the existing guides. So I thought I would help out by going through our existing guides and checking what is out of date and what isn't even there at all! There are a lot of guides, so it would be great if anyone else could post other things they have noticed wrong with the guides - it can be anything to do with content or even the language that is not relevant/grammar. I guess this is especially relevant and necessary because I myself have been away from the game for a long time and not completely up to date with everything.

I've only just started and am currently a little busy so bare with me if I've missed anything. I will try to continually add to it.
**Leaving combat to the bottom as it needs a MASSIVE overhaul**

Skill Guides

In General Things that are missing in more than one guide:
- Achievement Cape Pictures and Emote pictures (Missing in ALL)
- Outdated pictures (since graphic changes) or a lot of pictures missing (Will go into more detail for specific guides)
- Best methods of Training -> WAY out of date, some guides don't have them at all. Alternate training methods always help too, as not everyone likes to stick to the main method.
- Cost efficient methods to complement the above.
- Assist system
- Distractions and Diversions (Missing in ALL)
- Skill experience rewards for quests/minigames
- Small error: , instead of . in exp charts eg. 67,5 exp.
- PVP items that enhanced skill experience (Missing in ALL)
- Boosts to skills.
- No Construction or Summoning Guide.
- Personalised shop update.
- Summoning familiars left out from other guides.

Agility:
- No information on new courses such as: Gnome Advanced, Barbarian Advanced (I can help out with these two soon), Werewolf, Dorgesh-Kaan
- Wilderness course is lacking information to do with Revenants (Guide still says beware of PKers) and just general tips to training here.
- Boosts such as Agility pots, pies, stews.
- New shortcuts: Grapple shortcuts.
- Lap times/Experience per hour approximations - Very handy, can come under "How to train" really.
- Summoning familiars such as Ant/Terrorbird that increase level/provide energy.
- Agility clothing; Agile Legs and Agile top.

Cooking:
- Gauntlet burn levels
- Cavefish & Rocktail

Construction - No Guide uploaded?

Crafting:
- Methods for collecting Seaweed, Sand, hides.
- Sacred Clay needles.

Farming:
- Collecting seeds is out of date, only really has pickpocketing Master Farmers. 'Killing monsters' is very vague, perhaps suggestions of Monsters such as Aberrant Spectres, Daggs, etc for herbs and so on.
- Picture of Farming locations (Allotments, Herbs, Fruit trees, etc) It's easy to look on the map, but when you read a guide and it's just paragraphs and paragraphs on text it's a bit boring to the reader.
- Vinesweeper minigame.
- Trollheim special herb patch.
- Fruit Tree patch in Lleyta
- The use of Lunar spells for farming runs: Teleport to Catherby teleports you extremely close to the farming patch, as well as fertile soil for compost.
- Magic secateurs: increases harvest amount.
- Methods for creating super compost: Buying Pineapples for 2gp each from Arhein in Catherby.
- Explorer's ring 3/Falador Shield 3/Ectophial: Teleport to fally farming patch, increase farming exp at Fally farm patch, Teleport to Mort farming patch.
- Summoning familiars such as compost mounds or BOB's to carry items + provide run energy

Firemaking:
- Inferno Adze.
- Firelighters

Fishing:
- Locations, methods, pictures out of date.
- Cavefish/Rocktail experience/pictures/location

Herblore:
- Extreme potions
- Herb collection updates
- Herb picture updates
- No longer identify, but 'clean'.

Hunter:
- Imps in butterfly netting.
- Alternate training method.

Mining:
- Living Rock Caverns: Concentrated coal and gold deposits.
- Dragon pick
- Familiars - BOB's very helpful if you are banking and also ones that increase Mining level.
- Areas: Inappropriate names, no images in the Mining guide itself, best locations need updating.
- Granite?
- Varrock armour increasing chance of mining 2x ores.

Prayer:
- Blessing/repairing gravestones
- Ancient mace's special attack that restores prayer up to a certain amount of points above your level.

Runecrafting:
- ZMI/Ourania crafting - Methods, exp, etc.
- Blood runes - same as above.
- Astral crafting - more information, different from other crafting. Not many places have a guide to this.
- Recent Runecrafting update about chances of making 2x runes, rough estimates.

Slayer:
- Slayer points! ==> Slayer helms, rings, broad bolts, cancelling tasks.
- Sumona
- Amounts possible to be assigned.
- Aquanites.

Smithing:
- Sacred Clay Hammers
- Edgeville furnace
- Varrock armour - increases smelting and smithing rate for certain ores/bars.
- Forging the Dragon plate.

Summoning - No Guide uploaded.

Thieving:
- Some images not showing up.
- Can now thieve some Dwarves in Keldagrim.
- Gloves of silence, weight reducing items
- Ardougne diary cape.

Woodcutting:
- Out of date tree images.
- Ivy!
- Randoms don't exist any more.

Note: I am pretty out of date when it comes to combat myself so help here is needed.

Combat in General:
- Extreme potion boosts, Saradomin Brew boosts, Prayers such as Piety/Chivalry boosts.
- A LOT of armour such as Dragon boots, Dragon plate, Dragon full helmet, Bandos armour, Slayer helmet, Third Age
- A LOT of weapons such as godswords, abyssal whip, dragon claws.
- Best training methods and money-making methods with combat.

Attack/Defence Guides:
- Missing armour and weapons as well as boosts: See above.

Strength:
- Max hits for some weapons/stength levels would be handy.
- Boosts.

Magic: This 'interactive' guide is actually set out well compared to others.
- Up-to-date shop amounts for Runes.
- Good ways to obtain runes.
- Max hits
- Dream Mentor Lunar spells
- New Normal spells

Ranged: Possibly the most outdated one.
- Crossbow + Bolts (broad, emerald, etc..)
- Composite bows
- Dark bow
- Kharils
- Dragon arrows
- Crystal Bow
- Third Age
- Shortcuts
- Appropriate use of Range, what monsters?
- Grapple shortcuts
- Red Chinchompas.
- Max Hits.

*Something else I just remembered... the skill is called Defence with a 'c' not an 's'!

Synchronize "Varrock West Mine" and "Southwest Varrock"
Where's the note of Pure Rune Essence, that it's not different from regular?
Clay has the same description as Copper.
Copper & Tin available in Lumbridge Swamp's newbie spot.
The crafting guild doesn't have Coal. try the mining guild. Also, the Lumbridge Swamp mine has Coal.
PK'ers are nonexistant. Warn Rune Miners about Revenants.
Adze?
Remove the random events area. Except maybe mention that the Drunken Dwarf seems to go through the Dwarven Mines / Mining Guild area.
Shouldn't prospecting come sooner than everything else?

Prayer
Long / curved bones?

Ranged
I see question marks instead of some apostrophes.
More stress on outdated pictures.
Half-assed Free Player training section.

Runecrafting
The Mind Altar's map shows the Edgeville route, but then adds that fact as "extra info". :?:
Earth Runes are no longer the 'second best' way.
Death Runes map picture?
Omni-Tiara?
Runecrafting Guild & "The Great Orb Project"?

Smithing
Incredibly outdated first photo.
Edgeville for Smithing... right?

Woodcutting
Outdated tree pictures?
Random Events no longer exist.

Onions are easiest obtained at the Sheep Farm in Lumbridge, where you start the Sheep Shearer quest.

Knight's Sword
If the pictures show the old pointy pure-blue Blurite rocks instead of the veined ones, you know it's outdated.

Too old of photos.
A white apron is hanging on the wall of the Fishing Store in Port Sarim. No need to go all the way to Varrock for an apron.
Fun fact: You can take a banana from the crate as you get the rum back. :P

Prince Ali Rescue
In the Yellow Dye description, there should be a space between '5' and 'gold pieces'.
Remove the space between "Fancy one" and the question mark when getting Joe drunk.

Romeo & Juliet
Old photos.
On the map, Romeo can roam a bit further out than that tiny circle. Try the range of the general store, out and about there.

Rune Mysteries
Old photos! D:

Shield of Arrav
Very old photos if they use the old certificate version.
The map is at the bottom? Why not the top? O.o
The map is JPEG?
The map isn't accompanied by photos of each step along the way?
Explain the new, shared certificate system. Teamwork's needed through and through. :P

Vampire Slayer
Outdated photos.

Witch's Potion
Update that old map & those old photos.
Raw Rat Meat also counts with the meat family.

Nice work Kikori :) I think there are actually a few Runevillage members who have low f2p chracters specifically made for taking more up-to-date pictures for quests.

It's hard to know where they are up to though.

Thanks for your suggestions/feedback, guys. I can't speak on behalf of head cheff (leader of the guides team), but this will certainly help in our rewrites. I think the guides team's current focus is towards updating quest guides (as those are arguably the most used guides a RuneScape fansite can offer), but this feedback will certainly be applied when the focus shifts towards skill guide rewrites.

If you guys are interested in working on these rewrites yourself, I'd suggest speaking to head cheff about joining the Guides Team. :^_^: I may try to work on the skill guide rewrites myself actually since I'm extremely knowledgeable in most/all fields, but I'm already pretty busy with other stuff so I may not get the chance to undertake the rewrites myself. Still, I fully agree that we they all need some serious revamping/updating. :P

No, not all of them. Some of the guides actually had very, very recent photos; some were remade not too long ago. ^_^

EDIT

Varrock City Guide
There's a bridge connecting the mines at #9 and Lumbridge / Draynor now.
The Air Altar was moved to southwest of Varrock.
Shouldn't the Earth Altar be mentioned?
The mines at #9 mention "three gold rocks". FALSE!
Should we also mention the statue just before the road leading to the lumber yard, the one that can be "excavated"...?
Since the Port Sarim guide mentions Music unlocked in / around the city, shouldn't there be a mention of it in Varrock's as well?

Port Sarim Guide
Shouldn't the shops have a detailed table of their contents?
Mudskipper Reef. Mention it.
In the fishing shop hangs a White Apron. That's useful in the Pirate's Treasure quest. Possibly mention it.

Falador Guide
Slightly outdated pictures. (Especially the mining guild one.)
Does the Rising Sun Pub REALLY need to be linked externally for its contents? For simplicity's sake, it's only a couple lines and maybe pictures. >>;
No Photo for Wayne's Chains?
Elaborate a bit on buying and using Woad Leaves. 15 coins for one, 20 coins for two. :3

Al Kharid Guide
Outdated photos again.
Elaborate on the Gem Stall?
Outdated general store prices.
The photo of talking to Hassan for the Prince Ali quest has a custom mouse cursor in the photo. Please avoid in the future. XD

The member cities aren't too bad.. but I'll be happy to have a look at them soon to help out. *EDIT* Ardougne is pretty out of date.

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head are the new ores north of Keldagrim.

Guild Guides at a quick glance:

- No Runecrafting Guild guide yet, has anyone done a guide on this?
- Very old pictures for the Mining Guild guide (and for others) particularly the old ore rocks rather than the new ones with veins.
- The mention of random events in Mining Guild guide seems to allude to Rock Golems/burning rocks which don't exist any more.

I'd be happy to join the Guide team. Might be able to at least gather information and help with what's new in Runescape. It's easy for me because I'm still trying to do that myself. It would have to be after the new year though.

Shouldn't the Stronghold of Security section have a link to the actual dungeon, if we have a map or guide for it?

The Manor is home to both the Ernest the Chicken quest AND the home of the Vampire in Vampire Slayer.
The intersection tends to house a Highwayman or two.
Mention Diango's holiday / toy shop in the Marketplace?

Edgeville City Guide
Isn't a bit inconvenient to not even link to Ozaich's shop?
Isn't a bit inconvenient to not even link to the General Store's shop?
Does the Body Altar go under "Edgeville", or "Barbarian's Village"?

Karamja Island
Outdated photos.
No mention of the little cave opening in the Volcano that takes you to the... Fight Arena, I think it is?

Lumbridge City Guide
I think they did away with the Bank Tutor. I think.

Rimmington City Guide
Photos?
Don't arrows also respawn on the first floor of Lumbridge Castle? One side has Mind Runes, the other has a bronze arrow or two? (Also, didn't there used to be a spawn point in the Falador Gem Shop?)
There are four yew trees just south of Melzar's Maze. The most in a single cluster around Runescape. :awesome:
Hobgoblin Peninsula...?
What farming patch is that?
Link Hetty to the Witch's Potion quest. :3
Music? :awesome:

Thoughts
What of the Bandit / Outlaw / whatever camp in Varrock reachable by going around the city? There's also a Fairy Ring, I'm pretty certain, that'll take you to it. And the little agility shortcut under the wall of the Grand Exchange.
Wasn't there a mini-summoning Obelisk near the Duel Arena in Al Kharid...?
Shouldn't the three Yew trees south of Falador's walls be mentioned?
What of the farming patch between Falador and Port Sarim? Or the two agility shortcuts?
On that note, where does the wizard who changes gender (Gah, I forgot his name! :>_<:) come into a guide?

1 - I can provide skill cape pictures and emotes for Fishing, Cooking, Strength and Herblore.

I will provide the emotes if you let me know how to record, or someone record me.

2 - What quests do you need the rewards for?

4 - I can provide screenshots of the farming locations (4 of them anyways) - Both a screenshot of me there and on the big map.

Im not sure if the list is what you have worked on, what needs working on or what someone else has worked on. But the above is there is you need it.

Just remembered something small :P

The exp for each of the glassblowing items are technically incorrect, as 20 of the exp (of each) is gained from actually making the molten glass.

Beer Glass 37.5
Candle Lantern 39
Oil Lamp 45
Vial 55
Fishbowl 62.5
Orb 72.5
Bullseye Lantern Lens 75

Should read 17.5, 19, 25, 35, 32.5, 52.5, 55 and perhaps add in Molten glass for 20 exp.
