I'm not in any, so is there any way to hide them?

Not really, no.

I could quickly make a greasemonkey script that would hide that usergroup for you, but apart from that, I don't think there's anything that can be done.

They never used to show up, is that going to be the case once more?

Actually, no.

As stated in the link above, the usergroups have been made visible for all users, even if they're not in the group. It is an effort to increase the activity of these groups. Very shortly, a global will be made advertising these groups.

I know TAI, I'm asking if they will shortly be removed from my sight, seeing as I don't wish to join any of them.

To my knowledge, the Usergroups will stay in sight from now on. It's a push to get more activity for them before they all fail, lol.

There's only 5, and they're at the bottom. You should get used to them fairly easily. If you don't like extra forums, just be glad you're not an Admin. :P

I rarely see Hiker post here, after all; this is his home-pitch.

I call for it to be renamed Glodenox's Fire :P

I wish they were at the bottom, I have Guide Writers, Guide Editers, Guide Coders, Database Team, Staff Lounge, Staff Requests and RV Lounge all below.

I don't see what difference it makes... Yes, I understand that because you are not part of the usergroup means the forums being there is useless, especially if you don't play on signing up -- But I don't see what harm it will do by keeping them, either. It's just 5 forums... I never visit the ones in the Runescape catagory, thats 11 forums... I don't complain about them.

But I understand, its because they are seen by many as being new. You'll get use to them not being there, and just bypass if needed -- though, Halley, the vast majority of RV don't have anything underneath those forums anyway.

Glode, couldn't you and your technical genius add an option to the user CP to remove them? ;)

IMHO, there are better ways to bring activity back to the groups, it would be really sad to see them melt away :(

It might be possible to write a phpbb mod that will allow you to show/hide certain catergories and configure which ones you want/don't want to see by default in your user profile....

the plan would be to surround the catergories with one large spoil tag-like system in which you can configure which catergories are visible or not in your user profile. So you won't have to see catergories you never go in like Private Usergroups or Player Vs Player. But because it's in a spoiler tag-like system you will still be able to browse those forums if you want.

I'll look into it, but it might take a while because i'm a javascript nub... :?

Runevillage the forum is pretty well much done. Runevillage the group will eventually die, but as long as we're still friends with each other in the end, it's still a pretty big thought in our heads. Runevillage the family is forever, no matter where we settle down. If absolutely nothing else ever comes of Runevillage in the future, that alone is a pretty damn awesome thought.

I wouldn't even go as far as storing it in the profile or something. Just have some JavaScript and let it store its information in a cookie.

They're visible for advertisement purposes. Hiding them kind of defeats the purpose. :-s
(Although I'd use the feature since I don't plan on joining any of them, but it would still defeat the intended purpose)

Yes... but you WILL still be able to see them. After all, you will have to physically configure it to hide them by default and it won't just hide individual forums, so if you were to open that catergory, all forums in that catergory would be visible...

Probably a better idea than the profile one actually....
