Vinesweeper is a farming-based minigame. If any of you have played Minesweeper, you should be able to do this easier. This guide will help you play the game better and to be prepared for what happens.
Items needed:
-Spade (can be bought at the minigame area)
-Some money (10,000 coins should work)
Quest Requirements:
-None!
Level requirements:
-None!
~Getting Started~
To get to the minigame area, talk to any tool leprechaun around any farming patch. You can also Right-Click "Teleport" to get there as well.
Once you get to the mingame area, you will notice a portal, along with a few instructional panels which give some useful information, along with an indicator to how many points you have. You start with 0 points.
Now go inside the hut there, and talk to the shop owner. First-timers will recieve 10 flags for no charge. Flags will look like these in your inventory:
Buying flags that you've lost will cost 500 coins each, and you can not have more than 10 flags at once. If you have no flags left, you can talk to the farmer in the middle area to recieve flags you used on sucsessful spots and buy more if you have less than 10. You can also buy ogleroots for 10gp each.
~Playing the game~
To begin, you will need to pick a spot to start. One might suggest the corners, for these are easy to work from. Upon Right-Clicking a hole, you will see these options:
The best thing to do is to first inspect the hole. This gives you a better idea of what may be hiding there. After inspecting a hole, you may get one of these messages:
If you see this message, then there is no seed there. Dig the hole to uncover a number or a group of numbers:
Numbers will show up on dug spots that do not contain seeds. The number shown will represent how many seeds are adjacent to that spot. The highest number you can find is 8.
But if you happen to dig a hole where a seed is..
Then you will see a pile of dead roots on the ground, along with this message:
Making this mistake will cost you 10 points.
Occasionally while digging, you'll recieve this message:
This means you found an Ogleroot:
Keep these. Their use will be explained later in this guide.
If you come across this message while inspecting a hole:
Then there is a seed in that hole, so mark the hole with your flag. A gnome farmer will come up and investigate the flagged hole. A sucsessful flagging earns you a number of points (see below). An unsucsessful flagging will give no points, and you will lose that flag. If you're near somebody that has sucsessfully marked a seed, you will also earn points, but not as many.
If you come across one of these several messages:
Then there may be a seed in the hole, but it is not exact. It may help to inspect the hole again, since the message never stays the same.
~Scoring~
To score, you will need to sucsessfully mark a spot. You will earn a random number of points (usually between 30 and 150) upon scoring. If you're standing near a person that has sucsessfully marked a hole and earned the points, you will earn points as well, but only about 1/10 of what you'd normally gain. You also recieve 1 point for digging a hole.
This is what is meant by being near someone else for points:
you need to be within the 3-square radius of the flag to earn points.
Rabbits are also roaming the field, but these are out to stop you. If they are able to reach a marked spot, you will lose your flag, and the seed will be gone. This is where ogleroots come in. If you use an Ogleroot with one of the rabbits, they will dissapear for a short while. To make things easier, there is a left-click "Feed" option on these rabbits. If you're carrying an ogleroot, you will feed one to the rabbit.
~The Shop~
Here, you can trade in your points for seeds, useful items, more flags, along with farming EXP. The prices for each item is shown:
1 point is equal to 1exp.
~Extras~
-When you leave while carrying ogleroots/flags, you will be reimbursed for each ogleroot you have, and your flags will be held onto until you return.
-Working with a small group of people can be beneficial to everybody.
-Watch for scenarios where a seed will be pointed out. Some examples:
If this kind of scenario appears, the seed is pointed out as the red "?", because the 1 that is diagnal to it is touching nothing else but empty squares.
A pretty easy but rare scenario, this happens in the corner. If a 3 is dug in a corner, seeds are in all the squares adjacent to it, marked by a red "?".
