I noticed that a guide like this was missing
Making a RangerWelcome to this guide on ranging- the most graceful of the methods of combat.
Things you should know before starting- Ranging can become a very expensive skill, especially when you start using more expensive, better arrows. You may want to train a money- generating skill with your character to pay for your ranging equipment. For a member, Fletching and runecrafting are good skills for the job. For non-members, fishing or woodcutting are good.
- To be an effective Pker, you need to use special light ranging armour- wearing metal armour will reduce your ranging level to well below zero if worn.
- Will your ranger be a low, medium, or high level? At a low level (levels 40-60), your character will be ready for Pking quickly. At high levels (70 and above, you will be able to make a lot of money fast in the wilderness. It will also open up a lot more of the game as you are able to play more mini- games, kill more monsters, complete more quests effectively.
- Think beforehand what levels you want. If you raise attack levels, you will get a higher combat level even though attack is useless in ranging. Remember that once you have gained a level it is there to stay forever.
Starting off
First off you need to create your account. It is best that you don’t choose a name that gives away that you are a ranger. Names like “ranger123” or “robin hood” are examples of bad names. Be inventive just like you would with any other account.
When you begin playing, you will start on tutorial island. This is a good chance to begin raising some of your skills to level 3. Just be careful not to raise Attack, Strength or magic past level 1, or you will contribute towards unwanted combat levels.
At the mainlandThis is where your adventure begins! I recommend that you head straight to the ranging tutor between Lumbridge castle and the general store. She will give you a training bow and 20 training arrows for free- just remember that the bow will not work with any other arrows and vice-versa. I also recommend that you bank your bronze armour- you may need it later if you want to train defence. A good training spot for beginners is the near Lumbridge with cows to fight. Just remember to pick up the arrows (sometimes they disappear when fired) and the cowhides (these can be sold to crafters for money or crafted to make ranging armour).
Non-member quests to completeRune mysteries- Completing this quest gives you access to the Rune essence mines where you can get Rune essence and sell it for good money
Cook’s assistant- A good way to get cooking experience at the beginning
Doric’s quest- Doing this will get you some good mining experience
Prince Ali rescue- Rewards you with 800 coins- useful as a low-levelled ranger and will grant you with free access to Al- Kharid
The Knight’s sword- provides you with a huge amount of smithing experience
Pirate’s treasure- a good source of money
Romeo and Juliet- gives five quest points, required to get into the champion’s guild if you are a non-member.
PkingIn order to fight you will need to head for the wilderness. To get there, just keep heading north. As a ranger you need to think about the following things:
- Stay away from meelee pkers. They can defeat you quickly.
- Mages are a good target for rangers
-While in the wilderness, be sure to look out for “safe spots” (where you are safe from meelee attacks)
