I came up with this idea and want to see how people react to it.
(also no i'm not abandoning my other one, this idea just came to me)

The basic premise:
Rules
Every character has a hidden trait, something strange and mysterious to them, unnaturally weird or something just 'wrong' with them.

What isn't required is that the character knows this trait. But nobody else will, you don't even say it in your profile.

What is important is that there are "authorities" in the game/rp that DO NOT know... or rather MUST NOT know the special trait.

If you're discovered as to what is 'WRONG' with you.
You will be apprehended. If a character is inescapable captured you might have to make a new one.....

So the objective is secrecy among other things to come later
I want there to be some creativity in this and some fun as well working to figuring out what's going on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Character traits

This trait can't be anything that changes your appearance for literally obvious reasons.
Naturally, having a dragon's head would instantly get you caught.

The special thing should be something you can keep hidden, in the way of some special power or ability or along those lines. eg. telekinesis, strength, is an alien secretly, from the future, ...etc etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------
As far as the setting... A very typical small town highschool
The town is about 20k people, nothing huge but has a few key stores.

I figure everyone is either IN high school or has been. So it's a familiar setting easy to relate to easy to fantasize about. Many of the students think they're unique in their hidden abilities, some are normal. Occasionally some students seem to suddenly move out or leave without notice.

-------------

NPCs: Occasionally it's fine to make up people/characters just be consistent with them and introduce them in a clear manner. eg
new NPC: Jake Skelington: Tall blond heavy built soccer player always wears a german soccer team shirt
If it's nobody important just put a brief description in ( )'s
If you refer back to them and meet up with a npc again, try and remember them, but it can't hurt to re-describe them. I wouldn't expect everyone else to memorize everybody's made up npc's though since they won't be plot-necessary unless it's a teacher or school official you make up.

If you do make up a teacher or important npc (yes it's ok) be reasonable. Base it on an old teacher of yours even. But for main-npcs like teachers, be clear and concise and it would even be helpful to refer which page that teacher's bio was on. like.. Ms.Manchester (p2)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My character

Tabitha Schablone
Age: 17
Appearance: 5' 5" - Shoulder length straight light blond hair, light blue eyes and a somewhat pale complexion - a fairly athletic build. Typically wears fairly drab black or gray clothing. In this case a light gray shirt and long skirt.
Bio: A fairly reliable person with a good gpa. Not on any sports teams but does well in gym. Member of the debate team and won quite a few events. Her parents are straight German though she does not speak with much of an accent.

Opening scene
Setting: Myron County High School, middle of nowhere USA. Like I said in a town of about 20,000 people, no malls or big city living. Just the every-town basics like a theater, wal-mart, quite a few shops and restaurants.

Tabitha had just sat down at a fairly empty table with a few of her friends. No sooner did she attempt to take a bite of what they claimed was beef but one of them blurted out

"You hear abourp Ron? The shrmay he mrrrfved" Jane said with her mouth completely stuffed:
(Sloppily dressed brown hair average looking)

"How about.. chew and finish." Tabitha said gritting her teeth.

"Ya anyway... Ron left. Just like yesterday I guess. Said his parents got a job somewhere... mm or something like that."

About the 10th person to suddenly move out in the past year alone. Does nobody find this as odd... What do they all even have i... Her thought was ruined by
Kent Branigan: 18 - repeated a year a while back, football player, 5' 9" well built short buzz cut hair, wolf printed tshirt and jeans.
"How about you reconsider my offer for Saturday Tabby" He says grabbing her shoulder.

She shrugs him off and leaves. "Just cut it out Kent, no... I'm off to the bathroom." safest place from morons She thinks storming her way there. Not long after Kent slams his hands on the table and follows. From the cafeteria area, a brief glint of a knife is seen barely visible before he enters.

She hears the door creek shut and footsteps while she washes her hands to calm down. Seconds later she is jerked and slammed against the wall and stabbed in the chest collapsing to the ground in a heap. Kent stands huffing deeply and turns away at the mirror to gather his thoughts realizing what he did. He is still too stunned to realize Tabitha was standing behind him until the last minute where he turns in horror and she stabs him gripping his hands around the handle and then he falls slumping down.

Tabitha stands in a daze looking at the mirror and slides to the ground sitting for a moment still breathing like nothing happened.

Hm... Interesting concept. Do we have to send these forbidden "Wrong"s to you as we make our character to ensure we don't act out of character? And how do we go about potentially being discovered?

As for me...

Name: Shane Lucis
Age: 16
Appearance: 5'7" and 125 lb, light brown and very thick hair down to his lips. The hair fluffs a bit and naturally parts to only expose one eye, resembling an "emo" face. Tends to wear a plain polo and blue jeans. Always has a sweater, hoodie, or jacket on or tied around his waist no matter the season. Also always wears hiking style boots rather than sneakers.
Bio: Raised out of Myron County, Shane was unfortunate enough to see more of his neighbors' and previous schoolmates' bad sides toward their families and each other, so he's constantly in a zone of escape. Most often, this includes being glued to his hobbies: music (both playing [percussion and synth] and listening), art, games, and short story writing. Having moved to Myron County three years ago, the walls he'd previously put up have started to crumble and his support of those who helped prove not all people are bad is unwavering.

----------

Shane had already finished his lunch by the time some people were freshly sitting down and was at the table, very accurately tapping his fingers to the table and his belongings to mimic the drum riffs of Panic Switch. Eric (black, bald, similar build but more heavy set) was oblivious as usual, considering how used to it he was, and Jeff (taller, pale skin, light and naturally sort-of-spiked hair, first friend and a guitarist) was trying to guess the song pumping though Shane's speakers by the drum line. He seemed to eventually catch on, seeing as he set down his fork and started air guitaring the solo the best he could without actual strings in his hands. Shane smirked as he saw this, singing along (despite being a little off-key) "I'm waiting, fading, floating away." Jeff joined in, more accurate and a little louder as they finished the acoustic song.

I should hope not; you don't even post it in your profile. Also it'd be more fun that way, especially if people end up controlling NPCs that try to root the real players out. Also it's impossible to act out of character if your character doesn't know it him-/herself.

I don't need to know the special traits/abilities. I kind of figure that since people shouldn't get caught then people will then have to make abilities and things that would be obvious.

So the idea is being discrete. So like I said you can't be like... flying through the halls or shooting lasers from your eyes.

Since obviously we can't do everything in class or the school for that matter, things will take place all over town. For the start at least, it'll be at the school or around it since that way people can meet easily.

I also forgot to mention for the sake of the RP

right now that it will start on
Wednesday at lunch
(in the rp not rl)

There *are* various events like any other school.. games on the weekends, club meetings, the rare but occasional dance or things like that... but unless people make a point about attending, they won't really show up in the storyline.

I assume you're going by the American schooling system of how old you are in which class, except for special cases:
Freshman: 14-15
Sophomore: 15-16
Junior: 16-17
Senior: 17-18

~~~
Name: Quinn Fletcher
Gender: Male
Age: 15 (Sophomore, birthday's in May)
Apperance: 5'8", 120 lb, dark blond hair which goes down the back of his neck but no further, blue eyes. Not very athletic but also not wimpy/helpless. Moved to Myron County 5 years ago to start 6th grade (Junior High). Above-average intelligence such that he gets straight A's while needing to study very little. Shy around people he doesn't know, but not so much around people that he does. Hobbies include amateur programming, playing the piano (also amateur), video games (not an amateur), etc.
~~~

Quinn dragged his feet and sneakers across the floor as he trudged down the hall, heading for the cafeteria and leaving his locker behind. He was in no hurry to go eat, or really do anything for that matter. It had been a rather sucky week so far, in all honesty. That test last hour could have gone better. But *anything* could be better when you're sick. I can't wait until it's time to go home... He'd had a splitting headache since Monday followed by bouts of lightheadedness on Tuesday, but neither of which were bad enough that he'd needed to stay home. Not that he wanted to stay home--Quinn hated having to make up work in classes he could have been attending, instead--but sitting through classes when sick was no fun, either. Things were starting to subside a little today, so with any luck, next week would be perfectly normal. At least I don't have a sore throat. Those are hell.

He rounded the corner, turning onto the hallway that had the cafeteria at its end, and saw a student--one of the senior football players if he recognized him correctly--going into the girls' bathroom. Quinn just strode past, entering the cafeteria and getting in line. Ugh, I don't even want to know. Upperclassmen are such morons sometimes. He grabbed his tray of food and took a table near a wall, eating the French Fries and leaving the meat alone. The fries were really the only thing he liked about the cafeteria food anyway; he'd settle for a bag of Doritos really but didn't want to be seen as "that kid that eats a bag of chips for lunch and nothing else". So instead I'll just eat the fries and nothing else. Sure, let's go with that. He was looking forward to tomorrow's lunch instead, since the cafeteria served Pizza Hut pizza on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That was something he'd actually be happy to eat, but he'd probably have to get to the cafeteria quicker so all the pepperoni didn't get taken. He finished up his fries and just kind of stared into space, counting down the minutes until he could relax on the school bus as it took him home. He didn't feel like doing any programming on his graphing calculator today, but made a mental note to buy an extra notebook sometime so he could doodle or something at times like these.

"Wh..at just happened.." Tabitha said with things coming into view. She saw Kent slumped over on the floor bleeding terribly from the knife puncturing his left lung. But then!... am I going to die too.. She wonders trying to find the wound. The cut in her shirt was barely visible so she could go about the day fine.. No blood at all. I saw it go in right to my heart.. She wondered poking at the stab wound which seemed wider than it should. She tried to pry at it to see how deep until

*click pop* a panel just flips open on her skin like a battery cover would. Inside the muscle fibers were black bundles with what seemed like wires leading throughout. She could barely come to grasp what it meant before screaming out loudly "AAAAAIIEEEEEE!!! ... What is...Oh God.. people must have heard that." She pushed the plate back in place which seemed to work like it was supposed to. I have to make something up before people show up.. and Kent is going to die for sure...

Shane was oblivious to the faint scream, but Eric turned his head along with a few students. Jeff looked up and asked, "What's up, bro?"

"Dunno, sounded like a little scream. Guess someone jumped out at a girl or something, stupid pranks." He started back into his food as Shane looked up at the amount of faces looking out into the hallways. 'What's everyone...?' Shane paused his music and listened, noticing a small rush of running outside. A few people were heading down the hall, more free to explore than everyone in the cafeteria. Shane looked back down and hovered his thumb over the play button, starting up the next song. For better or worse, "Never Too Late" starts with a quiet enough intro that he could hear a second girl scream far more clearly, causing a mass of already curious kids to rush out of the cafeteria.

"Ugh, annoying noise..." Shane cranked up the volume as high as it would go, drowning out the majority of the speech enough that he had to be stirred by Jeff. Shane pulled his headset off and glared. "What is it?" It came out a little more impatient than he intended, but stupid kids hyping everything up wasn't his cup of tea.

"They're sayin' things like someone's stabbed, bro." Shane's stomach iced over immediately and he tried to turn his face as close from fear to worry as possible. He'd heard about random disappearances and kids moving out, and fewer rumors of the "removals" being a little more violent. Was this place really safe?

"We'll know for sure when it's announced, but I don't want to get caught in a crowd where everyone will push around and keep us from moving. I'm staying here."

(OOC: It might be a bit on the side of pushing Znath to having a reaction made earlier than intended. If so, sorry.)

[School Authority figure]
Ms. Hastings
Age: 30
Desc. Short black hair, brown eyes. Generally wearing fairly nice semi-formal clothing. Seems sincere to most of the students (good listener etc.) Slight English accent.
Started working at the school as a councilor fairly recently, not extremely experienced and fairly new out of college with only some minor jobs before this.

Tabitha was lead out of the bathroom by the school councilor, Ms. Hastings. She was brought into the cafeteria to a close table out of convenience since they assumed it would be best not to push her too much. Tabitha is obviously shaken by the incident. After a while when she is able to talk "He was mad I rejected him and pulled the knife out. He kept making threats and ... then he... was all 'Fine if I can't have you there is no reason to live' and he stabbed himself!.. I tried to stop him but he was too strong."

"Do you want to go rest in the nurses office?" Ms. Hastings says while trying to comfort her.

Tabitha shakes her head and says "This is fine. I just want to rest here a while. I am sorry I could not save him."

"It's ok, just wait here.. I know you did your best." Ms. Hastings says and leaves for the school office for the mandatory lockdown procedure. (basically meaning for the next hour or so people need to remain where they are currently.) In the background other students spreading rumor like school being called off and about everything going on.

At the very best, the cafeteria could be considered to be at a dull roar. There was a superb amount of shouting and a failure to keep the noise level down by the few authority figures around. Like Shane expected any different... Eric and Jeff were looking around wildly at the crowd, both unable to believe just how big the incident had been and become. Eric looked at the table and tried to shout, "What the hell you think actually happened?"

Shane could barely make out the general sentence, and Jeff even had to shout, "What?" to get a repeat audible enough to hear. "I dunno, there's too many people saying it happened different ways!"

Shane sighed and looked into his backpack, glad to have a little superior acting to do to take his mind off the fear of his own power. He waved to get the attention of Jeff and Eric before presenting a very simple piece of paper and pen.

Show Spritelog:
S: We can't hear well, so write it out.
E: aight
J: Okay
S: I've heard like ten versions but only a few things are constant between 'em
E: the girl is tabatha and the guy is kent, hes dead
J: Its Tabitha dude, not Tabatha
E: my bad
S: Anyway, he asked her out and went into the bathroom after her where he got stabbed. What happened in the bathroom i\___
J: Shes not in cuffs and out the door so she didnt just up and assault him, so it had to be defence if she did it
E: but everyone thinks he did it when she said no so it mighta been suicide
S: We don't know for sure. And damn, this noise is annoying.
J: No kidding
E: so what happens now
J: I guess we wait until lockdowns over
S: Which will probably take the rest of the day. Body, blood, news... Cleaning up will be hell.
J: Then there's us, i mean listen to this. This aint gonna die down anytime soon.
E: wrong bro
J: Why
E: remember those rumors of people disappearing, like moving away suddenly?
J: Yeah
S: You mean you think they're not just moving away, too?
E: yeah, me and tonsa other people probably think theres more blood than just moving away with those kids leaving
S: So an actual confirmed murder will be big, but it probably won't so much be a "Holy Fuzzy Bunny we're not safe" thing as "Holy Fuzzy Bunny the rumor's real".
J: Damn, this is Fuzzy Bunny up
E: no kiddin
S: Scary thought, that we've got maniacs like that around...
E: i gotta go to the bathroom man, hope they let me out
J: Good luck
S: So let's play assumption. Tabitha gets attacked by Kent. Why her?
J: I dunno, I was never really close to her or knew about her. She and I sat next to each other in like chemistry and we had pe together but aside from that
S: I don't know her, either. Kent's a jock and we don't know her.
J: Heh
S: Kinda morbid to laugh at a dead guy, isn't it?
J: Kinda morbid to call him a jock isnt it
S: Point taken

Shane and Jeff shared a couple of weak chuckles as Eric fought through the crowd of busy kids to try to get out. He eventually managed to get to the doorway and let the adult there know where he needed to go, but was escorted to one out of the way of both Tabitha and Kent before returning. He laughed a little harder at the few jokes made at the end of the memo.

The seat Quinn had taken near the wall was also close to the way he'd entered the cafeteria, so he wouldn't have to walk past all of the rest of the students when he eventually made his way out. Probably because of his position, he heard a random scream come from the direction of the hallway. He started paying attention to his surroundings all of a sudden, immediately wondering what had happened. Did...did that come from the bathroom down the hall, maybe? Thinking that he might've been the only person to have seen the Senior student enter the girls' bathroom, Quinn shifted his weight in his chair, wondering if it was even remotely his place to see what was going on. Luckily, other people had heard the scream as well, and were already heading out into the hall. ...They'll handle it, then. It's none of my business, anyway. Shortly before the second scream came, though, he knew something was actually wrong. A very short time later, a female student who looked older than Quinn but whom he didn't recognize (which meant she was a Junior or Senior, having not been in his grade) was led into the cafeteria by Ms. Hastings. They took a table close to the entrance (which by association was close to Quinn) and talked the matter over such that Quinn was barely able to make out the conversation. He stayed put and tried to pretend he wasn't attempting to eavesdrop. Like he kept telling himself, it was none of his business, but he was always out of the loop on the goings-on at school anyway, since he didn't really hang out with many people (much less anyone who knew school gossip.) Despite all that, he found himself oddly interested to hear the news, regardless, and a little uncomfortable to actually make out the given turn of events. Ms. Hastings left soon after, presumably to put the school on lockdown, while the gray-clad girl was left behind at her table. Quinn wondered how long it would be until people swarmed her for gossip. Maybe longer than usual, since she appeared to be visibly shaken. Something didn't seem right, though. She was probably hiding something.

...W-what? That's a stupid thing to think of. I doubt she killed the guy. Just look at how torn up she is about it; she's got nothing to hide.

Tabitha waited as some of the more 'helpful' people attempted to comfort her. After a while, the school's officer Lt. Smith motions for her to follow him to the office.

Officer: Lt. Smith
6'3" heavy build, buzzed blond hair blue eyes.
Very matter-of-fact disposition. He has been with the school for longer than most of the students can remember. He tends to be either in the school security office or patrolling the halls or around the school at various times.

"I heard what you told Ms. Hastings. I'd like to hear it in your own words though." Smith said sitting down and opening his laptop. Tabitha was still pre-occupied with what she found and missed what he said entirely. "... Miss Schablone... If you could just help explain your side of this."

"Sorry, ... I just had a lot to think about..." Tabitha says with her arms folded nervously. She continues on describing her story the same as she did before. "... and I tried my best to stop him but he's a lot stronger than I am." Smith nodded, the story seemed to check out. According to Ms. Hastings, Kent had been having trouble in school as well among other things.

"Well, if we need anything else.. we'll let you know." Smith said while getting up and opening the door to show her out. "If you want we can arrange a ride home for you."

"We live close, so I usually walk. The fresh air might help anyway." Tabitha said and turned down the hall to exit past the cafeteria (opposite end of the bathrooms since it would be blocked off). As she walked from the office there was an announcement of classes being called off the rest of the day. On the way out she bumped into Shane and Quinn who were (by coincidence ;D) near each other exiting the cafeteria. At about the same time one of Tabitha's 'friends' was calling for her from the further back exit.
"... Just play along you two... please... the last thing I want is her insincere help right now." Tabitha whispered to both of them with a hand on each of their shoulders.

"Heya, Tabitha we were thinking of going to Papa Leo's (local pizza shop) as a treat for you if it cheers you up." Stephanie (A fairly popular brown haired girl on the volleyball team from a rich family, known to be both manipulative and fairly obnoxious) said with a pack of the popular kids in tow.

"I would.. but they already asked to walk me home. I think I've had enough excitement for today, sorry." Tabitha nudged both of them to go on.. As soon as they got out of earshot of the other kids waiting for rides/buses she said to both Quinn and Shane. "Sorry about that.. I do not even know if you live out this way, but I can repay you when we get to my place. I imagine you already know who I am, but I ... have little clue about either of you. I know I have you in one class .. at least I think so." She finished pointing at Shane.

The road to Tabitha's place is a fairly nice gated area. Fancy cast-iron street lamps and nice sidewalks and houses with generously sized yards. She lives at 42 N. Franklin St. a red-bricked house with limestone corners on the windows and edges. "Mine is just a bit further... sorry again for dragging you all this way. I just needed to get away and you were there.. when we get home you should stay a bit. The least I could do."

"Hm?" Shane looked up as he saw Officer Smith walking by, toward Tabitha. Of the adults in the school, Smith seemed the most decent, though Shane was biased due to having needed to be saved from a corner of guys who didn't particularly care for his lack of caring attitude. Not apologizing for someone else ramming into you apparently earned a fight incoming, which in turn earned Smith appearing and actually getting the punk of Shane's case for good. If he was here to lock up Tabitha, it would finally be the one thing to add Shane's direct interest in the case.

Instead of that, though, he sat down and asked her a question or two, and she talked. Shane shook his head at how many ears tried to settle in and listen, and Smith got up to walk away. Shane grabbed his backpack and tried to intercept him to ask about her. The crowd wound up pushing him closer to Tabitha, however, since everyone else started to flock him once whispers spread quicker than footsteps.

By the time he finally got his sense of direction back from being pushed around, he found his shoulder being grasped by Tabitha's hand. As he recognized her face, he caught wind of her whispers. 'Play along... her...?' "Hey, Tabitha, we were thinking of going to Papa Leo's..." assailed Shane's ears. Ugh. The princess. "...if it cheers you up."

'Play along and walk her home? Alright.' "Screw you. If people want help, they ask for it." Knowing his statement to be a fallacy as it left his mouth, he turned to the doorway and opened it, holding it for Tabitha. He was a little surprised to see Quinn coming, too, but it made sense; Shane alone wouldn't seem like a proper escort. The three eventually made it out of earshot, allowing Tabitha apologize and try to explain, as well as ask about Shane and Quinn. Shane was curious when she claimed to see him. "I had a Tabitha in a couple classes, but never really paid attention to who. Jeff said he saw you a lot in P.E. and sat next to you in Chemistry, though. Anyway, I'm Shane. Drummer, artist, story writer... Never could get into much else they tried to teach, except maybe designing websites." Having laid the groundwork for where she may have seen him outside the core classes, Shane tried to think of how well he could summarize himself. "I've distrusted people for years, so I'm probably gonna come off colder than I wanna be. Even still, it's getting better." The entire time he spoke, his eyes were on the road in front of him, as opposed to looking in Quinn's or Tabitha's eyes. "People out here look pretty well taken care of..."

OOC: Kik, Smith was in his office, not the cafeteria. Doesn't really change things though.

Also, just FYI, pretty much the only time I'm able to post on weekdays is about 6-11 PM (just in case you were wondering why I'm not able to get at these very quickly.)

~~~
It wasn't much longer before Lieutenant Smith appeared and escorted the girl to his office, and following that, an announcement came over the public address system that classes were cancelled for the day. Nice...now I can actually go home and get some rest, Quinn thought, followed by a pang of guilt upon realizing what it had actually cost to have classes called off. As he got up and prepared to leave the cafeteria, he felt a hand on his shoulder, and turned his head to see the girl from earlier standing there. He was able to hear her plea to follow along over the din of the cafeteria somehow. While he didn't normally mind playing along with something, this wasn't really a suitable event. A student was dead, with this girl was the only witness, and now she picked a couple of random people to accompany her home? Quinn recognized the other girl--one of those spoiled popular upperclassmen that always got her way somehow; Stephanie, he thought her name was. Quinn didn't doubt that Tabitha wanted to avoid her (most sane people probably would.)
And yet, over the dull roar or the cafeteria, he felt like he just wanted to get out of this place; to go somewhere relatively secluded. This wasn't anywhere he wanted to be, so Quinn played along after all and followed the other two out of the school and down the street.
After Tabitha and Shane had said their introductions, Quinn cut in, answering her initial question. "I usually take the bus home, but I really don't mind walking, so don't worry about me. I, uh, only know your name because I overheard it in the cafeteria earlier. I'm Quinn, by the way." He didn't recall ever having any classes with her; while most students in a grade had classes together, there were some like foreign languages where any grade could take it, or certain science classes which for the most part could be taken in any order. Shane looked a little more familiar, but he couldn't tell why.
As they approached Tabitha's house, Quinn started wondering again what the heck he was doing here. It wasn't that he didn't want to be, but rather in that it was something new, and he hated those awkward feelings when he didn't know what to do. They're both older than I am and neither of them even know me. I barely hang out with the guys in my grade as it is. His headache was finally subsiding, though, and suddenly excusing himself to go home would have looked worse than anything else, so he decided to stick it out. Who knows; maybe things won't turn out so bad. She only came to us because she needed our help to escape Stephanie, and I'm not going to turn down someone in need, anyway.
(eh any post is a good one far as I'm concerned so I don't mind posts late in the day either)
"Granted, I wish you had not said a thing back to her. I am glad to be away from people." Tabitha said sighing in relief "I practically have to pretend to be a completely different person with them... I mean .. somebody died I even knew him well. And all she wanted is to have me around to make them look like 'the ones who helped me'. Any other day, and you could hardly get the time from her.. she is so fake.." She finished at the same time remembering the fact part of hey skin just popped open revealing the strange mess of unnatural insides. but then... am I even real... I guess I should be sure before jumping to conclusions. She had been thinking a while completely passing her house. Realizing this she turned around and said "Oh actually, this one. Sorry."
She leads them into the house the main room is well furnished with hardwood floors and a staircase leading up to the right to the upper rooms. She walks up to her room which has a light purple carpeting, well organized. The far end has a decent sized tv and a set of chairs. "Take what you want from the fridge. It is the least I can do since you saved me from being forced to parade myself to those people.... to be honest I'm sick of it. It never gives me any time to think." She says grabbing up a drink from the fridge and sitting. The inside of the fridge having a few leftovers from eating out in to-go boxes in one section and then drinks near the top. "Though maybe I should not think about it... I mean.. Kent is dead. What do you suppose even happens when we die... would it even be the same for me.."
Quinn wondered how Tabitha was actually faring with everything she'd seen over the past hour or so. Apparently worse than he'd thought, since she walked right by her house without even noticing it.
Her house was rather impressive, actually. Quinn's house wasn't bad by any standards, and in fact in was pretty nice in and of itself, but having always grown up in a house with one floor, he'd always considered homes with more than one floor to be something special, perhaps. Although I bet it's a pain to do laundry, having to carry things up and down the stairs. Even her room was nice, organized, and spacious, with like a TV and chairs and mini-fridge and whatnot. Okay, you win; I don't have a TV or a fridge. Tabitha offered them something from the fridge, and since she took a drink, Quinn decided to follow suit and grab a cola as well, saying "Thank you" in a low voice.
She sat down and started talking about death right out of the blue. Well, perhaps not so much out of the blue seeing as what had just happened previously, but still, it was obvious it had probably been on her mind for a while now. Quick, say something smart and ease the tension in the room. "I...try not to think about it too much, personally. I don't know what happens when we die, and frankly there's not really any way of finding that out. Dwelling on mortality for too long can only get you down; I've seen it happen to others. If I have a heart attack or die in a plane crash or something it's not like I'll have known beforehand...or have been able to do anything about it."
Yeah, I think I probably blew that.
...Wait, what? "Same for me" how?
Shane peeked in the fridge and took out a simple bottle of water. He was kind of picky about anything else he drank, and Tabitha didn't have it. "Burn My Dread" was (coincidentally) playing in his ears, albeit quietly, so he didn't hear the note about death being the same for her. He did catch everything else. "It's not worth thinking about, I think. If you die to find out, you've wasted your life, and there's no point worrying about it when you can't control it. If you want to pick an afterlife that suits you, that's what religions are for. You pray, you hope, you try to live a life your God would call worthy of Heaven or Nirvana, or whatever, and that's that. I say just try not to do anything stupid or life threatening."
Shane started sipping from his bottle, contemplating for the first time in a while about what he thought death would mean for someone. No more life, no second chances, an eternity of physically molding with the earth... If the consciousness goes anywhere, evolves into whatever the body forms into, or somehow becomes the nutrients that compose sperm / eggs and create another life, Shane didn't know. Nor did he particularly care to think about, unless he was thinking of it in terms of a story relying on those variables. For now, Shane was tapping the song's drumline out onto his kneecaps and into the bottle.
That sort of reminded him, from a vague train of thought. Shane looked into his backpack and pulled out a sketchbook, setting it onto the nearest flat surface to flip it open and seek his personal recreation to one specific movie scene he felt he should draw. Pirates 3, with the Black Pearl sailing over the water, black sky and starts reflecting perfectly off the ocean. Shane was drawing it from a different angle, with no specific focus on the ship or the crew, just more trying to make a black ocean and sky with a few waves trailing behind it. Shane reached in for a pen and started working on the glimmer of the waves reflection, since the highlighting of it needed a bit more contrast.
"Um... yea. I guess so." Tabitha responded. She noticed a kind of odd expression from Quinn. "Um well not that I want to die. I just keep thinking like what if he attacked me instead of ... well.. anyway." She thought it bothered them and regardless made her more uncomfortable by the minute. Instead of pressing more she just turned on the TV to whatever was on. "I wish I could draw.. well anything creative at least. I can draw what I see but, not much else."
The TV comes on to a burning house with a shaking camera recording "...are at the scene of what appears to be a fire at 100 North Jefferson street.. the blaze has yet to be controlled and it is believed there are people still trapped inside..."
"This is live? 100 Jefferson,... within a few blocks of here." Tabitha remarked fixated on the TV. The fire raged on for a short time, when the screen flashed white for a split second, then the camera barely coming back into focus showing the house completely frozen solid before the TV signal goes dead entirely. "... Did that just happen? or am I hallucinating."
Not long later did flashing lights show up in Tabitha's room window blocking off roads within eyesight of the area. The cars seemed to be official police cars setting up roadblocks.
Shane was right; he did come off kind of cold by just seeming to ignore everything and lapse off into some sort of drawing mode. Though...he appeared to have a nice talent. Quinn responded to what Tabitha had said; "I can't even draw what I see, so you're ahead of me there, heh. I'm pretty terrible at it, but I also wish I could draw...it would be so cool to make anything you could think of come to life on paper."
Tabitha turned on the TV and they were immediately fixated by the scene of the blazing house fire, until the screen went dark. "Wha--did we lose power? Or...just cable?" He also saw the police cars appearing, with lights flashing wildly. They were blocking off the roads, and Quinn immediately wondered if it had something to do with any of them. Jeez, a guy had taken his own life today, and now things didn't seem to be taking any turns for the better. He glanced at Tabitha, the words "What...did you do?" guiltfully hanging in his mind. The police were showing up around her house, after all. But she seemed as surprised as them to see the police there, so he merely waited to see what the others did. He'd certainly done nothing wrong, he knew that much, so surely nothing bad was going to happen.
"The signal cut out." Tabitha says quickly changing the channel to some cable stations running fine and then back to the local station which was still blacked out. "One minute they were covering this fire. You saw that light on the screen right? One second the fire was raging, then after the flash I saw it for a split second. Frozen solid in ice. Then the signal cut out completely.. As soon as that happened, those roadblocks went up.. " She looked out the window for the plume of smoke where it hung in the sky floating away with a nearly clean stopping point.
"There see? The smoke just stops instantly, all the fire trucks in the state could not do that.. What ever happened, we can not even get close enough to actually see it." She says still looking out the window.
OOC: I think I took the TV's "white flash and frozen solid" to mean what a lot of TV's do when the power goes out (which is a bright flash followed by a still frame picture instead of moving video), not actually frozen, heh. Whoops; that makes a lot more sense. Still works though I guess.
BIC:
She was right; it was just the signal for that channel. The power was still active because the lights were still on in the room, and when Tabitha flipped channels the TV continued to work fine. Maybe Quinn was just being jumpy; and on second glance, the police cars, while still close to Tabitha's house, were aimed in the opposite direction, away from them and down the street, towards the smoke plume.
"I thought it was a trick of the eyes with the TV signal going out. I saw the light, but thought maybe the color had just faded the picture's tint when it came back?" Quinn followed her gaze to where the smoke plume abruptly stopped. "Yeah, fires don't just...stop. And why would you want to see it? We'd probably just get in the way of all the emergency crews trying to do their jobs."
He thought for a moment about everything they'd just said. "Although...if the house was really frozen and encased in ice like you said...there would be a whole lot of water when it melted, wouldn't there?" No sooner were the words out of his mouth that Quinn realized any fire trucks on the scene would have put out a ton of water, too, which made his observation relatively moot.
