OOC: I hope you're not seriously expecting to shoot a crossbow bolt that fizzle's someone spell like a Counter in Magic The Gathering. The reason Tory's skull had been able to draw on the energy anyone used to try to manipulate the water was because Tory himself was still there to ensure the water couldn't become a weapon. Are you a white or black mage capable of keeping your 'bolt' in constant effect? No. And red deals with fire, you're not going to burn through someone's magic with magic like it's a clash of mana. The most a magic destroying bolt can do is disrupt something as thick as the wound or mark it makes.

BIC...

Paige shook her head and resumed letting the water dance on her palm. "What I need most is time to think. For years, I haven't had time alone. I want to know what that feels like, to just have myself..." 'I may miss m'lord, but there is some pleasure to being away from him after so long.'

OOC: I was thinking more along the lines of penetrating any sort of shielding spell. However, the idea of a blue conterspell effect is interesting...

OOC: Tahu, I don't know what part of there are no counters or direct anti-magic spells or anything you're not getting, but yeah...there are no counters or anti-magic spells. The CLOSEST thing is White manipulating other magic. The reason I've left magic so open-ended is so people can use their imagination (like me with the air-stairs)...but this IS NOT anything like D&D or Magic the Gathering, or the Forgotten Realms...it is somewhat unique in its own right, it is MOST like Avatar: The Last Airbender. You cannot counter or dissipate a spell, only a White Wizard can manipulate it to his own will, and even then, that's pretty much the top tier ability for White color.

Also, I've talked with kikori at length about our world and the magic system for obvious reasons...and if/when he says something that is moderative, or somewhat moderative...follow what he says.

Adam handed a letter to the woman he was talking to. "If you give this to the next of my caravans, they will certainly take you along. I will join you there when we deal with dusk... "

"You mentioned before.. a material you were working on. If you think it will help channel energy better and maybe insulate my workings better than this bulk. I say we go for it and try. It may give me the edge I need." Adam said. She nods and leads him to the forge she had set up for research. He looked at a sample of the black material and loaded it in a vice. "Cover your ears, and get behind something" He said assembling his hammer then wailing on it at full force. Flipping open his facemask and leaning the hammer against a bench, he picks up the cracked vice off the floor. "Let us get started then. We have until tomorrow."

Jarrett left the library, as nothing seemed interesting within the first ten or so bookshelves. He wandered around town, looking for shops worthwhile to look at. As he rounded a corner, he saw a sign that caught his eye. It was for an archery shop! "Awesome! I've never seen this place before, though." Jarrett thought, "This is a huge place. Now, let's see what's inside. As he walked in, he was hit with a torrent of sounds. Machines creating new weapons, people talking, and what sounded like cries of pain. "Wow, this place is busier than I thought..." he muttered to himself. He walked around, looking at the wares. There were longbows for sniping targets far away, short bows for power. Poison bottles for your ammo. The store had practically everything! He walked towards what seemed to be the front desk, wondering what he should ask for. Finally, he decided.
"Hello," he said, "I was wondering if you have any ways to test some of this equipment. You have so much stuff, most of which I've never even seen nor heard of."
"Eh, we don't have a range of any sort, but we do have an arena. You fight using what weapons from our store appeal to you, and then go do battle with them. No poison or serious maiming, however. We have team matches and single matches. Are you interested?"
Jarrett pondered this for a moment. "I'm game. A single match, please." As he was pulling out his coin pouch from his pack, he asked what the entry fee was. Apparently, there was none. This just keeps getting better and better. Jarrett thought, grinning. "Alright," he said, "When do I start?"
"Now." replied the clerk, and he led Jarrett through a doorway.

OOC: Yeah, we're all off doing our own thing.

OOC: Nice way to create an interesting situation within the RP, Riptide. ;)

BIC: Caston shrugged. He hoped that Paige knew he was there for her, whether she needed or wanted him or not.

"I'm headed to the library...and I could use some insight if you have any. What's the key to using more than one color? I understand so little. I understand I'm on the very verge of being able to use Red, but...it still feels just out of reach. The Headmaster said there might be some very old literature in the library that could help, and there's no doubt a lot of material there you might be interested in." He started towards the library, then stopped and turned back to Paige.

"How did you and your master get so proficient at magic with no formal training? It's a skill that needs to be finely honed, I would think that there was no way you could get so great at it without proper training."

---

Slanor grinned slyly as Delon tried to ready himself. There was no way he could be ready for anything that was about to happen.

The Dark Wizard seized the rogue's mind and froze every one of his muscles. He then flashed the most brutal images he could conjure through the thieve's mind. Images of him and his party being slaughtered by Dusk; torn apart by his unique weapon and rended by his multi-colored magical onslaught. Images of Delon falling into poverty. Images of him being caught for stealing and tortured in a deep dungeon where his screams would never be heard. He couldn't escape.

Slanor maintained the spells and spoke, his voice barely audible.

"Before I bestow any of these powers unto you, you must understand their power and significance. You can control another person's mind, you can prey on their very worst fears. It is the color that comes with the most need for responsibility. This is why I am the only senior Black wizard here, and hardly anyone else is allowed to even attempt to use the color." He severed the spell.

"By choosing to be a master of Black Magic, I choose to toe the line between sanity and utter madness. Can you?"

Geez, I'm gone fore like a month, and this place dies? Sounds like you actually need me.

Also, that OOC bit made me a bit happy, Lander. If you were serious, however. IMO, I could've made it wayyyy better if I had my laptop.

OOC: On the topic of anti-magic...going from Avatar, I remember something along the line of pressure points being used to disrupt ki flow or whatever to prevent bending. Would it be reasonable that a martial art or fighting style be based around using pressure points to disrupt one's ability to use magic? If so, mages at the Institute would have the ability to learn about said pressure points to defend against that style, so they would know at least the general location of those points...not quite sure how far I'd be going with this, but is it something that sounds plausible?

Yep. I've been waiting for responses this entire time, since my last post put action on the shoulders of kikori and discrim...

I was serious, riptide...that's what rp'ing is all about, especially at intervals like this. Go about by yourself and create a situation or develop your character further.

Tahu: As strange as it sounds, there is no Ki, chi, mana, or anything of the sort. Magic in this world is MENTAL. Think telekinesis, with the elements. Avatar was just the best way I could think to describe it, but it IS NOT the same thing.

OOC: Hm... I'm not sure how we're supposed to pull this off, then. If Dusk controlled one or two colors, that would be a simple enough matter to counter, but as a mage who's highly proficient with all five, he's got no uncovered weak points along the color wheel. Right now, I'm leaning towards something more practical than inventive (read: stupidly cheap), such as shooting him with a bolt of lightning (which, as http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/w ... a00189.htm claims, reaches speeds of 60,000 miles per second). We can't overpower him, and, if he ever runs out of ideas, he's as good with any of the colors as any member of our party, so he'll just counter whatever we throw at him.

OOC: Or you could just trust me not to have instant death of the entire party in mind. Were this a Battlefield scenario, sure, but there is a story behind this that needs to unfold first.

BIC...

"The story is still his to tell. However. He did not have the luxury of formality. He had necessity, times and times again where he and I would die if not for his will to bend the elements so we may stay alive. How he is able to do so with all colors is unfortunate... and the reason he wants, and needs, to die." Paige stood up and followed Caston, not intending to read but at least keep his head from the clouds. After all, recognizing the ability to feel the destructive, direct forcefulness of Red does not equate to being able to separate one's Blue nature of calm and calculated approaches.

OOC: Yes, there's a story. Tahu and Mabel, having experienced Dusk's power first-hand, would feel a lot safer extracting the story from Paige after killing Dusk then trying to get it from Dusk directly.

Come on, guys. Don't let the RP die. D:

BIC: Jarrett walked out of the arena/store with a deadly new arsenal of weapons, some new cuts and bruises, and a full money pouch. He wandered off to the Insitute to show off his new stuff to everyone, especially Caston.

OOC: I haven't decided on the new weapons, I think 2 new styles of darts and a bow. And maybe a poison Delon and I can share.

OOC: Ok, I've got an idea to run past you guys: elementally charged crossbow bolts. They have a small amount of mana of one color in them, and they allow the mage firing them to use that mana for a spell of that color when fired, independent of the mage's own color. For example, a green bolt could trail a vine, making it a grapnel, while a red bolt could explode into a fireball upon impact, a black bolt could corrupt/decay whatever it hits, a white bolt could emit a flash of blinding light, or other such effects. Each bolt would be a one-use item.
Also, would a cloth cloak imbued with multiple dyes and green mana be able to blend into its surroundings (assuming they're natural)? Could bandages be imbued with white mana to make them heal wounds faster? What about a mix of red and white mana inside a small glass orb, effectively working as a flashbang? And can red mana create plasma?

It's a good idea, but I already ran something of the sort past Lander.

I'd like something of the sort, though. (Also, while we're waiting for Discrim to post, can we just talk about abilities and develop new things to do?)

That sounds a bit more feasible. The key word there was "one use". If you can find some way to get hollow, airtight bolts, there's no reason they couldn't act as a jar or staff...where power/spells live.
